CMPMAN1974's 2010 Growing Log

Well, I created a different thread, but I can't find it. It was in the wrong section anyways so I'm starting over.

The season is on. Here's a peek into early activity. It's no AJ set-up, but....

Lookin' really good for ya Chris, beautiful young plants. 300 is a lot of plants to be taking care of everyday. Best of luck to you when you move them outside, I bet you cannot wait. I got some seed from you called Chocolate BigBang Naga that is growing very well, never heard of it and Potawie questioned the variety. Can you tell me more what the heck I'm growing, thanks.

Hey everyone....

The only nutes I use and sparingly is a bit of superthrive and recently Chili Focus. I'm playing with this one.

I'm not sure of an exact plant count. I'm guessing 300 or so. I use a custom soil mix from a local nursery in my area and am VERY HAPPY with the results this time. I mix in some compost and benefical fungii too for good measure.

It seems like a lot, but the maintenance really isn't that bad. i got it down to a science. I only leave the lights on maybe 10 on / 14 off. Water when necessary. I'm not into trying to promote big growth until outside. I just want healthy plants. I used to get crazy about potting up to get big plants and it does help sometimes, but the effort isn't worth the payoff IMO.

You can grow some real nice starters in 2.5" square pots with the right technique. :)

Chris

Oh PRF, I figured Potawie would question my unstable hybrid. lol. It has not been cultivated for 7 years to confirm stability. lol. Just joking Potawie. Actually, he sent me seeds in '09. THey were from a nice sized RED Naga pods that had some unusual twisted shapes. He sourced them from someone in Bangladesh (I may know who). When I grew it, I got chocolate pods!! Cool looking. I believe AJ did too in '09. Nice heat, cool stingers, but not super productive. The coloring is unique. I'll probably take another crack at it again in the future. Good luck and please update me on progress with it.

Yeah, I ain't a fan of that book and the medical profession lately. lol. My accounting book from years ago got put to good use too!

I made a mistake, its actually not a cross anymore but a true breeding brown mutant. $1/seed please:)LOL Joking.
I originally thought they got crossed by me but looking back, I think the original bigbang #2-RA seeds were crosses when I got them so I'm not sure of the father plant. This is why I like to grow varieties for a few years before distributing any seeds. This was an exception for you Chris, hope you weren't too dissapointed:(
I have some original #3's going this year as well as some ?f3's from the #2 pod so we'll see what happens.
Please keep me updated on your progress guys

No problem as I thought it was a new one when I planted it, now I really don't know what I have. I am somewhat suprised and concerned that you are sharing known crossed seed and making up names though, not cool. I got some f3 crossed #2 pod of an unknown father #3 who is lives in Bangledesh, great trade.:(

I did not expect either of you to pollute the seed pool to tell you the truth, I would have liked the full disclosure when I was planting the seed. Thanks we'll see what happens.

Accusing me again?
First of all I did not distribute known crosses. I only sent seeds to Chris and I didn't know they were a cross. As I mentioned earlier this is why I don't like to distribute seeds unless I've grown them for several generations but I made an exception in this case.
As for the name, well its a big pod from a naga purchased in Bangladesh about 4 years ago. I though bigbang naga was a pretty good name. What would you have called it?

I wouldn't just name it Chocolate BigBang Naga in this day we have Chocolate Bhut Jolokia, excuse me for getting them confused. It sounds as if you are having a hard time stabilizing the original plant Potawie, but when it looks like anything other than the original naga or when the pod turns brown I'd call it a naga cross nothing more and quit trading seed. My post was for cmpman1974 and not P.

This is the first growing season that I knew there was a cross thanks to Chris,(oh ya, and AJ) and I'm still not positive if they got crossed by me or if my original seeds were crossed. Thats why this year I went into my seed archives and started some original seeds, some known crossed, and some Bangladesh nagas from a different pod. This is the first year I plan on trying to stabilize the bigbang cross and I won't be sending out any seeds. I see your point with the name Chocolate BigBang Naga, were the seeds not labelled as being a cross?

Potawie, I have zero complaints. I liked the pods a lot actually. Just a FYI, you will never ever hear me complain of a cross from anyone. :) In fact, I enjoy them.

I'm not sure what to say to the posting. i grow for fun, like most of us.

Any wildlife sounds coming out of that jungle yet?

I'm really curious on how the chili focus works for you Chris, any chance of a periodic update?

Best of luck to you man.
