Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)
Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.. lol. Keep it drama-free.
I, and many others would really appreciate this thread to stay that way.

Now lets get to growing!

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

How's it going for everyone else?

Periperi, those tails are impressive. I wasn't planning on getting anything resembling the hyped pics, but I'd be happy to get pods like those from my Pepper Joe plant this summer. I'll have to leave it to the masters to decide if the taste really differs from Primos ;).

So excited , just hope it dont get grubbed out like my goat peppers , to seed or munch ? I'm thinking much but fark it looks good but if I pull seeds b4 munch ain't the same mmm so torn

Dude this bad boy just warming up :) :fire:
Don't tell me you are munching into whole pods from your garden... after every second pod has a fricken maggoty caterpillar in it. I was doing that earlier in the season but I have to check every pod now. Sometimes they are just rotted inside too and show no signs on the outside. Not that I would survive putting a superhot straight in my mouth!

You should save the seeds cos the rest of the pods the plants make might look like habaneros or they could be bugged.

Niiiice one! There we go...

Whatever you do... don't eat the seeds. Keep those for growing next year lol!

This is my one plant now... quite a few pods...

And this is the other one...

So far at least 14 or more pods a plant. So not a bad producer. Should be enough heat to spice up a stew or two :)

Great looking pods! I haven't visited your glog in a while, will have to check it out if this is happening.

Everyone seems to be getting more reaper like pods now. Encouraging signs.

Thanks Scarlet Fire. Well, you will definitely hear about the taste test. I cant wait!

Wow man! Incredible... how was the taste???

PeriPeri,

All I can say is IMPRESSIVE!!!

Are you doing anything special to them care wise?
Hi Devv, just good fertile african soil and occasionally a hand full of seagrow pellets in the soil around the stem - that is it - oh and speak to the plants in Zulu (just kidding!).

Pepperhead, looking good. On their 4 set of true leaves? Mine aren't worthy of pics yet.

Super David, That's really looking good! Hope to see pods next go-round.

PeriPeri,
What a fantastic video. I'd put you up there with the best reviewers!
Enjoy the HEAT. And what about that citrus flavor?
Pepper Joe

Ok... I have done the taste test. I'm alive - just - I think... it feels good to be alive! Once I have uploaded the movie to FB I will post a link... man o man... THAT is one hell of a chilli

Ok PeriPeri, you're on my insane list...LOL

But I guess I am too, cuz I'm growing them and will try one...gotta try what ya grow!

Great video!

Take care,

Scott
