I have to agree with chuk, again. Good tequila is great, bad tequila is deadly.

Hey this is my 1000th post:mouthonfire:

Woo Hoo!

The Pepper Porn Man is on fire!

(I shall forgo tequila bashing in celebration of your 1000th post)

congrats on the 1000th post potawie. i'm closing in on that myself.

had some pretty good tequila a few days ago..can't remember what it's called though. sent a message to my old roommate to ask what it was. i'm not crazy about tequila myself..but as was said earlier, i'll drink anything. (just about! )

recently had a lindemans kriek which was pretty good.. belgian brewed with wild yeast.

Kriek and lambics are different, but I think we already had that discussion.

yep, that was ross. he seems to disappear from time to time. i'm sure he'll be back one of these days.

just gave kriek a search. he was saying lindeman's (except for one specific type) wasn't real lambic because they use artificial sweetners and he wasn't sure if they used wild yeast/spontaneous fermentation.

i just looked up their website and the sweeteners are natural it appears..this is a quote about their kriek:

"
Kriek

In origin, this sweet-acid drink was obtained by adding fresh black "Schaerbeekse" cherries to a barrel Lambic of 6 months young. The addition of fruits provokes a new fermentation in the oak barrels. After another 8 to 12 months, only peels and stones left and the Kriek-Lambic is ready to be filtered and bottled. The residual sugar can be adjusted with straight-on fruit juice to give a refermentation in the bottle. This traditional type of fruit beer is more acid and less fruity.

Because of the limited availability of fresh black cherries, just as to brew a less sour and more fruity Lambic beer, Lindemans farm brewery developed an unique natural method using pure cherry pulp from unfrozen cherries. This straight cherry juice is blended with selected Lambic of different ages. Kriek has a pink-red color and a delicious taste of sparkling cherry champagne."

well, today i went to the bank and cashed in my cup of coins..so i decided..why not go to the store and see what they have for beer. i've only been to this one twice, so they still have a good number of beers i haven't tried that i haven't seen on sale elsewhere. i noticed the lindeman's lambics and recalled this thread..so i looked for that grand cru. none to be found unfortunately. i did notice some oud beersel offerings though. i remembered them from reading ross' post and also from one of those beer videos i posted..the guy interviews the head brewer/owner of oud beersel brewery. so i grabbed a bottle of their kriek vieille http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/828/2596 looking forward to trying it soon.

only problem with trying it tonight is that the girl that was at the register tilted the bottles on their sides and rolled them in some newspaper before putting them in the back. so i'm gonna let that and another beer settle first. only got two other beers while there..lagunitas maximus IPA (a double IPA), and some schneider and sohn organic wiesen edel-weisse. the edel-weisse is made by the same brewer that makes aventinus..looking forward to that one as well.

pam, i know ross was the one saying it, but if lindemans isn't a "real" lambic, what should we consider it? i ask because i was talking with someone about that conversation and they asked me. i wasn't quite sure (told them i wasn't sure) and said i guess i'd consider it a fruit beer? haha i also said "don't take my word for it, i'm new to lambics and am not sure."

tonight i had that oud beersel oude kriek vieille..for being a cherry beer basically..i was surprised to find that it was sour as opposed to sweet. took me a second to warm up to i guess..by the end, i'm planning on trying the other oud beersel offering that is available here..i forget which one it was though. gueze i think maybe.

I wouldn't give up on barleywines. You don't like Sierra Nevada Bigfoot? how about flying dog's Horn Dog? I love a good barley wine.

can't seem to find anymore bigfoot available. there's one other store around here that might have it.

did come across a new (at least to the area that i'm aware of) dogfish head barley wine style ale. it's called olde school and is 15% ABV! haven't tried it yet, probably try it over the weekend or something.

Damn! I haven't seen that one yet; I'll have to keep an eyeball peeled. I hope some makes it's ay down here to Texas.

i imagine it will if you get other dfh regularly. it's pretty good..not sure if the style is growing on me or i just liked this one. perhaps it was because i had it after my food and was sipping on it rather than just drinking it like others. no idea. if you see it, definitely grab some. it has kept my hopes alive for finding barley wine style ales that i will like.

Try these:

Old Ruffian ( Great Divide)
Old Nick ( Young's)
Hog Heaven ( Avery)
Horn Dog ( Flying Dog)

All great examples of Barley Wine Syle

have had the old ruffian and horn dog. i think i had the old ruffian a bit early on in my quest for good beer, so my tastes hadn't quite developed and were certainly different than they are now. guess i should give them another go.

Sorry to jump in, but I've just cracked one of my habanero ales that I brewed. It is frigging delicious! Wish I could have finished it in time for the website contest. OH WELL!
