BEER!

Our beer selection around here isn't the greatest, so I take what I can get. Tonight I'm trying Big Sky Brewery's Cowboy Coffee Porter. I like dark beer and I like coffee, so naturally I love them together.

well yesterday i got a bottle of Heineken to me.. and thought why not give it a fair chance.
its a pale yellow typical lagger color it comes with a 1/2 finger head that gets the f*** out of town as soon as posible leaving it to look kinda like ginger ale.
ok first sip. hmm hmmm.... yep its a lagger. no flavor watered down and un interesting. there dosent seem to be a nose either
it dose go down easily. but i'd rather have one god beer than 5 bad ones.

i can see where people like it. its verry apealing to the in experienced pallet. theres nothing that jumps out and scares you. kind of a chick beer. (given the chick dosent like beer)
i'd give it a 1.5-2/5

ok pour its dark brow but not opaque with a large fluffy head that dosent stay long

taste is dark chocolate and drip coffe with a hint of tany fruityness on the tip of the tounge with a bit of bitterness at the finish not to complex

its medium bodied its not heavy but its got some weight to it

drinkability its quite drinkable i could see a few of these going down quite easily

ok today i'v got a difrent one. its a blackberry porter.
001-103.jpg

pour dark red some light gets through not much head though. (given theres no room for head LOL)
aroma blackberry mocha
taste you get a coffee front then once it goes down up comes the blackberrys almost no bitterness

drinkability is good you dont need more than 2 though since its 1p6oz and 6.5%abv
and its made in canada woot!

8/10 i'd drink it again.\

okay half way though holy crap im gettin crosseyed (empty stomach) but yet theres no alcohol flavor.

Well, I guess it is time I post this. I have finally had it, the Holy Grail of beer. My brother has a connection in Belgium and was able to get two bottles, one for him, one for me. I have been waiting for years to get my hands on this. I will tell you I was not disappointed. I do not have a pic of the beer in the glass yet, there is no label on these bottles, it is made by Monks. You'll just have to take my word for it. I shared it with friends, one of whom took some pics with his phone and is supposedly sending them to me. If and when I get them I will edit them in here. What is it? Well, Westvleteren of course!

This beer IS all it is cracked up to be. Oh and for anyone who has heard as I had that Westy 12 and St Bernardus are the same beer, they are NOT. We had them side by side and while St Bernardus is a fantastic Belgian. It does not have the depth nor the incredible mouthfeel of Westvleteren. While at $16 (10euros) a bottle it is expensive to buy (and that is there in Belgium), if you ever get a chance, TRY THIS BEER!

PS don't tell Wheebz I got this. He is supposed to be getting me a couple more this week!

Very smooth and refreshing. with a hint of tequila. You know you have had a few with it being 5.9%.
Just right for a hot summer day

003-70.jpg

pour: pitch black pour no light gets through. head is HUGE and like a rootbeer float. lacing is good and retintion lasts quite a wile but dies down to small islands of creamyness

aroma fruity coffe

flavor dark chocolate and coffee but with a mild fruityness and a hit of nutmeg on the finish. quite enjoyable.

drinkablilty its in the middle its not hard to drink but its not exactly smooth eather. 4.8% abv

i'd give it a 8/10 dont know how many you'd be able to get through but i'd drink it again! a really good canadian stout.

oh yea did i mention this bottle broke my bottle opener?

001-105.jpg

ok heres a local one brewed 4 hours away in Winnipeg.

half pints stir stick stout

pour is dark brown we get a bit of dark red near the bottom of the glass so its not opaque the head is uniform but dosent stay long

aroma is kinda sweet?

taste wow thats difrent. it tastes like sweetened coffee. its like drinking a cold carbonated 2 sugar coffee with a hint of dark chocolate.

drinkability. its smooth its got some weight to it too. and its lightly carbed so that also aids drinkability.

definately a good brew. 9/10 if i could find it i'd buy a case of it.

my only niggle with it is the wax seal i nearly got wax in my pint.

001-106.jpg

brown pour. dark red body fluffy tan head that stays and laces well

taste bitter dark chocolate and coffee nothing too extraordinary

mouthfeel. its thick and bitter the carbonation is over the top which makes it hard to drink. one or two would be the max.

6/10 i'd have it again but i wouldent specificaly search for it

well i difrent one today!
002-88.jpg

pour BOOOOOM HEADSH- oh wiat. pours like organic apple juice. laces really well and head lasts forever.

aroma yeasty bready

taste tangy bready citrus and yeasty sligtly bitter on the finish

body smooth but larger body. carbonation is fairly high its easy to drink but not exactly my favorite.

rating the flavor profile isent exactly my thing but it is really good. i'd give it a 7.5/10 personaly. but its deserving of a 8.5/10 for someone who enjoys that style.

another one from halfpints
001-107.jpg

apearance cloudy amber and huge head that fades down to a 1/4 finger skim small amount of lace.

aroma citrusy beer smell

taste fruity tangyness almost no bitter feels more like a cider than a beer.

body medum body'ed and high carbonation but its smooth enough to drink a few
7/10

ok two today
garison IIPA
001-108.jpg

pour amber small head
aroma fruity
taste fruityness goes into bitter HOPS!!! lots of bitter hop
its a bit to bitter to sesh
7.5 personaly but hop heads may rate higher.

and the other one
002-90.jpg

pour its chocolate brown head is non existant.

aroma dark malts

flavor malty molasas then a small hit of hops.
drinability etremely smooth
not terably complex but its a solid beer.
8/10

and for a bonus
i didcided to combine the two to see if they could balance each other out
and you know what they do make something a bit better the dark ale lends the maltyness and tames down the whack of hops
so it make a decently balanced beer. the hops still are a bit overpowering though.

Yes. Yes it is. For another good beer geeks breakfast, try Dogfishhead's World Wide Stout. Best I have ever had when they poured it through coffee beans at the brewpub.

I've had that! It was incredible, albeit you only want one if you have to drive again in the next 24 hours.
