I think the plants will be fine, you have only had them in there such a short time and once you water it in it will be liking flushing them. The only thing I was concerned about was if it was an open bag where bacteria etc had been growing in.

Guess what I think I stuffed up again!! My brain and memory is so not working properly since being pregnant. You know how I was soaking my seeds, well I just read that the bleach solution should be 10% not 20% and should be soaked for 5 mins then rinsed not 24 hrs!!! Put them in this arvo but they were bright white with the outer case see through. Don't think they will germinate but I will put it down to an experimentJust spewing cos now I only have 6 chocolate scorpion seeds left, the one I was most excited about. I have never had so many of these problems before and just put it down to not thinking straight. Oh well will see in a couple of weeks....
I went out yesterday to pot up some Chilli only to find my bag of potting mix has got too wet with the downpours we have been having and had white mold growing on it. Well that will teach me from not putting it in a dry place!!
Hey let us know how the bleach experiment turns out. I usually only soak my seeds for 8-10 hours but have read of people soaking for 24hrs. I have only used bleach(I think it was 10%?) once before but did soak them for around 8hours and got excellent germination.
So only 3days to D-Day. Exciting stuff!! Good luck to you and the new little fella.

Yeah old soil can be a problem. I also used to recycle soil from the nursery I worked at but found after awhile that I was geting more problems than what it was worth. Also introduced a nursery weed that is really hard to control, so always just go fresh with everything now.
Are you putting these plants in your greenhouse or gonna keep them under lights for as long as possible?
Good to hear that you had excellent germination and you soaked it that long. Gives me a bit of hope!

Ok so ages back I mentioned I was going to do an experiment with the jiffy pellets. 2 plants I potted on I took the netting off the pellets and the other 2 I left them on. I had read in another thread someone complaining that the roots wouldn't grow through the netting and were coming up out of the netting. So because I have just had to throw these plants away anyway I rippedthe roots in half to get to the jiffy pellet.
No problems at all! Both had roots growing down like they should and there were no problems with the roots penetrating the netting.
So will leave the netting on from now on like I have always done.
Also finally put the other plants in the bin, (just had them ripped up out of their pots sitting outside cos our bin was full. To my surprise the biggest plant I had growing under lights actually had flower buds forming. So I'm glad at how quick they developed.

I'm now up to a dozen Rocoto seedlings in the garden:

I need some ideas in regard to helmut removal, preferably without the use of explosives.
A rocoto seedling refuses to take it's helmet off and has been like that for over two weeks, it looks as though his neck is being strangled like homer does to bart lol.
I have always been a leave helmet on kinda dude but never grown rocotos and never soak seeds. That will change with the rocotos now.
Should i operate or not?

Still haven’t put the walls on the greenhouse from Summer yet. Pretty slackaroonie!
I was hoping to prolong it as long as possible and just grow them under flouro’s until Sept. I have planted nearly 50 Varieties so far and with a few left over from last season I might have to transplant some outside to the Greenhouse earlier seeing I am only half way through and running out of room! Also will be doing a crude experiment that involves seedlings/eves of house/gladwrap and some wood to keep in with the “Growing In Winter” theme.

Well Nova unfortunately I can't tell ya.
Just about everytime I get Pis.. off with the Helmuts and try to take them off I FAIL!
Don't seem to get the problem anymore with soaking the seeds though.
I have successfully got a couple off but waited till the first leaves try to push the Helmut off and went very carefully.

If I've had problems in the past with helmets then I mist spray them everyday hoping to soften them up. Once it feels a bit softer I try and squeeze the edges of the seed gently to open it. If it won't come off easily then leave it for a few more days and keep misting. Of course you don't want them to stay too damp otherwise you might get "damping off".

I just drop water onto the seed shell constantly to keep it moist and eventually the little buggers just fall off. But the key is they need constant water applications to stay soft. It always works for me.

I find that spraying them with a little water for a few days, then gently taking the helmet off works for me =)
Just sunshine (they get full strong sunshine all day from sunup till sundown both behind glass in the afternoon and natural unadulterated in the morning/middle of the day) don't have any supplementary lights ... maybe I should get some CFL's to give them another couple of hours at night??
I would have thought they would have been getting plenty of light but maybe 10 hours isn't enough for the Aji Lemons. I would have thought all of the seedlings would have been showing these symptoms if it had been light induced though?
Is it all the Aji Lemons or just one or two seedlings in particular? I have on the odd occasion had one seedling out of a heap just come out like a white colour with yellow leaves and very slow growing. Nothing was done different to that one to the others so just put it down to a dud seed and chucked it. If it is pale yellow it would suggest nitrogen, not sure what is in your ocean mist but you think if it was in good potting mix and still young that nutrients wouldn't be a problem. Photo will paint the picture a bit clearer.

No I wouldn't have thought it would need nutrients yet. Both Aji's are the same (2 from 2) the others aren't effected it would seem
