    Prik Kee Noo Pepper

Hi -   I am looking for Prik Kee Noo seeds.  I have seen the name applied to at least a couple of different Thai varieties but I want to grow the pepper that the attached article shows.   I used to go to a Thai restaurant several times a week for lunch that cooked Southern Thailand style...

    Bob_B 2014 Grow

Well, I decided to do a glog to share with you and to help me keep up with what I do and when....   Today, I planted up some annuums I started in their germination tray on January 18.  Nothing exotic here - just stuff I've always liked.  Serranos, Cayennes, and Big Jims were potted up today in...

    overwintering Grenada Hot Overwinters

I can't say enough about this Chinense variety.  They are very similar to Caribbean Reds (same heat) but are a little bigger and with more ribbing.  But, they are robust.   I had two Grenada Hots that were 6 years old and one died this year with the coldest winter here I remember.   However...

    overwintering overwinter so far

We've had the coldest winter since I moved here in 1996 - still, not as severe as some of you have.  I have lost some peppers but still have some that are surviving!  Lost are the Pimento de Padron and the 7 pot as well as some annums that are too easy to grow anyway.  I have nurtured (so far at...

    Chipotle Sauce

Hi -   I've been making this for several years - it's the only sauce I've made that I really like.  It's very versatile and can be used as a dip for chips or added to whatever you want to add chipotle flavor to.  I like to make it in small batches - this one was about 2 pints and I canned it so...

    Stuffed Poblanos

The wife and I are lucky that we can pick up fresh Poblanos at the local market pretty cheap.  I've thought about growing them since I like them so much but they are readily available pretty cheap here.  Also, they never are really prolific - at least for me.       We like to stuff them with...

    Berbere chicken

I don't know if anyone here has done or eaten Berbere chicken but I do recommend it. I found some Berbere spice by Penzey's and googled recipes for Berbere chicken. It's an Ethiopian staple I found out. Anyway, it's unbelievably simple! Cut up a chicken and sprinkle with curry powder. Let...

    breeding Interesting cross

Last year, my Besler's cherry gave birth to new plants in it's pot which I re-potted. The mother plant has always been next to my Datils. Now that the stray has ripe fruit, I see that it's yellow and not red. Presumably, it crossed with the Datil. Placement hasn't changed since last year...

    smoking Smoking peppers

I picked a bunch of Grenada Hots, Datils, Jalapenos, and Besler's Cherry peppers today and wanted to share smoking them on the pit. I smoked them at 200 F for about 4 hours with white oak. Here's the peppers: First I had to burn off the grill since I smoked 5 whole briskets last month. I...

    overwintering Overwintered Peppers

Well, it was the warmest winter I've experienced in PC - wierd since last year it was the coldest. So, overwintering was very simple although I did lose a couple of plants (Bhuts). 7 Pot - This is by far the best tasting of the super hots in my opinion. Grenada Hot - This plant is similar...

    A few pictures September 30

Here's a few pictures of my plants. Some are getting ready to burst out again like the Datils, CR's, Grenada Hots, chiltepin, 7 pots, and Bhuts. Notice the difference the pot size makes with the 7 pots below. Grenada Hots below: Datils below: Pima Bajo chiltepin below: Another view...

    Another stray pepper

Looking over my bouganvilleas to see how they fared the harsh winter, I noticed a pepper plant growing in the pot with the Boug..... I'm guessing either an Anaheim, a Piri Piri, or perhaps a Pimento de Padron. We'll see - it surprising because of the cold winter. But I did have the...

    lessons learned

I thought I knew better. I either over-watered or over-fertilized or both. I suspect both. I watered with a dilute solution of Miracle Grow and in the course of 1 day noticed leaves turning yellow and then WHITE! I've since stopped watering and threw out the solution and replaced with water...
