It's too damn HOT for a new pepper Glog!

Because I live in a HOT climate!  Temps in the upper 90's and 100's for most of the year, and a few sudden drops to the 40's for a few days scattered in.  And wind is a constant! It's tough to grow sensitive plants here, but I've never backed down from a challenge!  I should have sown 2 months...

Not much of a South Tejas GLOG

I'm not a glog guy, but I'm bored today.  I moved from beautiful Traverse City Michigan to sun burnt Corpus Christi Tejas in August 2017, never got anything to get growing. I bought a few bhuts from a store to overwinter them, but my wife convinced me to throw them away.  In February 2018 I...

    Back at it

I moved last year and didn't grow anything for the past 2 years.  Well, my stocks of powder are running low so I got out my big bag of seeds!!  Too bad that none germinated.....I guess they were just too old, 5-6 years.  Anyway, the nursery near me had some baby plants and I bought 2 Bhuts and a...

Been away for a while, just moved, time to plant!

I just moved...er...finished moving to Corpus Christi,Tx. from Michigan. Hurricane Harvey rescue madness caused a slight delay ;)   Anyway now that I'm here and my stuff showed up, it's time to plant!! Last summer I grew zero peppers, this summer I grew zero.  Time to see if some of my old seeds...

smoking Old Rusty put out some pulled pork again!

I started the spring last week by getting Old Rusty going again. Here's my trusty Old Rusty   I put 2 10lb shoulders into brine with apple cider vinegar and Primo powder(why not?) for 24 hrs, then put on a rub I threw together for another 12.   Then the start of 225F with hickory for as long...

I have a bunch of chocolate scorpions that are completely brown. Just wondering how you guys tell if they are done?

heat What pepper is the hottest....to YOU??

We all know about SHU's, ratings, blah blah.  But some peppers just affect us differently, I think we can all agree on that. And we all probably have one that just gets us. Maybe one that isn't supposed to be as hot as is. The combo of chemicals in a particular strain of pepper is just right to...

    My yarden! Updated 15 June

Living in Northern Michigan makes it tough to grow peppers, but last year I did pretty good. I had Fatalii and Naga Morich pump out hundreds of pods from each plant, so this year I wanted to go bigger. And since I'm moving next summer I need to get enough to make it through next year. I was...

How I make My Navy Style Rum

OK, distilling is a no-no everywhere except for New Zealand.  There.  And if you want to take part in this fun and safe hobby I can't stress enough the importance of educating yourself, THOROUGHLY, before you ever try it.  Please, pretty please with sugar on top, please go to homedistiller.org...

    I love my rum!

I just made another batch of my Navy style rum(think Pusser's) and can't hold back.  IT'S DELICIOUS!!!! Fruity, rich, heavy, buttery, and complex.  And it's not even touched wood yet!  Anyone else dabble in home distillation of fine(not rotgut "moonshine") spirits?

3 Cotlydons, keep it or cull it?

I have a cotlydon that came up with 3 "leaves". I have seen people say to cull them because they won't produce, and have seen people have them be the star of the garden. What do you think??

Max effective air prune pot size?

I have found a cheap source of felt and plan on sewing up pots for a bunch of first year plants and a few second year ones. I have seen plenty of 20-50 gal pots but not too much difference in the plants. What size under average conditions/nutrients/genetics/etc. before diminished returns...

What pepper are you trying today? P.O.D.

Thought I'd throw this out there, a thread where people post what new pepper they are trying today and maybe a pic. Not so much a recipe, just seeing what people are going to try for the first time.    I'll start:  Tonight I'll be trying my first Assam Bhut Jolokia(MGOLD86).

    7-Pot Savannah expriences?

I got DESTROYED by one about an hour ago!!  It was the most painful pepper I've ever eaten by far.  I chopped one up and put it in a bowl of Campbell's tomato soup and had a glass of cool water to go with it.  It felt like a MAPP torch with every slurp, I almost stopped after the 3rd or 4th...

    Heavy producing superhots?

I live up north where the grow season is short,  so a heavy producing superhot is ideal.  I make sauce to last me through the looong winter and spring.  This year I grew Naga Morich and Fatalii(hotter than any other Fatalii's I've had :fireball:, they surprise me everytime! ) with huge success...

My first "Fatalii Face" of the year!

My first pick, a Fatalii that had a bit of rot at the end. I didn't want to save it for sauce since it's like that, so I made a HUGE mistake and decided to bite the good part off and eat it! Lit me up!  I couldn't believe how much I was sweating and crying!!  Now I'm high as kite!!!!   The...

    Fish meal?

Have you guys ever used fish meal?  Any good?  I found some super stanky fish meal in a box that was marked 1/2 off and bought it.  Couldn't resist once I smelled it.  I mixed it with some blood meal in water and fed it to my plants today as a mid month feeding.  We'll see how they like it.

    smoking It's been a while!

Haven't smoked much since the spring.  Yesterday I started by putting rubs on some pork shoulders, ribs and chicken.  Woke up at 6 to get it going.  I'll be putting on some blocks of cheese later too!   Ol' Rusty   Will be doing this with Belgian beers during the daylight and later on some...

    Cool summer grow problems?

I am finally getting some color on my Naga Morich pods, the first of the year.  The daytime highs were only in the 60's last week, this week is low 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's.  I'm hoping that the rest of my pods won't be stunted and turn red when they are still tiny. My plants...
