Annie's 2014 Glog: FINAL Grow List before new 2014 glog

Began 2013 yesterday morning. 12 hour soak seed soak in potassium nitrate and H202 (diluted) in ice trays. Kept warm on heat mats. Mix is Promix BX with a lot of perlite added. Pre-moistened, then put in 72 cell 6 pack flats and bottom watered on heat mat to fully wet mix with Actinovate, kelp, Biotamax--a sliver--then drained, aerated with fork, then back to mats to await seeds. Lost a few seeds as I'm handier with turkey baster (obviously from seeds left in bulb when clean-up) when it's used for Q or turkey, but have plenty of viable seeds. Trying to prevent damping off. Seeds from Chris, Jamie (Romy6), Ed, Judy (pepperlover.com), peppergal, peppermania, Baker Creek, Trade Winds, Tomato Grower's Supply, My Patriot Supply . . . and my own saved. Now to prevent damping off. Have ordered Pyrethrin to go with Actinovate, lots of fans, soil temps were 85 this morning when wood stove was dying, restoked, back up to 90F, soil temps (sorry, no pic), as while carrying in wood in our ice and snow/ice storm yesterday morning, I fell. Sorta fell. Falling would have hurt less: why do we try to stop the inevitable? This is my first grow of superhots, so please, any suggestions?! Lemme know, please. Right now the domes are on again, but will be slanting them off in a couple days, if not sooner, and always, flats get 20 minutes fresh air in morning. (Freezing but fresh air <grin>.)

Lights and mylar box--other side of shelving unit is large white sheet (and I know the mylar is crinkled). Also there's some diluted Clorox gunk am gonna get off, but for now, I like the idea of diluted Clorox gunk.

Thanks to so many helpful members here. I hope these seeds hook, live long, prosper, aka do not damp-off. Updates, I hope . Peace, Annie

Great update Annie, I think there will be more to come from the boys you left baking in the simulated sun. Not sure if I told you before but I’ve left my eggs out in the sun all day, thermometer outside the egg crate read well over one hundred and 5 of 6 seeds sprouted in a week. Now I know I’ve said this somewhere else on these forums but peppers are more resilient than we believe, either it was meant to be or not but I doubt one night of 100 degree killed them all.

BTW while I do jerk every now and then I’ve not posted any of mine yet. It was probably STEVE954 who did some jerk for superbowl posted here but I can see how you’d confuse us pepper brethrens, hehe. On that note, the best jerk I’ve ever had was roadside near Boston Bay in the parish of Portland on the north eastern coast of Jamaica. I would drive over there from Kingston just to buy their sauce in Coca-Cola PET 20oz to 2 liter bottles. I could go into it much deeper as to why but I doubt it’s called for here in your glog. Keep up da great work girl … I’m looking forward to seeing your first pods, soon come, hehe.

Update: MY temp was 102 last night, geez. Went to bed 9pm. Sick as dawg. Got up. JDM Datil got wings and got bros, sises hooking under light: now in a nice "muscle builder" bath with fans on him, forgive lousy photo; am likely gonna borrow my neph's #2 high dollar Canon for rest of this or break down for the ip4: But see him wings?

And sick, what to my wondering eyes did appear, seeing double from fever, thought I was seeing stuff:
Anns2013GlogJDMserranobbeplantandpintunglong_zps7646a5cc.jpg

My firstborn got more company: Serrano Tampequino, black beauty eggplant and pintung long eplant with helmet heads. I would be sick trying to off-lift helmet heads later. Under a fan blowing well. One Trini perfume has hooked, one Red Manzano, one JA Red, one Tab, and they all staying exactly where they are on heat mats as I baked, then planted way more good sinkin seed. Gonna wait until tomorrow and see how they do. If JA Red is kicking tomorrow, his name is Ramon ;). I'm just calling Serrano Tamp: "the gang"--they in far left tray, look good, no helmets. Everybody gonna get bath later after I rest up some. Should never have called in w/flu Monday. What lie put out, come 'round. Wish me luck with "the heads." Thanks for lookin! Annie

Holy moly girl I leave for a couple days and miss all the fun. Lots of stuff happening at the casa!! Nice to see some hooks and lots of germination. And now I have to go eat with those tasty food pics.

I need you addy. I will pm you.

I like the food shot, keep'em coming...Nice informative update!

I tried a half dozen eggplants last season from the Oriental White to the Orange Globe, but as usual I'm pretty fond of the Black Beauties, not the best producing plants unless you live in an area where you can get a bumper crop. They are by far the largest and meatiest, great for Eggplant Parmigiana.

