Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

Has anyone else tried eating just the tail of the Carolina Reaper? I have and they taste delicious. Absolutely no  heat at all in the tail and in my opinion they taste like apples.

Ive been doing this sort of thing for a few years. Take just the outside layer of skin to taste and get all the flavor without any heat. Really helps narrow down what tastes best before the heat kicks in.

makes sense - given that there is no placenta on the tail ...
 
if zoning in on an "unknown" pepper, I always start from the tip (for the very same reason)

So... I met the man himself Ed Curry.  Had lengthy discussions with him about the Reaper, a certain seed monger and many other things.  I won't get into all that here, but I wanted to show you what the Reaper is supposed to look like.

This is not the vendor forum, I know that, and I know many of you saw my rant on another vendor related to this pepper, but I want you to know that Ed is cool guy and should not be considered in tandom with that "other guy".

I see in the vendor's vault he has another victim.
 
1. Promotion removed. This is not the place to sell peppers or announce upcoming sales.
 
2. Let's keep on track. Make sure you posts are related to growing this pepper. It's the community Glog.
