I know I said I wasn't entering....but I just can't help it. (I can take the ribbing that will ensue!) Last night the Circle-H created hot dog bliss.....and I feel it it my obligation to humanity to present to you fine folks exactly what that looks like.

.....and yes, it includes seafood.

Great Paul. C'mon Wheebz. I'm sure you can find some hot dogs somewhere. Ask some neighbors!

My real entry coming soon...

LB brought it!!! Amazing entry. I have you up towards the top of this one!!

But you never know what's gonna happen on Sunday!!!

JayT's Philly Cheeseteak Dog

I have decided that since I am from SE Pennsylvania that it would only be right for me to make a cheesesteak dog. I am doing my take on my favorite Philly Cheesesteak, Tony Luke's.

Ingredients:
Grilled Hot Dogs
Chipped Steak
Vidalia Onion
Red Bell Pepper
Jalapenos
Broccoli Raub
Provolone Cheese
Spicy Chicken's Habanero and Super Chile powders
Garlic
Basil Oil
Sriracha
Sea Salt
Black Pepper
Italian Seasoning
Italian Roll

I began by grilling the hot dogs and making the provolone cheese sauce which I did by shredding the cheese and melting it with milk and chicken stock then seasoned it a little with some of the hab powder and some sea salt and black pepper.
Next, I sauteed the onion, and peppers. The broccoli raub was sauteed as well, but with garlic, crushed red pepper and basil oil. The chipped ribeye steak (thank you Andy, my butcher) was then cooked with both the hab and super chile powders, black pepper, sea salt, garlic powder, and Italian Seasoning.

Time for assembly.

First the Italian roll and the sauteed peppers and onions

Next, the chipped steak topped with Sriracha.

Enter my favorite the dogs!

Kentuckland Lobster-Dog

I have a couple of questions for you.

1) Is there a better mainstream hot dog in the entire solar system better than Hebrew National?
2) How many sandwiches out there are more decadant or amazing than a New England lobster roll?
3) Who doesn't love a hot, buttery, bakery-fresh croissant?
4) What the hell would happen if you combined all three of these wonderful things with some spicy, pepper goodness?

Something wonderful happens......THIS happens:

We'll dedicate this one to my absolute love for lobster....and the beauty of the north eastern United States.

Although we didn't even start cooking till 11:30 last night (drankin!!), this was BY FAR the easiest throwdown entry to prepare.....clocking in at just under 45 minutes. Here are the ingredients:

100_3512.jpg

Tim was kind enough to point out the lobsters:

100_3514.jpg

1/4 pound Hebrew Nationals.......throw that on a plain slice of Wonder Bread and it's an automatic top-three entry:

100_3511.jpg

Some of the prep work.....I excluded the making of my homemade 7-pod Adobo Aioli (which works perfectly with this, I might add)....but the recipe can be found HERE

100_3516.jpg

100_3519.jpg

And here it is. A perfectly roasted dog.....a spicy, tangy lobster salad, and hot, flakey croissant....all coming together in perfect harmony.

100_3523.jpg

100_3525.jpg

This was truly a case of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. I've never had a better hot dog.

NEVER.

Then again.......I have one more idea that could change that.

Very nice Paul. I am curious how the flavors of the lobster and the hot dog go together. Sounds very interesting. I love croissants too.

Damn Right you made a lobster roll croissant dog, p2k!!! WOW!!

How did the crowd react?

JT that looks awesome!! I've had cheesesteak with bacon...why not hot dogs? Well done.
I didnt know a butcher would chip ribeye. Hmmm. Have to go talk to my meat monger.

Thanks y'all!

Jay, the combo worked so well together, that I cannot fathom why this hasn't been done before. The hot, snappy, beefy flavor of the Hebrew Nat worked right in line with the silky, rich lobster. The buttery croissant gave the sandwich a very refined feel with it's flakey texture. And the habs along with the 7-pod aioli gave it a smoky, and brutal afterbite.