When you get your Jamaican Reds ripening or the Scotch Bonnets post some "Jerk" chicken photos. We'll have to get Ramon and his "Boston" roadside resturant version going also. I'm sure Steve wouldn't mine dishing up the chicken. I'm do to order some more pimento wood...........hmm........can't wait to get the garden planted !

Greg, I only planted 1 BB Eplant last year and couldn't give them away fast enough. And Pintung Long as well, dang. Makin' Parm, on the grill, cubing them for wok-walk in salads, with mix of peppers . . . whew. I see one hook on the Listada di Gandia EP--also got helmet heads off the "alfalfa sprout" BB's and now they're standing tall: got deal with local produce guys to sell a few. No way anybody need that many . . . maybe Darwin will take over and kill off the weak . . . although I got no problem whacking.

Yep: want Carib Reds or JA Reds to hurry, but then want everything to hurry but . . . it won't. Made a jerk sauce last summer with CReds, red young onion, little garlic, freshly ground allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, fresh thyme, some rum?, soy, peanut oil, lime juice (and other stuff like brown sugar)--marinated in lime juice, pnut oil, Carib Red powder--then slathered in jerk sauce for another overnight. Got this:
Annsfirstquartersthighslegson225finished.jpg

I normally don't like skin on chicken but we were munchin' skin before chix were done. Got recipe while living in Dominican Republic, so while not purely "Jamaican," it is so good. I so suck at recipes as I think, let's add, "Pumpkin Pie spice" or some crazy something, so when I try to duplicate, never same. But really want to try this with JA Reds. Thanks for lookin at "the sprouts."

Not again? Call me weird but I think you like it HOT ;) Only joking, no offense and hope you feel betta soon girl dem babies need your lovin :)

Got up. JDM Datil got wings and got bros, sises hooking …
Sweet, so you have both sexes in ya peppers … mine are all girls :D

… forgive lousy photo; am likely gonna borrow my neph's #2 high dollar Canon …
I love dem Canon’s, wish I could afford the one I want now instead of later :/ BTW are you shooting in macro with the i4 or does it even have that setting? Try pulling away or backing off a little and that should result in a better picture. Also try using as much light as possible, even a floor directional lamp with a high wattage bulb. Only a suggestion as I don’t do apple, android for the phone and Canon for the pics. But lately I’ve been wanting to test out my sons point-&-shoot Canon to see what results I get, maybe try one later or tomorrow.

… I would be sick trying to off-lift helmet heads …
Of the 4 lady hats my girls were wearing, I buried 2 and both came off, the other two are in a wait and see mode. I’m not implying that you should burry them again, that’s your call *this is a standard disclaimer my attorney asked me to put in* lol, only joking! I’ve also been lightly spaying the 2 girls and I believe one will come off in the next day or two, the other one … well let me put it this way, she’s stubborn, lol.

… If JA Red is kicking tomorrow, his name is Ramon ;).
Thank you  if you want some of my seed just pm me and I’ll send some over. *attorney thing again, this is an exclusive offer, I am not opening up the flood gates here, lol*

… I'm just calling Serrano Tamp: "the gang"…
I like dat name :)

… We'll have to get Ramon and his "Boston" roadside resturant version going also. …
You are going to kill me, I tried and probably not hard enough to get their recipe but to no avail. One thing needed fresh I don’t grow here but am waiting a visit from a “soon come” friend is thyme and the second thing is they slow cook all their pork & chicken over pimento wood, probably not liked by some folks here as it is extremely dry (strangely enough I like it). While the chicken or pork never lasted me long enough, I’m guessing it was well enough preserved to last weeks without refrigeration. I did read the later in the Maroon Story and that’s another long story I wouldn’t get into here. But suffice to say it's a paste, kinda on the dry side with very little moisture in it and loads of dem great Jamaican peppers :)

Edit: OMG you zapped me, while I was writing you posted your jerk chicken, looks kick Azz mon and now I'm so hungry I have to go and eat, seriously nice!!! BBL, hehe

The skin on the chicken seals all that wonderful "Jerk" juice in...like a piece of saran wrap.....hah
Ah........the crispness of jerk marinated molasses looking charred chicken skin is the treat before the feast.

Yep.. "Pumpkin Pie Spice" is a good thing...no need to microplain anything...fresh "5 Spice Powder" is another one for the spice cabinet.

