pests Anyone use "trap crops" or companion plants for pest control?

I noticed this year that the deer stayed away from my pepper plants and ate the tomato branches first. Now that most of the tomato's are dying off, they are starting to munch on the pepper plants more. I think next year i will plant a wall of tomato plants around my prized pepper plants.

Different shaped peppers from the same plant.

Just a shot in the dark. Maybe those 5 peppers on the right come from two different plants? This year i was picking green pods off of a pepperonicini for pickling/salad peppers. And i was also picking green pods from an adjacent aji yellow hybrid accidentally in the proccess. It seems a low...

What kind of temperatures do you need to make bhuts turn red?

Ive picked some red bhuts this year when they were still half green. I leave em on the counter for a day or three and they finish turning red. As far as night time temps getting to cold i believe pepper plants will stay active as long the as the soil temp stays above 50 degrees. The plants will...

    Patrick's 2011 Grow Log

I think those plants will recover. I planted out about a dozen plants just before easter and they got beat up pretty bad by heavy rain, wind and night temps in the 30's. a month later they are all still alive and putting out new growth nicely. Jim

Put a name to these peppers?

Howdy all In my quest of loving the hot pepper and growing them i met a co-worker who also loves gardening and growing hot peppers. We got to talking and after a couple days he brought some pods in that he had dried from last season. He is a portuguese/American and he claims these peppers...

LOL, yep that one gallon bucket makes a good pot. Drilled plenty of holes in the bottom for drainage. Shoontok 2011 Pepper Grow

Thx guys, glad ya like it. Yep its gonna be a nice garden for sure. Placing them rocks is kind of labor intensive and does take quite a bit of time as opposed to constructing lumber beds, but the stones are free and there is thousands of them at that property. And them stones will be there alot...
