Wild in Las Vegas 2014 (Hardening off and flowers!!)

So now it's time to make another attempt and hope for a better year.

I didn't want to make a glog this year... but I see many already started. That motivates me to make a glog.

2013 was a year for learning and making mistakes and mostly experiments. Needless to say I found and learned a lot and I know this year is gonna rock!

So let's get started with some pics, and I'll update with th list later today and I'll be visiting glogs in a short while ;) and here's to 2014!!!

These guys are looking great! Your glog is always a pleasure. Thanks!
Hold up! Hold up! Lmao.

Thank you all for the generous bumps! :D I see where this is going  .

Ok just a few more pics I took today.

Bhut orange Copenhagen. (Chiliriot)

CGN 24332, now this one is short and stumpy but growing nice. Any thoughts on the growth habit?

Here's how my LED area looks like. Plain and simple, recycle people LOL.

Other part on the aerogarden, might fire up #3 if I get the CFL adapters.

And last but not least. Yesterday while running some errands I flew by the hydro store which was having a 21% off whole purchase so I got me some rapid rooters and some 5.5 inch pots. I must sow a lil bit more :D. I need to sow the lancey and some of the praetermissum that didn't germinate along with some annum wilds ;).

It's hard to take pics of group shots since it's really hard to see the tiny plants all clustered. I personally like close ups when they're small and more group shots when they get bigger, but if anyone wants to see a specific plant or whatever just ask ;).

Hope everyone is having an excellent week  .

-Walt

Looking great! I want to see each plant individually with a ruler for scale tonight before you hit the sack...get to snappin!!!

Dang, I just got lucky LOL. I work night shift, yeahhhsss!!
J/k, it's gonna be a pain :D.

-Walt

Your not getting off this easy Walt, you know how we like here up close n personal with the capsicums...

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes porn up close and personal ;).

Holy cow!!!

I just had to put this up here! Chiliheads rock!

I just got back from the mail and I received this super awesome package of wilds from Finland! Thanks to a good friend from Facebook.

-CAP 500 - C. Eximium
-CAP 1491 - C. Eximium
-CAP 1530 - C. Cardenasii (Eximium actually)
-PI 260504
-PI 593491 (tepin)
-PI 659104
-Tepin Tarahumara.

Gotta hurry up and sow, sow, sow!! Also getting Portuge's seeds soon, and still need to sow what I got from semillas la palma.

-Walt

What a coincidence, I was just taking pics of my Tarahumara, great chiltepin.

Yeah, very weird. I also got a pod from the seed train, and then I get this package and now you mention it and posted pics? Something strong is telling me I need this one. As a tepin lover I can't resist so this one I'm definitely putting down.

I'm also going for the tepins and the crosses mainly because they're heat and draught tolerant. Perfect for Vegas weather. My Sonoran tepin was the only survivor from last year, so if the crosses work out for me then I'm gonna attempt more crosses. I'm looking forward to trying a tepin x bhut cross. Hmmm.... idk lets see what happens.

-Walt

It's funny that you had that sent to you from Finland when you're so close to where they're originally from...

Yeah, I know that's funny. I noticed that a lot of Europeans are into wilds. Some have varieties that are kinda hard to get or less common ones.

I was thinking... how about we try to make a tepin x bhut cross this year? I'm gonna give it a try to cross them but I'm no expert in this stuff. I do want to learn so if you can shoot me some pointers that would be cool.

If you do make it I'd be glad to grow it out :D.

The Chiltepin x 7 Pot Barrackpore is close enough to me.  The Barrackpore I grew had a similar aroma to Bhuts in my opinion.

Here's a pic from my 2012 grow:

This is a great guide for getting started with crossing, you may need to adjust to suit your style and what works for you, but the basics are all here:

Again, from Finland ;) .

Nice pods! That's awesome then, I know what to look for now. Or at least some similarities. I had one pop that has small cotyledons and not as huge as the first one that popped. I'm just getting all excited :D.

I found a bud on the tepin x lemon drop and it's barely 2.5 inches? Looks like an early producer like both baccatum and annum. I feel that this cross and yours are winners. Let's hope for nice flavor and pheno.

brother! it is true! it can not hurt! test and see!

Very cool setup. And it's interesting that you have experience with many different kinds of lights. What do you get the best results with? The purple look of the LEDs always kind of weirds me out.

Love how Charles swoops in with the final pod shots. Good way to stay motivated.

Amazing looking seedlings!

Thanks Maxi! Actually when I was doing my research for plant lighting I never knew fluorescents existed lol. All that ever came up was from the MaryJane websites.

So when I looked at the prices for LEDs, I almost gave up til I pieced out together everything to make a LED panel, even waiting close to a month and a half to get the LEDs from China. After all I built it and I was just amazed on the performance.

Then I saw people using fluorescents and their results and I wanted to give it a try and results weren't what I hoped for. And I didn't feel like paying $40 to get all bulbs replaced every year or 2.

The LEDs have been working for me almost non-stop for a year and still haven't cost me a dime to replace anything. I feel that my grow last year crapped out because of this. They just lag behind in growth compared to the LEDs.

Let me dig out a few pics from last year when I first built it, oh and material wise it only costed about $30 ;).

Must be the combination of red and blue spectrum mixed together with the LED light fixture
More usable light IMHO. People say peppers aren't color sensitive, which I think it's true.

Now photosynthesis is photosynthesis and plants only use certain colors in the light spectrum that when you hit them with what they only need which is mostly blue and red, they can actually grow faster.

Another thing with LEDs is that they're so cool you can put them closer to the lights. My galapagoense was curling it's leaves upward with the T5's and after I put it under the LEDs the leaves actually look very nice flat and a bit round. So that's another plus. Many would avoid LEDs mainly because of the cost vs fluorescent and availability. If you can manage to build your own you save lot's of cash and you won't be disappointed. Trust me. I'll post a pic of my galapagoense shortly so you see what I mean.

Do you have a post somewhere describing you LED light(which emiters / drivers, blue red ratio, etc)? did you build it?

Yes sir I do I'll bump it up in the "Grow Tech" section in the forum so others can see. Give me about 5 minutes.