Holy Cow! My head hurts from all the AACT info...great stuff! Keep it coming! Hope you feel better... :mope:

Thanks on the feel better, Shane. Gettin' there, but what I get for callin' in sick Monday when not. No run today but was considering but temp's still 100+ and cold rain, naw. Damn my addictions! I hear you're a runner: wonderful! :woohoo:

Should've seen the "fungal growth method" for flowering AACTea. Ground oats and cat food. I read the Science Diet ingredient thang and it was about perfect . . . wet that stuff with some liq. kelp in big yogurt container w/ teasp. vermicompost blended with straw, wish had taken pic of it, but shocked me :surprised: "This mess did not come from this planet." So put that in 5 gal paint strainer, carefully with the UFO 6 inch white fungal head and all threaded up in it--plants went happy nuts. Finished off a mite issue too or brought forth tons of lady bugs. Either way, they vacated premises.

I really do wanna see a hang-gliding or hey, bungie jumpin' Birgit Locoto harvesting. Bungie be cool if right length, just keep poppin up to grab more per jump! Annie

We'll see on the bungee-hang-gliding-harvest shots...

I run but I'm not a "runner" if that makes sense. I've done some crazy runs, and crazy distances, but its less for the run and more for the challenge and just getting out there. I look forward some some running tales from you...my longest runs are documented in the link in my signature block. Speaking of signatures, I really like your Twain quote! That guy was a riot.

fresh "5 Spice Powder" is another one for the spice cabinet.

Greg! Saved my "skin" on this: about out of 5 spice and that just cannot happen. Thanks for the "duh" as never considered it for jerk. Now, consider it considered, highly considered. Place called "Spice Station" near uni. If better, tom, gotta go in but almost hate it, as can't get outta there without being much poorer than when going in. I bet they can order pimento wood and leaves too . . . :D

We'll see on the bungee-hang-gliding-harvest shots...

This means, you might accept that challenge if you get BL to 20'? Here's deal: I will if you will, if either of us get that thang to 20.' (This may and may not be a safe dare for me.)

It makes sense. I run a few every day, usually not more, depends on how feel, weather or if prepping for benefit run, do more, and only do distance insanity on dares. Dept. chair has done Boston 4X. I run with him some, x-country, esp., so we can see who turns ankle first? So he says, "Wanna run 'The Bear' this summer? Betcha can't finish." This was 2000. So, I stupidly took that challenge and dear Gawd, vast majority of it is miles up Grandfather Mountain. We talkin' infinite elevation, or so it feels, air gets thin, pavement feels . . . close. I got the t-shirt and ice packs, days on knees, for that one. Shoulda done yoga instead of pumping quads for that madness, which he did and never told me, grrr.

Yep: Twain is hilarious and provides us with self-query moments at same time. Peace, gonna check out ya runs! Annie

Jerk chix will be inbound for Cali! You got some evil-good food porn, man :drooling:

Not again? Call me weird but I think you like it HOT ;) Only joking, no offense and hope you feel betta soon girl dem babies need your lovin :)

Sweet, so you have both sexes in ya peppers … mine are all girls :D
 Well, to each her own: you just like hot, stubborn women and will take the bury helmet into consideration. Under counsel's advisement, lol.

But lately I’ve been wanting to test out my sons point-&-shoot Canon to see what results I get, maybe try one later or tomorrow.

I got one those laying around to throw some batteries in! Never thought of the simple way . . . imagine. Same light trick?

Thank you  if you want some of my seed just pm me and I’ll send some over. *attorney thing again, this is an exclusive offer, I am not opening up the flood gates here, lol*

Denied counsel but might take ya up on ya seed. Evabody back off! :stop: :D

I gotta get me some pimento wood and leaves, bro. Doncha wet first? They do in DR. PM me on Maroon, k?

Annie--gotta go check on Bebe Ramon  He is a HE. Right, mon? Riiiiiiiight.

