A$$hole or critic??? what are you??

It's simple really. Watch your tone and choose your words carefully. Tell them your opinion honestly, but DO NOT make it come across like a personal attack. Chewing your waitress' ass off because your burger isn't cooked right is not the way to be diplomatic at all....and it makes you out to be a five star dick as well.

I always say it's great. I will never complain at a restaurant. Ever. I say it's wonderful, and to boot, I never lie. Because I didn't have to lift a finger to stuff my face hole. Whether the meal was pleasurable to ingest does not matter enough to discuss with whoever is bringing it to me. If they really care, they wouldn't come asking me AS I HAVE A MOUTHFUL OF FOOD!! I swear, I think they wait until you get a mouthful and then come running out of nowhere to ask "Is everything ok?" ... "Mmmmmhmmm" *thumbs up*

Anyway...

1. They don't REALLY care if you like it or not. Maybe at a mom & pop joint, but long-winded critiques at chain restaurants of their mass produced food only does two things: It wastes your breath and their time.

2. They aren't going to change their recipe because you didn't like it. For every person who doesn't like it, 500 do. Hot food in particular. People don't want their faces melted off at a restaurant.

If you want a guaranteed good meal, cook it yourself. And have me over to tell you how good it is.

And from the biggest food snob east of the Mississippi, If I see jalapeno poppers on the menu I know immediately that I won't be impressed with the food. A friend of mine owns Ruth's Chris Steakhouse ( incredible food) and that is the way to eat, but its gonna cost you. We have a Little Italy in Baltimore and you would think out of about 50 Italian rest's one would be able to make a good order of white clam sauce and linguini. I will only let my feelings be known in an Outback or other 4 & 5 star rest's. As Klyth said , your only wasting your breathe.

Food snob?....nope, not me....if it taste good, I am eatin' it...if it don't, I won't...the only place I like to go out here in Fort Worth is to Salt Grass Steakhouse...yup...a chain but they dang sure got a good ribeye...almost forgot...LoneStar Oyster Bar is the best place in or around Fort Worth to eat fresh boiled crawfish during season...

well I think I am fair minded,but sometimes I get a bit touchy about my food if it aint to my likeing.
I once returned home to Texas after being away out west for a decade.
we decided to go to a Famous and popular Mexican restrant in Collin County.
{im being discreet}
well I ordered the combination plate with Green Chile Rellenos and the fixings...WELL! after sampleing this so called relleno {it was a pablano not a Hatch Green chile like i was accustomed to,and it was steamed not Fire roasted}
I muddled thru my meal and ate alot of chips and salsa.
at the cashier all was good until the manager asked me
Well how was your meal?
I said
Well,If I had wanted a TV dinner I would of stayed home.
and left.
my wife gave me grief over that comment,but I felt it was appropriate for what I just ate.

I don't complain if I don't like it but there's nothing wrong with it. That's just they way they make it. I just don't order that again. If there's something wrong though, sure, have them fix it. Sometimes though I just grin and bear it. Don't complain after eating the whole thing though, then, you're just out for a free meal. You most likely won't get a free meal, just dirty looks.

i'm a little hesitant to complain and send my food back - I'm worried the cook will do something - too many 20/20 and dateline shows i guess.

majority of chain places are good or at least you should be able to find something you like. i like watching the Drive-Thrus, Diners, and Dives on the food channel - those places always are ma/pa joints that look very good. too bad there aren't more closer to me that I could go and try.

God damn spammers!

Yeah, spammers SUCK!! Also, now about this thread. I've been to places that I thought I've paid to much for the quality. I don't usually bitch and ask for another version though. Ever seen the movie the waiting:shocked::lol:. However when I spend good money on food I expect it to be all of that. As far as super hotwings I actually like to hit up Frickers in Ohio. There Ex-scream is DEFINITELY HOT!! For a chain restaurant I'm VERY impressed. As far as steak there's only two restaurants that I brag about around here. The Big Buck Brewery in Gaylord, MI. Honestly not outragously priced and there steak ROCKS!! Also, I went to Lucky's Steakhouse near Port Huron with my wife for her birthday Friday. Honestly the best 9 oz filet mingon I've EVER had. I've paid more at other restaurants as well and wasn't impressed, but there was this one time on our honeymoon that we got seafood in Ft Lauderdale Florida. Charlies Crab actually. I was shocked when the waiter washed our hands in Lemon:shocked: LOL!! The food was all of that as well. Only three places that I truly love with no end that I'm willing to spend alot of money at. Usually I'm a tightwad, but love a good dining experience when I can afford it on rare occasions. I'm a critic, but if it's negative I just don't come back.;)

I am the secret critic -- I dont say anything because if thats the way they will serve it then I dont need to go there anymore and I will tell my friends or whomever the way I feel -- I am really hard on restaurants because I know I can do it better and all -- I really have to suck it up though when momma wants to eat out we eat out and its about 1-2 times a month. If I know I am going to drop alot of money then there are about 2 maybe 3 if its really something special then 1 -- none of them Italian -- we have a ton of those.

Awww...I shouldn't admit this, I'm sure...but I'm the quintessential Canadian. I may grumble to others at my table but will not send food back...never! If I'm unhappy I leave a smaller tip and don't go back. It just goes against my basic structure to actually complain.

Why screw the waiter?

Only reason I don't tip is if the waiter is rude or just have piss poor service. As far as food I'll only complain if it's not what I ordered, not if I just don't like it. In that case I'll just eat my girlfriend's food. I never just go out to eat alone.

:oops:

Never crossed my mind. It's just not my personality to complain. I'd rather just not go back. Have to admit that if my wife and I are out together and she's happy we'll leave a normal tip. My wife is from Newfoundland and feels quite differently about the whole complaining thing. I usually won't even mention my unhappiness to her or she'll hound me. :lol:

Good point HotPepper personified! You nailed me to the wall on my comment.