I honestly would have eaten this sandwich till my head exploded.

Fd4....

Tim loved it SO MUCH.....that he went back for thirds....licked the lobster bowl......and hugged me.

True story.

JayT definitely did NOT microwave that Philly Dog. Looks scrum-didily-umscous.

P2K... you KNOW what you did... something awesome! A lobster carnival... hot dog included.
[Edit: Paul has a better phone than my RAZR.]

Gotta rethinks the strategery for my entry.

Marcie... throw the DP 4 Life signs girl!

Hey y'all. Bein' back in Texas n' all I couldn't sit this one out and not represent the republic. That's right..The Republic of Texas! The only state in the union that was once it's own country! A big Texas favorite of mine since I was a kid is Frito Pie. The original version was a bag of Frito's was opened and into the bag went spoonfuls of Texas red and often topped with cheese and onions and eaten with a spoon right out of the bag. Truly a Texas icon of foodienessess. Don't remember where I first saw it on teh interwebs but I recall a Frito Pie Hot Dog someone had made. I've been churnin' and yearnin' to make myself one for many moons and now y'all have provide me the appropos opportunity to bring you.....

The Frisco Frito Pie Hot Dog

Let us begin. Yesterday mrs. blues was kind enough to take me to the local hippy joint (Whole Foods) down the road in Plano. (Note: Frito's are made in Plano, TX) I picked up some plump all beef dogs made in house. The Wolf Brand Chile was a no brainer as it is a long standing Texas brand made in Dallas. No Beans!

Got dog and chile goin' on the stove top and started building. Nice hoagie roll from teh local Krogers with a layer of Frito's and chile.

IMG_3000.jpg

Slapped the dog on that and then added more Frito's, chile and cheese sauce...

IMG_3003.jpg

Prettied up!

IMG_3004.jpg

I am eating it right now! Pure Texican awesomenessess. Welcome to The Republic of Texas y'all and enjoy!

The Mechanicsburg Wrench Dog

This is for the town of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, who drops a wrench at New Years.

Not trying to win, but I figured I would take a "turn" at it and have some fun.

Ingredients/supplies

Hatfield Franks
Bacon
1 Caribbean Red Habanero
1 Chocolate Habanero
Garlic powder
AppleTalli hot sauce
2 small wrenchs
Toothpicks
And my 10 cents
100_0755.jpg

First I laid out the bacon for a light coating of garlic powder
100_0756.jpg

Then I violated the dogs.
100_0757.jpg

Now it is getting spicy
100_0758.jpg

100_0759.jpg

Everything is better with bacon
100_0760.jpg

A nice dip in the deep fryer and a coating of AppleTalli and
Viola
100_0761.jpg

YUMM
100_0764.jpg

The flavor is great. The bacon and garlic go well together with a nice kick from the pepper rings. The AppleTalli just tops it off sweetly.

I didn't go big because I have busy weekends, but this was fun.

I wrote down about 10 ideas for this one. So far, I've seen 3 variants appear here - the Philly-Dog, the Frito-Pie Dog, and the Baco-Dog.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that had such perverse ideas for the good 'ol HOT DOG!

So far...Frito-Pie Dog is ahead on my score-board. It's not "over the top", it's messy as hell, no "That would be good, except I don't like _______ ingredient"...and every damn one of us would eat that!

Okay...I was going to expound on the whole wrench up the wiener thing.....but I already raise too many eybrows with pics dressed as a woman and the whole weapons & tin cans thing....

...so I'll just leave it at; :woohoo:

I'm also diggin' the Frito chilidog goodness. I rock that out at least once a month.

Keep-em coming, folks!

...I still have another wiener up my sleeve.

TB - HOOYA on the Frito madness!

Guy - LOVED LOVED LOVED the wrenches, and was wondering when someone would break out the bacon-wrappedness.

JayT - so THAT's what makes it a Tony Luke's..... Scrumptuous!

P2K - wow.
