Compmodder26's 2012 Grow Log - New Video Update

So I just finalized my grow list for 2012, aka my first attempt at growing peppers. I'm starting out relatively small for my first time, although it has been tough trying to narrow them down thanks to Jamie (romy6) and his extreme generosity. But at any rate here is what I plan to grow:

Red Bhut Jolokia - 1
7 Pot Jonah - 1
Naga Morich - 2
Brain Strain - 2
TS Butch T - 2
Chocolate Bhut Jolokia - 1
Yellow Fatalii - 1

So that's a total of 10 plants and 7 varieties. I'll be starting at the first of the year.

Wish me luck!

Edit: Hehe, I just posted this and I'm already changing it up. I decided that since I'm growing 2 naga morich, they are supposed to be similar to bhuts so I dropped 1 red bhut and added 1 7 pot jonah

Brian , your plants are looking amazing . I can't believe this is your first time growing peppers. I love the pods on the 7 popd jonah. can't wait to see you do a review of that pepper. It is one of my favorite's :onfire:

As for your review of the Brain I would say I am very impressed. It did not even phaze you  . You are a true chilihead.

I would have to agree about the sweet venetian hab. Not much flavor but great for cooking for the folks who like a mild pepper. As for my mystery annuum I will get you some more pods soon so you can eat some and save some seeds. Each pod had a gazillion seeds
Thanks for sharing your experience

Thanks Jamie!

I'm looking forward to the Jonahs as well. Is that Red 7 you sent me a Jonah? In your description you just called it a fat Red 7.

That would be awesome to get some more of those mystery pods. And I would definitely be sure to save some seed for it. That has to be one of the tastiest peppers I've had.

I plan on doing a review of the Red 7 Friday night. So stay tuned...

No sir. That is just a plain old red 7 from hippyseedcompany. You will like it. Is very tasy and nice little heat to it

Ate the Datil today with lunch. Really like the flavor of this pepper. Has a wonderful fruitiness to it. The heat isn't immediate and rests mainly on the tongue for me. I'd put this on par with the mystery pepper as well. A nice medium heat. Not as sweet as the mystery pepper though, but nevertheless still an excellent tasting pepper.

Thanks Andy. Oh yea, gotta get you a pic of the morning glory. It is getting very tall. It's already outgrown our 6 foot privacy fence. I've added more twine along the top of the fence and will try to get it to grow horizontally now. Loving the flowers it puts out.

Cool - looking forward to it. I know they can get invasive, but if you've got a spot you just need a lot of vine to cover and don't mind having it run through there, the flowers are really nice. You'll have to try a moonflower next. They're very similar, same shape, but bigger, white and they come out at night. I've not been able to get them to work up in Michigan, but when we lived in Kentucky they grew fine. Just a little longer season. Then you can have flowers in the morning and then again in the evening.

Here's pics of the Morning Glory:

Full view, notice on the bottom it's sending out another vine. Gonna have to figure out where to run that:

Awesome growing for a first timer. Glad to see unlike most first timers stuck to a few plants. I'm one of those that went overboard. Like 50-60 plants and varities. Lol. But looks great. Gives u a chance to focus on them when sick. Keep it up. And let it burn

Thanks DeNNiZ! I certainly appreciate the kind words.

Comp, you're really cooking! My Bhuts struggled a little too with the exception of my purples. The yellows and whites set in the middle of the pack, but the chocolates and reds were among the last of my varieties to have some stick??? Think they may like the weather a little warmer than the rest??? They'll start...mine finally did, now they're about to really load up!

Thanks Shane. Dunno about the warmer weather for the Bhut. I've noticed that it seems to wilt faster than the others in hot weather. And we've been having upper 80's and low 90's for the past week too.

I guess maybe they're a little slow on the uptake all the way around then??? I'm sure they'll figure it out soon enough! I mentioned before I was getting some afternoon wilt too, I started bottom watering my containers once a week to completly rehydrate the soil and it appears to be working for me. I live in the desert so mine dry out very quickly...

Yeah, I'm going to need to do that too I believe. I did it with the Bhut last week and it's helped a bit up until now. With the temps getting in the 90's this week, the other plants have been wilting before their daily drink at noon too. But they bounce back pretty quick after that, with the exception of the Bhut. It just seems to stay wilted all day until the sun is off of it. It just seems A LOT more temperamental than the other plants.

Nice review Comp! Congrats to Nathalie (sp?) on her promotion into kinder! My youngest was just promoted to Junior High and my oldest two are in High school...so enjoy the younger years! You handled the pepper quite well! Great description! I can't stop at one hiccup, once they get going I'm fighting them all the way through. Funny though the only two that make me really tear up were the Brain and Barrackpore. Looking forward to your Jonah and Butch T reviews! I don't have either of those going so I'm interested to see what you think as I'm already planning my grow for next year.

Thanks for looking Shane! I'm trying to enjoy the younger years, but I feel like they are flying by. It's like with each child you have, the years just seem to fly by even faster.

I have never gotten the hiccups from a pepper before. Even when the pepper is flat out killing me, I don't get the hiccups. I guess some people just don't react that way. I was very surprised by the waterworks that this pepper made me have, considering it wasn't near as hot as the previous two. Both the Brain and Barrackpore burned like crazy when I would try to breathe, but this one didn't cause any discomfort at all in breathing, yet it made my eyes water like crazy. Very strange how different peppers give different reactions.

I can't wait for the Jonah and Butch Ts either. Very excited to try them, not just because of their type, but also just because I'll be trying a pepper I grew out myself :)

Awesome reviews and your plants are looking great love the pod porn I love how the 7 Pot Jonah is looking really gnarly. Congrats to your daughter for graduating.

Thanks for the encouragement on the reviews Socal. Everytime I upload a new one, I fear that I'm going to bore everyone (except for the full video with Natalie, because I've yet to meet a person who couldn't be entertained by her :) ). I really like the looks of those Jonahs as well. There's a few pods that look like that, then also a few pods with a Brain look as well. Love the shape variety I'm getting out of them.
