tsurrie's 2020 glog

So I decided to soak seeds this time, finally, and I hope it will increase the germination rate, since last year rate was not so good anymore.
Hope it helps just a bit....

Very clever shelter for the tomatoes, Uros.
I actually hate using stretch foil, since it's soon to be waste (freaking plastic), but it's easy and efficient to protect the plants for the first two weeks. Then I remove it. The upper roof PVC is usable for about 5 years or more. I think this is the fifth year for this one. It's a good protection for tomatoes.
I always use ash to keep the critters away. I think it helps a bit.

Baked again yesterday evening. Two smaller loafes with a mix of spelt wholegrain, dark wheat and rye flour.

Next time I need to make both a little smaller or maybe just one larger....

...because the upper one (left) in the oven was a little overdone

the lower one was just right

This is the one more done, but it's just the crust.

Sorry for the no-pepper post, but I need to keep track... will take a pic of the peppers in pots today if I don't forget.

Ok, now peppers as promised.

These are the pots at home.

Also gave six pots to my relatives.
They all look great, Uros! They will love
a good dose of Summer Sun!

 May your pepper plants turn out
                  as well as your breads!

Thanks man. If it wouldn't turn out good, then the drive would go away. Now I have to try it again.

Thank you Paul. Now we have one rainy week so hoping for some more sun soon.
Here's to big and healthy pepper plants

Can we have a bread glog?
I guess there are already a lot of them, with professionals doing the baking.
But technically that would be classic blog.
;)

It's time for an update after a long month. Things are as usual, but the weather finally got better. Lot's of sun (also a few storms) and warm nights, exactly what the plants needed. So they are slowly progressing...

Peppers on the garden are not nearly as big and I kinda lost hope for them.
Some pics of other veggies from the garden coming up....

The old garden was always better for growing tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkins. So that's what we always put there.

Cucumbers #1 (these are large varieties for eating raw and in salads)
cucumbersleft28062020.jpg

Cucumbers #2 (the pickling ones)
cucumbersright28062020.jpg

I think this one is butternut
pumpkins28062020.jpg

zucchinis
zucchini28062020.jpg

I need to tie them tomatoes again, they're getting wild
tomatoes28062020.jpg

That's all from the garden.

Also tried baking once every week and yesterday I mixed white wheat flour sourdough (I mainly use dark/black/wholegrain flours), and this is what I baked today.
It's very good, soft with big holes, but I prefer the flavors I get if I mix in some darker flours and spelt/rye.

A piece was already missing there, was eating it while taking picture ;)

After a while, it's time for a little update. Cucumbers are closing the season, but we have enough pickled already. Tomatoes are just beginning to rapidly ripen, so we'll have a lot of work with the tomato sauces and enough salads from now on :) I'll take  a pic someday.

As for the chilis, they are starting to ripen and we pickled some of them Annums already.

These got pickled just the other day...

I also picked some of the first habaneros today. The first mini ones.

We also went fishing yesterday... it was fun.

We caught 17 nice trouts....

We still brew from time to time, and it's really delicious beer...
This one is Maris Otter pale ale with magnum and cascade hops....

Thanks for stopping by and take care folks.

Those jalapeños have nice and uniform shapes. Hybrid or open pollinated cultivar?
Those are from the nursery. So I'd guess they are hybrid. I always get jalapenos from nursery because I had bad luck raising them from seeds. But I like them pickled or just cut and sprinkled on a pizza or in sandwich.

Your grow turned out great, Uros! Lots
of nice pods and more to come. Good
work, my friend! Sorry the in-ground plants
aren’t performing up to your expectations.

had a nice little harvest during this weekend

We also got a chance to taste one homegrown watermelon - small but juicy and delicious

and I'm still making sourdough bread - and I have some good and bad luck with experimenting, but I guess I figured it out
sourdougha06102020.jpg

tried a bunch with whiter flour, but it comes out best with darker ones and with some rye or spelt

Hey, Uros, you covered just about all the bases with post #75!

Kudos on a great season’s end. Think you will be able to pull
some more of those pods?

Thank you Paul.

It's not the end yet, I hope :)
Lot's of pods still on the plants and they are maturing quickly. I am a bit worried about the weather though, temperatures dropped today to 3°C. I just hope they are going to be ok so I can let them outside for a few days more.
One large harvest coming and then I'm all set for this season.

Will dehydrate some and freeze some for sauces, and of course eat as much as I can :)
Those red habaneros sure are tasty.

We are just about in the same place here,
although not as cold. The dampness here
causes lots of pod splitting and failure to
reach 100% ripeness.

Can't wait to see the last harvest results.
