Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

Hi Shane!

Yes Corona is beautiful, I love it here! I was looking at the weather channel today and told my hubby we have a lot of work to do friday, lugging all those plants in my two greenhouse's is not going be fun! Thanks for looking and good luck with your grow as well, love checking out all your grafting projects! :)

Melissa

Purple Bhut's, the foliage is not as purple as some others I have seen?

Mystery plants, mixed pods rec'd from smokemaster and I grew random seeds. Two plants look like this, thinking it may be tree habanero.

The purple bhuts may not be as purple as some ive seen around here but those are still some good lucking plants! Massive grow list too! Oh and i like your version of "overwintering".... Glad to see its a pic heavy thread! Good luck happy growing!

That is a hudge list you ave! Very nice plants and I hope you can find the time for all of them. Keep up the great work.

Now, I've heard of jumping in wtht both feet but WOW, that is some impressive list. Infact, reading through it reminded me that there were 3 others I wanted to add to my grow list. :) I only wish I had something bigger than this standard small Florida size yard, well and the wife wants me to grow somethign that she can eat too.

Are the kids big enough to help out? We are in the process of adopting a 6 year old girl and a 7 year old boy and this weekend I'm going to see if they have any interest in gardening. I'm kinda hoping they do. My peppers are from seed but I'm going to get some small ones for them to plant that they can see growing and see how it goes. We love fresh produce and it doesn't get any more so than from the back yard.

Hope your grow goes well, I think we might have the same grow season here, that's all year long except for a few days in Jan and Feb right? I hope you can get as good a deal on woozies and on your soils, your going to be elbow deep in hot sauce soon, but that's a good thing isn't it?

Cheers,
RM

Great looking plants and grow log you have. Smokemaster / Mike was very generous to me when I started here. I bet it's cool to hang with him.

Good luck with your season!

Thanks LanMan, I have no choice but to keep up with the plants, in too deep now but I am confident I can manage! :)

Hi RM! :)

Thanks for stopping by my grow log :) My husband and I were lucky enough to find a house with a nice size yard, and luckily he is all for hot peppers so no doubt most landscape will consist of chile plants!

I wish my girls were old enough to help out! My little one turned two in December and is a ball of destruction at times, destroyed many plants already! lol. My older daughter will be the big 5 in June, and while she is a good helper she is usually helping me keep the little sister entertained. One day! That is really great you are adopting and at that age I am sure they will be great helpers with a teacher like yourself :)

Yes we have similar growing seasons, nights can get in the low 30's here on occasion but rarely a frost that will kill a plant. I am a purchasing professional for the past 10 years, started very young in the professional world. My background helps me find the best deals out there, bargain shopper and true negotiator here! Thanks for the well wishes, much appreciated.

Good Luck with your grow RM! :)

Mike

Thank you Mike! Smokemaster is a great guy and very cool to hang with, I think my hubby would take an hour drive to see him every weekend if he could!

Good luck with your grow as well! :)

Amazing grow Melissa. Best of luck to you and you know you always have a reviewer in me.LOL

Jamie

Thank you Jamie!! You have an amazing grow as well, this time next year I hope I have superhot pods like you! I am sure I will take you up on that reviewer offer as well! lol

Hey, Melissa, your grow list is over the top - you have a
real botanical garden there! The plants you have going
look great! Good luck with your grow and your grow log!

very nice grow list, i'm surprised you don't have pimenta da neyde amongst your purples

Thanks Spicergeist! Actually funny you mention that variety, it is one I want to grow. Crossing my fingers that seeds for pimenta de neyde is on the seed train I should be getting in a week or so!! :)

Time for some individual baby pics :)

My 7 Pot Brown, I pinched it back and look at all the middle growth pushing through!

That Cantina is a cool looking little plant! How are they?

It is a cool looking plant huh? I have only read about it, never tasted one. I had this plant under my lights indoors, but it grew so fast that I had to move it outdoors to my greenhouse. Looking forward to trying this one out! I read really great reviews on the taste of this pepper. I will take pics when it flowers/fruits, if you want a pod I am sure I can send you one this season :)

I don't think I am capable of ever turning down a pod or seeds...I've tried and failed several times. lol

I had a few seedlings that started out with a little tan like your Aji Joe plant...most of mine were chocolate/brown varieties. Devils tongue brown and Chocolate Bhuts are two I remember off the top of my head.