Much better today. Many thanks for all well wishes, and Dean dept. "wished" just take Friday off and get well: they worried about an epidemic of Common Cold  Fine by me. Gives me chance to get to store to get some ribs for game tomorrow. SKO HEELS! Either way, tis consolation food or surprising victory food. Got friend coming over to make sure I don't fall into grill . . . am not sick still but will take company who loves heat. Gonna use Naga sauce for them ribs. And Naga blend powder. Quickly:

Okay, Ramon, clear, not as clear could be but a pic; here's the chilren after one day and many more pop up overnight: big family. Hope they all live, JA Reds, aka, Ramon and his other brotha, Ramon (and his other brotha, Ramon) :P
Anns2013GlogJDMJamaicanRedakaRamon_zps47dee61a.jpg

And Boss Man profile shot:

Anns2013GlogJDMwithJARedprofile_zps8a6a7d2f.jpg

Yeah, profile pic sucks. Oh well. Overnight, the entire batch of other Serranos, well, grew up. Now under lights with Giant Jalapeno, Ixtapa Jal, the Listada di Gandia EPlant, and JA Red/Ramon et als. Trini CARDI is hooking, Trini Perfume hooking, JA Scotch Bonnet Yellow hooking, Orange Thai (YAY!) hooking, Caribbean Red, seriously hooking but gonna wait until tomorrow for under lights because figured out something about helmets; looks like a Douglah is trying but could be my eyes (wishing), and Anaheim, Jaloro, Cayenne, maybe Keriting Long, and  Jamaican Hot Choc, also hooking. No group shot today. "Ramon" is centerfold :D. And crazy as sounds, because unless baked seed, looks like some of Romy6/Jamie's Morguga Blend is about to pop. I see something not "dirt." Could be "Gatah" . So, they're back on heat mats, those not under lights for a reason: I left "Big Ramon" (JA Red on far right) on heat mat overnight, covered with dome, lots of water, from below, condensation . . . and his "little" helmet slipped off easy this morning. So, when I see one with steady helmet am gonna "steam" overnight and see if they slip off easy.

Oh, but my day was hardly over last night without another shower. After reading over some student essays . . . which is always good for laughs, I thought I'd do something productive, lol, and go down to basement, get my gallon water jugs, fill up, since I'd filled 3 more 5 gal buckets to de-chlorinate couple days ago, and rain water, good stuff. Did fine with first couple gallons. Second load, in rain, fell the heck OVER a full 5 gal bucket--it was dark--face down--but saved the jugs. The "others" kinda hurt for minute but kinda just lied there, thinking, spit out some mud, got up . . . cold rain too, put clothes in load of laundry with "Awesome" cleaner: I don't want to know what's in that because it takes out ALL stain, like . . . red mud? Yep. God, I was so cold. Other half says, not paying much attention, "Did you fall?" "No hon; practicing mud wrestling water jugs." He was, "Oh, okay." Dayum. Hit Lysterine, 4X brush with Sonicaire, and another long, hot shower. Sat in front of gas logs until 1am, getting warm, laughing at myself. I mention this only because I . . . do stuff. Lucille Ball got nothing on "m'stuff" when it comes to gardening because I like to git'er done when it's not delicate work. "Did you fall?" Thanks for lookin! Annie

Lucy57...you crazy, girl!

Ha...How many of Dezi's......Ramon's Jamaican Reds to you have planted? I have a tray full and they're all perking up.
I'm looking forward to saucing, dehydrating, and powdering those peppa's.

Seriously...Annie I look forward to reading your blog...glog it's informative and entertaining............how bout a photo of the ribs tomorrow before the bones hit the bucket...

Lucy57...you crazy, girl!

Just preparing y'all for what will likely be more. Proud of my embarrassing moments?

I've not planted Ramon's seed: he only has girls and I like me some boy children. No, seriously; gonna address that issue with el Sr. Ramon in minute. I want . . . his seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed. :D

Seriously...Annie I look forward to reading your blog...glog it's informative and entertaining............how bout a photo of the ribs tomorrow before the bones hit the bucket...

You got it, Greggers. Am too whipped at moment to take pic of the ribs slathered in wrap, but liked that Naga powder in other rubs, about out and gonna have to dry some frozen pods. I gave ton of that blend away. Yellow Brain blend is good on fish, chicken but not as good a JA Red, aka Ramon. See, he just hurt me so bad with pics of those pods a few weeks ago . . . had to name the Jamaican Reds after him! :drooling:
Nice to read you feeling better, good updates and is it my imagination or are the pics getting better :)

Am feeling better, sweetie! Thank you! On the pics, more light like you said, mon and that silly point and shoot Canon! K.I.S.S.

I made the offer but never heard back o_O

Am PMing you with my address, Ramon. Okiedokie? Not too late to plant MORE. Never. And . . . you gotta gimme ya seed, now :D . I suppose I can put up with a few girls :censored:
Annie

PM'ed you for "the girls" and NO, NO pics that! roflmao

LMAO Annie...sorry about the fall...but GLAD you told the story!!! I got images of you trying desperately to keep up with the candy conveyor belt and losing the battle in my head!
