    Unk's Grow

Alright dudes, been a minute since my last logon - summer classes, work, and a new toy.  Here's an update.   Here's the whole garden.           On the left, lettuce and brocolli.         A small row of leeks and potatoes on the right.           Pepper shot - need to weed on the right.      ...

    Unk's Grow

Update   Highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s and it's time to plant out.  Harvested more castings, mixed them with the left over soil from last year's grow and cut the entire thing to about a quarter with Growstones ...a recycled glass product similar to perlite.  Added some Blood, Bone, Kelp...

    Resource: Inexpensive Fabric Pots

Just about to post this.   Good link tho sneaky - can anyone speak for the quality of the pots.   Heres a link to the GeoTextile fabric.  Common stuff but it's not cheap.

Anyone using Potassium Silicate on their plants?

Lol @ dash.     People on IC have good results with the Protekt by DynaGrow.  Surprisingly even organic growers are using it.

    Rapid Rooter

Rapid rooters worked well for me this year.  Some dried out - after soaking them in water all was ok.

soil Thoughts on my first soil mix?

Looks good to me and espoma's tones work very well.  FWIW, my most effective mix this season is 1/3 EWC, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 perlite, and biotone.  Gotta water often.    Your mix will definitely get it done.   Stuff worth looking into:  pine bark fines, rice hulls, rock dust, myco, and mulches.

    Unk's Grow

Update   It's sunny and in the high 70s here in mid-mi this week.     Since the last update, a number of plants were potted up into a mix of 1/3 EWC, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite, and Espoma BTSP.  They were placed in any available containers; some plastic, 1gal geopots, I found a couple old...

    Thoughts on Companion Planting?

Check this out.  Old thread but some cool info there.  Companion planting clover worked well for me indoor and out - legumes bind nitrogen to the soil!   Anyone know where MadLibs posting these days?

    Opinion on this Drip Setup

Looks nice and probably works great if you can dial it in.     Personally I'd go the Blumat route.

seeds Burpee vs Jiffy pellet germination experiment

Thank you guys for this comparison.  This years bumper crop went into those cocopots about a week ago and zero sprouted so far.  After reading this I transferred them over to rapid rooters.  Thanks again!

    Perlite versus Rice Hulls

As a byproduct of the rice industry, using it makes your garden much more eco friendly.  As it breaks down it will help cycle nutrients ...AND!  it doesn't float in your potting mix.    Go for it!
