THAT is a very valuable 2 cents.... positive input to the discussion

Not Naga Viper But Genuine Testing!

I don't know as it is common... It happened from seed that was purchased from NMSU 2 seasons ago. Janie @ CCN had several customers who purchased plants from her write or call, claiming that what was supposed to be a red bhut was yellow. With all the Bhut traits. I grew 300 plants the same year...

So true about the fragility of the Bhut Jolokia!! Every year we get a late August wind here in Southern Oregon...every year I find the domino effect here on the farm with Bhuts snapped clean off at the base. They do NOT bend. Or lay over. They snap. So we came up with a fairly quick system to...

Not Naga Viper But Genuine Testing!

Janie @ CCN shared with me that the seed she used was from CPI. She had been getting poorer quality seeds year after year (last 2 years they were GARBAGE!!)and started growing her own for seed stock. She did this through a friend that grows for her in New Mexico.

You seem dead set on disqualifying this chile as a Bhut...did you do the same with all the other yellow chiles that have appeared on the planet?...Scorpions? Seven Pots? Habaneros? Here maybe this will help.... It's YELLOW, It's shaped like a BHUT, It has the texture of a BHUT, It is hot as...

They were not true to form as far as the texture, it was slightly smoother than the true bhut. Same twisting and size....No I won't be messing with them. They are in "The Dust"

out of the 120, we had a couple that had an orange color and about 5-6 that were red. I kind of expected that could happen considering they grew up in the midst of the red bhut field. But for 95% of this past years crop to stay true was good. I have saved seed from the purest looking ones nor...

Thanks Chris! We were really excited about the award. I'm glad you liked it. Wow, continuing "deep thoughts" and discussion about the Yellow Bhut. The negative crap from 1 or 2 makes me wish I had kept it to myself. But, people like this crop up in life, so we just have to press on. I really...

Yes!! Jim R is who you are refering to I think. He bought plants from her that same year that I first grew the seed from CPI. We were thrilled about the Dragons Dust winning 2 second place awards this year!! And, our BBQ Sauce won 1st for the Smoky catagory AND best overall Sauce!! I was so...

That is partly correct Candice!! Cross Country Nurseries (to whom you are refering) and I, both got our seed from the chile pepper institute the same year. Janie had about the same percentage of Yellows show up in her crop as I did that first year....Dave @ The Chile Farm (nice to see you here...

Wow... your just not going to let that go are you? Incredible The Yellow Bhuts in the photos taken by cmpman1974 are of chiles grown on our farm. I think the "peppergrowingman" posted a link to it. I grew about 120 of these Yellow Bhuts last year in isolation and had the best majority of them...

Thank you long for the business you have given me. I agree with Cappy to some degree, you have to be careful whom you buy from or trade with, sadly at times, seeds are purchased or traded that don't pan out. About half of the seed I traded here last year did not turn out to be what was...

    Different strains of Chocolate Hab

That's funny I spoke with him about three years ago and got the peat moss schpeel.... what a joke. 95% of all seed starting mix is loaded with peat moss and works great for chile germination.

Check out the "BIRD" in this 7-Pot !!

Thanks Josh, that is a great example of what flash will do. The last pic I used for the color example was not with flash. It was taken in a "light box" still you can see the brown color in the Habanero and the red in the 7-pot. That pod we are discussing definately is a shade between the two...

    Guam Boonie (Doni Sali) question

I received seeds (Guam Boonie) from a friend who lived in Guam for many years. I grew the pods but got something much different than I expected. I have heard of 2 types of these chiles. What I ended up with are pictured. But I have doubts as they are bigger than I have heard they should be. Also...

This is our first harvest of the Goronong Chile. These were the tame pods. Some were VERY twisted. Will taste test tomorrow night.

Check out the "BIRD" in this 7-Pot !!

Here is what I meant by "Brown" The picture gives perspective. It is a cross between red and brown. My eye leaned toward brown. The one who provided me with the seed called it a brown seven pot.
