Whoahhh thats a good grow right there ... nice one Jungle Rain

So after seeing all these great Germination set-ups and seeing as some of my seeds have been in their jiffy pellets on top of the pay-tv box in jiffy-7 mini greenhouses for 2.5 weeks without a sign of life yet, I am starting to look at alternatives to try to boost my germination speed (and in all likely-hood germination %)

Closing in on 3 weeks and I am starting to get anxious about my strains and the fact I have wasted possibly over half of my seed stocks.

I can't afford for another failure if these don't come to fruition. I have another batch of seeds on the way, including Chocolate Bhut and Cheiro Do Norte which are both going to need some nice warm temps to get germination happening.

So with this in mind I am currently looking at my heating options for my germination station.

I am going to have a look at Bunnings to see if they have anything cheap (although they are often limited in options for these sort of things), but I have found these options on good old ebay.

reptile heating mat

or something like this for a similar set up to Novocastrian

Submersible Aquarium Heater

I have given up hope on my current seedlings yet but seeing everyone here getting germination within 2 weeks is starting to make me very anxious

Any advice??

I should also clarify that I have had 6 seeds germinate.
I threw 2 out that were a store brought seed of an ornamental thai which I decided I didn't want to grow since I had already ordered a bunch of more exciting varieties.
I have had 2 C. Annuum's pop up (Super Chilli's) and 2 C. baccatum (Aji Lemon's) (100% Germination on those 4).

However none of the C. Chinense varieties have emerged, or the Numex Twilight (C.Annuum).

I should also clarify that I am fairly experienced in plant propagation just not C. Chinense seed propagation which are the only type of seed I have ever had issues with so far.

Trippa, I believe Bunnings has a combo heat mat and mini greenhouse for around $50, I think.

Or if it is just a heat mat you are after, check out some hydro stores.

If you have the cash to spare, try and get one with a thermostat so you can control the heat. The ones without thermostats usually only heat up to around 10C above room temperature (and speaking from experience, not ideal with winter here atm! ;))

Cheers Gas ... Yeah I have seen the bunnings combo... ... its just I might have to twist the wifes arm a little  How much do roses cost this time of year

Some nice mass production there Jungle

Hey Nova Iv'e had the same PH tester as you mentioned for a while now and is working excellent so far for testing the water.

Hey Trippa I did have a 2 in 1 tester that used a needle guage to test soil PH and to see how wet the soil is too. I recently purchased one of those 4 in 1 digitals and so far very impressed with it.

Trippa just buy it and tell her it was $20.00 on a sale, I betcha thats what she tells you about her new shoes or bag...

Everyone has their vices. Just us guys have ones made from cast iron. You girlies have them made from diamonds and pearls. :D

I sowed about 90 seeds just over a week ago. The germination box didn't maintain a constant temp, it got cold a few times but it's obviously been warrm enough because...
3 Congo Bowns and 3 Limons (all that was sown of those varieties) are up  and under lights.

and I can see the emerging hooks of a Fatalii, Cochiti, Cayenne Gold, and a "???Mystery Pepper???"

Pretty good start I think.

Mucho Headstarto on Mucho Nacho.... :D

nova any updates on your garden.....
The dirt i have been fermenting got real wet. In my drunkem state i planted some tomato seeds instead of chilli, i busted up my little finger whilst stabbing holes into metal grow containers, planted said tomato seedling into an air pot, smoked some, made moonshine, petted my dog and picked up his turds, drank moonshine, put more fermentables into dirt pile, looking for decent priced grow medium, going to get seaweed tomorrow. :D

looks like everyones early winter starts are coming along with none to very little problems so for,
goodluck everyone lets hope we all have our best chilli season to date!!!!

nice score on the plants gas!!

I just went to my favourite local store (Bunnings  ) and picked up my electric propagator .... sweeeet!!!

I also had a new arrival in my house this morning 1 beautiful little germinated chilli ... I named her Numex Twilight :woohoo: that brings the total to 6 successfully germinated seeds (all Annuum var. and 2 Aji Lemon)

Still no stirrings on the chinense var. though so I will put them across to the propagator tonight to try to rev them up a little

Just wondering if there would be any interest in getting an oz-centric organic supply database going ??

I am always looking for organic supplies and I know it would be much easier to be able to have as many links as possible in the one spot to save a google mission. I would only do it if there was enough interest though.

I try to be 100% certified organic with my gardening (only thing I haven't used certified are the Jiffy pellets/pots although they are organic I think??)and this grow will be no different.

let me know and I'll start sorting it

Got my seaweed today, 140 litres of it. It brang back some nice memories collecting it of my grandfather, i could imagine how chuffed he would be with me doing what he taught me. Total cost, one drive to the lake and an afternoon with people i love. Great stuff.
