^^^Agree. Besides those mixes only have enough nutes to las 3-4 weeks. After that period you need the fertilize anyway. I would think buying vermiculite, perlite, and peat separate then adding some compost or vermicompost would be cheaper, and IMO better!! :cool:

I HEAR THAT...I get ladybugs for the aphids and praying mantis for the grass hoppers!! 3 years ago I lost a whole outdoor hydro setup to aphids.

I went from hydro (aero/dwc) to soil...had inconsistent plants and also yellowing. This year I went to 100% coco coir and things have never looked so good. I like coco more than peat, but its just personal preference. I hope the switch works out for ya. :onfire:

I get my bags at a local hydroponics /grow shop. I think I paid 4$ for 25 3gal bags.

I like pots. But if you are looking to save a little $$, look into grow bags. You can get about 25 5gal bags for under 10$.

Outside. Ive used white paint also...the sun doesnt heat them up as much as black. Though ive never had a problem with black.

So for so good!! Quick tip...cause I also use 16oz & 2L pop bottles to grow in. Get a can of spray paint, black works best (the kind that bonds to plastic) and give those containers a thin coat. It will dramatically cut down on algae growth.

It would work. But if it were me Id buy a couple bag of manure and a bag of worm castings and mix it in to your soil. That mix is mush, top soil, bark, and sand...mushroom mix is good but you already have the top soil, and sand wont help with drainage (in my experience). Bark will help with...
