WalkGood 2013, 2014 and Beyond

This is my first Glog so excuse what ever mess I may create, lol. Took way to many pictures today (31), so Ill post the first 9 and add more in subsiquent posts but didn't think it a good idea to start out doube or triple posting just for additional pics. I will also be updating the thread over time to show growth, pods and such ... but the first few pics of are of the young ones. While Ive been growing my favorite peppers for around 17 years (guess, lol), I always limited myself to 3 varieties or less. Jamaican peppers/Hab, Jalapeño and Cayenne. When things got too tuff Id milk them till they died off and stop growing for a while and start fresh. Most years I only grew the Jamaicans which are my favorite for cooking, home made sauce and the occasional powder to rub meats with or put into certain recipes.

Current inventory:
 • 5 Jalapeño
 • 1 Cayenne
 • 1 Serrano
 • 7 Datil
 • 15 Jamaican Habs (3 large around 3 years old and 12 less than year old)
 • 12 more to be determined
The young ones below are not that old with the oldest being the JA Habs which are around 3 years old now. I happen to find THP site while looking for advice/knowledge to cure one of my Jalapeños, thanks for all the good info guys/girls! In 2012 I added Datil, Thai hot, Cayenne, Jalapeño and Serrano to the mix, totaling around 41 plants now. Hats off \o_ to those of you who grow many more, dont know how you find the time and patients when things go off. That said, Ive done my fair share of battling aphids, nematodes, snails and white fly to no end over the last 3 years. Fortunately I believe to have things under control for now so Ive decided to add 12 new peppers to the mix from the listed seeds shown below.

Ill select 12 to start near end of December or first week in January from the seeds below and give credit once I get some new ones going :)

Need to start clearing our yard to grow more & more & more peppers ;) (*WG rollseyes*)

Top left to right: two Thai Hot and one Cayenne. Bottom row all Datil. BTW I don't grow everything in clay pots, just happen to get a good deal on a bunch in yard sale for a few bucks.

Huge live Oak in background, there's 5 of them in front yard so the shades hard to avoid in first few hours of sun rise.

8 Jamaican Habs in ground and cherry tomatoe in the pot, I need to find a good place to plant the tomatoe soon.

Top left Serrano and more Datil, I'm probably going to gift a few Datils for xmass and some of the other peppers

Lourens that's funny ... but I'm right there with ya. Evertime I see the food stuff here I run off to eat, lucky for me I'm very active or I'd be one fat Cuban, lol. Love how your peppers are coming, wish I was over there for the first day of harvest, man that's going to be killer :)

Oh just for you, I won't shoot lunch today, spiny lobster & sofrito starter broiled to perfection with some curry rice and plantain chips (home made today) ... gotta run, just made myself hungry ;)

Edit: after lunch I'm running out to buy a lotto ticket and if I win, I'll be there on harvest day, hehe

w00t SB MoA in 5 days \o/ I think a second one is coming but I don’t want to touch them and keeping the egg case closed is a good thing. Steve dem seeds of yours rock steady fresh mon!!!

Great work Ramon! 5 days?! It must be all the Bob Marley and the wailers serenating your sancuary! Honestly what I would do after they have germinated, would be to transplant the seedlings individually into 5 inch pots to get a good root structure going. But, looks like you need not any tips mon!

Great work Ramon! 5 days?! ...
Thanks steve but its all in da seed you have mon! All I did was to put it into good soil & egg shell after one night of soaking. I think I have to check on this one tomorrow cause it looks sideways or upside down to me after I misted with water, probably too much. I believe this one was really near the top of the soil and that's how it's visible, that could be the ticket as I believe when dem too deep they rot :/ Oh BTW these have been on the window sill till today, I took your advice and put the egg carton out for sunning today, that probably helped too :) Thanks mon!

lol, I am counting on it! Going to need as much help as I can get... there are quite a few chillies to pick! I may just have to do a lotto too so I can come and taste some ofyour awesome food!

Ramon, no words, but just wow! Making me miss SW Fl. Have a friend who lives in Punta Gorda, be talking last Feb. about picking first beafsteak tomato. Grrr. (Envy.) So what's the Cuban slang equivalent of "de puta madre"? Whatever it is, this Glog is it! And sofrito cooks making me miss Dominican Republic: sazon. (I was not made to live in a climate where it's 36 F. this morning.) Thank you, Annie.

I'd say. Awesome job man. That thing will be a beast for sure. It def wants to grow mon. Its soo cute!
Thank you Jamison, I can’t wait to see your SB MoA’s, I’m sure you’ll kick some serious Azz with them brethren ^_^ but hey you have a serious grow going yourself and it's killa IMHO!
Nice! Can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, mon. Irie! ;)
Brent you are so witty, that’s seriously funny stuff and goes well in here with the omlet I posted here and the way I roll with my egg seed starters. While its probably not the best method I continue with it in honor of my Abuelo. Thanks for popping in often and commenting on mi glog ^_^ BTW I'm lov'in your grow too!

