overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

My mother-in-law has a couple of rocoto plants growing from seedlings I gave to her last season - they've been producing all winter (with no attention given to them...). Today I got these pods, around twice the size of what they had been producing:

What about lebaycid? edit: Looks like Fenthion (lebaycid) is undergoing the same review process as Rogor/Dimethoate, and if you go to http://www.apvma.gov...lternatives.php it says: "Although fenthion is also registered for fruit fly control, growers should not consider it a permanent...

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

Rogor insecticide. I know some people are against the chemicals, but it works. I had all sorts of problems with fruit fly a few years ago when I was living in Ipswich, I'd be throwing away bags full of ruined chillies and tomatoes every week. I tried everything, all the natural sprays, baiting...

    I'm not new, just back...

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I'll grab some seeds from one of the local places gasificada suggested, and get stuck in...

    I'm not new, just back...

I'm not a new member, but I haven't been around here in ages (last post in 2008  ), and I doubt anyone remembers me, so I thought I'd post in here first... I'm getting back into growing after having a few quiet years due to various reasons, but I'm settled in where I am now and I'm...

    What's hotter?

Yeah I'd agree there, the nagas seem to have a stronger flavour.

    What's hotter?

I've cooked a couple of meals using trinidad scorpions lately, and tried them fresh, and I've come to the conclusion that scorpions (at least the ones I'm growing) are hotter than nagas (again, the ones I'm growing). Who else is growing both types? What do you think? I'll try to make a poll...

What was the last spicy meal you cooked?

I just lost my chili (as in the red sloppy stuff) virginity. I usually cook with a more asian style, but tonight I thought I'd try something different. Pretty basic recipe: 500g beef 1 brown onion, chopped 1/2 red capsicum, chopped 1 carrot, diced (roughly) 3 big tsp diced garlic 2 big tsp...

    Bentalphanerd's Thai Green Chicken Curry

I've made this a few times (sorry just didn't get around to replying to the thread :)) and it's great. I make it pretty much the same, except I use coconut milk instead of cream, and throw in a few other veggies like celery, zucchini and carrot.

    Drought - Hah

Still raining... I think we've had over 50mm (2 inches) so far today... A friend of a friend of mine lost a small dog to a swarm of them once ;)

    Drought - Hah

To be fair, it's not broken yet... although things are looking alright at the moment. I know I haven't been around much lately, I've been spending a fair amount of time down on the Gold Coast (you think it's been raining where you are? It's been crazy down there). Uni has been keeping me busy...

    chinense Trinidad Scorpion

Ok so I just tried my first scorpion (the one in the pic). Cut a bit less than 1 cm off the end and ate it... HOLY FREAKING BAT SH&T... I'm onto my second icecube and it is BURNING, it's the hottest thing I've ever eaten, and I've eaten my nagas. The burn is insane, all over my tongue (it feels...

    chinense Trinidad Scorpion

Yeah it's a bit different... most of the other (newer) fruit on the plant look like the ones TriniHottie posted... there are still a few of this different shape though...

    chinense Trinidad Scorpion

Here's my first ripe trinidad scorpian (next to a naga)... Not a great photo I know, the flash makes it look more orange-ish than it really is, and you can't really see the pimpled skin that well. The tail isn't really there on this one, but most of the newer pods on the same plant look...

    Hunan hand thread!

It's worse when you don't initially feel it on your hands, and then later on some poor girl gets rather... err... hot and steamy...

    At war with pepper maggots

I'm pretty sure it's fruit flies (and fruit fly larvae) not pepper maggots.

    At war with pepper maggots

Ok so here's an update. I've identified the exact problem: fruit fly. I've setup a trap using some sort of bait thingy from bunnings which lures and kills the male flies, and it's got a good dozen or so already. I also got a fruit fly spray solution on the weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to...

    Criolla sella

Hmm ok maybe I've just had a couple of bad pods, I have another plant that should have some ripe fruit soon, I'll have to give them another go. I got the seeds from http://www.chillibird.com/, a local seller, and other seeds I've had from them have been fine.

    Criolla sella

I picked a couple of dozen of these pods today, and I have to say I'm very underwhelmed. They're warm-ish, but they have very little flavour, they seem dry and a bit bitter. Compare that with the bolivian rainbows, which are very hot and nice and juicy and flavourful, I'm a little disappointed...

    At war with pepper maggots

Thanks thepodpiper... I've been pulling off any affected pods I've seen, sounds like this is a good way to go, stops future generations.
