Bodeen's 2013 Grow _-_ Love at First Sting

Not actually starting this yet. Just trying to get my thoughts together on what and how many I will be planting of everything. There is the possibility that there will be no cows here next year and the pastures will be made into corn fields. This would mean the barn lot will be free and empty. It grows some of the best grass on the farm and the barn does have a well and a pump already there. Could it be garden number 3??? Also contemplating enlarging the back garden again.

Bump... Your Tepin looks a lot bigger than the one I tried to grow last year. When did you start it?

I want to say first part of February. I would have to check my glog to know for sure.

Tepin flakes in in potato soup, that sounds great!

This will be my second year growing them. Dried some whole. They are pretty good. Gotta pick a lot to get any. They don't add up too fast. If you want to try some whole dried pods, I could mail you some. Just pm me your addy.

Thanks for the offer! I am leaning more and more towards tiny, easy to dry pods...

Everything is coming up great, Bodeen. Fantastic variety.

EDIT: Almost forgot, I used to love to BBQ in the snow. Grew up in So Cal but was in Cleveland for seven years for school. Once in a while I would 'Q when it was snowing. The BBQ would remind me of home...sans snow, of course. Good lookin' plate of chow!

Forgot to add Rainforest to my pepper list. I have it upstairs in the grow table as it was weak stemmed and I wanted to put it in ICU for a while to see if I could correct it.

Since I had to get into my seed bank to send out some seeds today, I pulled out my yellow cayenne seed and planted about 10 seeds in the 3 1/4 inch pot where the other one didn't make it. Just couldn't take it anymore looking at my cayenne picture and not seeing a yellow one in there. It will be way late if it makes it, but cayenne go fast and I have almost two months before planting outside.

Never too late for the Cayennes, although my Yellows were not tall conical plants like the reds they did produce well throughout last year. Started mine around this time last year.

First Rick, and now you! I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but you guys' plants are growing so much faster than mine. I've been left in the dust ...

Seriously though, your grow is looking great! Everything looks very healthy.

Wow. Your seedlings look bigger than mine. You Definately have two green thumbs. You'll be showing pod porn in a matters time

Thank you. I got about 60 days before plant out, so I will be pinching any blooms before that. Although that early chenzo pod hit the spot last year.

Thanks. I need my plants to slow down a little bit. I am going to have to take a shelf out since my tongues are at max height for the one shelf. I think your plants look great. I don't think you're doing anything wrong.

Got my pepper plants all arranged by size under the lights now. Three tomatoes have popped up so far. Only planted 72 tomatoes this year as that should be enough. Lettuce is starting to pop up as are the herbs.

Trying to get a jump start on the lettuce to stay ahead of the hot weather.

I will never shop Menards again. Needing some more 4 foot light fixtures just in case, so I stop there and get 5 of them on sale. I set one up so I have 2 fixtures over my 4 tongues. They are growing way too fast and I want to make sure they don't get crooked necks with only one light source.

Hook it up with 2 T8s and all is well. Go to tell my plants goodbye before I went to work (actually just to check on them) and the new light is out. So as I am trying to see what's the matter, the light falls and tops my tallest tongue. My fault, should have moved them before I messed with the light, but WTF Menards? Can't you sell light fixtures that last more than 2 hours. I had to take all 5 fixtures back last year that I was putting in my boat shop. I thought it was the brand, but that's twice now and I will never go back in that store again after I make these returns tonight.

I put too much care into these plants to have some piss poor wiring damage them. Wiring isn't hard, so it has to be cheap components.

Okay, my rant is over. Hawaiian Sweet Hot died on me. Not sure if I posted that or not. Coty just started to die and that was all there was to that. I still have plenty enough new stuff growing to make it a wonderful summer.

Quality manufacturers can't compete with the cheap crap. Sorry about the Sweet Hot. Sometimes they just don't want to live. I figure those are genetically defective. Like you say, there's plenty more to take the place.