Lourens, you think I was kidding, no no no ... here’s the ticket and see the date … sorry but I had to block out the numbers cause dem numbers will win ;) Unfortunately probably after I’m dead & buried as this time I lost :/ ... that said, if you win you are always welcome at Casa de WalkGood ^_^

I have to say that the food shots make me seriously hungry! Like it :)
Thanks Moo, your glog is great too and I enjoy reading and seeing your pictures!!!
Ramon, no words, but just wow! Making me miss SW Fl.
First off thank you for visiting and the "wow" comment, seriously makes my day :) My intent isn't to piss you off but as I’ve told Greg, there’s plenty of land still available :D and I love living in a tropical belt ^_^

Killer place there, I’ve caught a few tarpon in that area and lived in Tampa Bay for 4 years. Actually it’s probably noted for the best Tarpon fishing in the USA, next to one of my secrete spots :D

No comment on “de puta madre,” seriously dirty among Cubans, lol … but we do use it. I love the DR, spent some good times there while I was living in JA and working around the Caribbean, life’s short and if you have an in there I’d be all over it. I really wanted to move there next but didn’t get a promotion to work there after I was done in JA :/ BTW You have a great start going, I will be following it and I've already learned something in your glog; ice trays work for multiple soaking and turkey baster idea seems great and I’ll give it a try next soaking so I don’t have to fish with spoon, lol.

Updates:
I did note that a second SB MoA has broken thru the shell, only 4 to go and I’ll have a 100% germination rate on them :)

I’ve transplanted the babies that have leaves on them; Yellow Bonnet Jamaican, White Bhut Jolokia, Moruga Red and Butch T. The SB MoA's are still in the eggs, not much difference from yesterdays picture other than you can see it growing, no leaves yet.

lol... oh man... I'll supply free rum and coke in coconuts? Ok its only Havana 7 year old at best... although the Mauritian Rum is not that bad either...

lol... oh man... I'll supply free rum and coke in coconuts?
I’ve never tried rum & coke in a coconut, normally if I’m going the Coca-Cola mixer route I’ll use a tumbler with rocks. I honestly prefer rum in fresh coconut water served in the nut with its meat still in. BTW I really don’t like bottle coconut water, it's nothing like da real ting. Good Añejo served neat is just as good but if it's not good rum then a mix is required.

Ok its only Havana 7 year old at best... although the Mauritian Rum is not that bad either...
Nothing wrong with that, I’d be all over it ^_^ When I can’t find anything better or the inlaws haven’t brought up a good rum stash from South America, Bacardi 8 is nice but I don’t like it neat or white Bacardi & coke is ok.

I must have been running with blinders on for many years as my two favorite rums were 15 year old Ron Santa Teresa and Appleton Blue (Appleton Estate 21 year old). I also like their "V" series like the VX and others which are a good bang for da buck. A few years back my bro gave me a bottle of Ron Diplomático, one of the best tasting rums I’ve had in years, very smooth and can be served at room temp neat. Dam stuff taste so good, bet you can't just have one ;) If you are a rum drinker and can get your hands on a bottle I highly recommend it, it blows away any rum its price range and many above its price range. Comes in a nice tube package like the Santa Teresa and it looks like this below.

Edit: Forgot to mention, 2 more SB MoA's popped today and now I'm at 50% germ with Steve954 seeds \o/

congrats on the new sprouts. Things are picking up in your neck of the woods.
Thank you Pia ^_^ Still I think all of us here want moooore to pop, dem so cute when they’re small ... regardless I'm happy with what I have ;)

Coming up left and right brudda!
Thanks Jamison! Now 3 more to go and hit 100% on da SB MoA's. Then hopefully some leaves and next what ... we'll want pods FTW!

I had to come back since everyone was talking about your food pics. all I can say is. Great now I have to go eat fooodddddd
lol, sounds like me seeing everyone’s food pictures and their recipes, there’s so many great foods here its amazing how hungry one gets :D On that note what follows is for you ... ... ...

Big harvest tonight of Florida Wild Everglades Tomato, lol. My FWE mato's are small still so they only pump out 3 or 4 at a shot, can't wait for dem vines to wrap around da house, these suckers are very tasty!

So what to do with such an ignoramus harvest? A little pork, rice, sofrito starter, cheese, salad and home made hot sauce ...

Thanks Pia & back at ya!

As I posted in STEVE954 glog yesterday here, I also started getting hit by broad mites which I promptly sprayed with soapy water. I also checked with a few other growers in my area and they claim all is well with their grows, hope it's not like white fly as they're a fact of life now in South FL akin to an plague :( ... Checking plants this morning I don’t believe I got them all or the damage has spread but I believe controlable ... only hope I can eradicate dem! For the first time ever I’m considering alternatives before this issue gets worse. One more day of soapy water and I might try out Bonide which Jamison recommended to Steve here ... Calling all growers, please any thoughts are welcome and thanks in advance ^_^

Off to de garden, BBL
