craft beer

I've probably posted this before but after having a Kona Brewing Koko Brown (refreshing after a long day of transplanting peppers) I'm drinking a Lagunitas Sucks. These are tasty beers if you like hoppy stuff

I have yet to have that, but have been wanting to. I will pick some up. Nothing of note here today, it is more of a cheapass quantity can beer day here.

IPAs aren't usually my first choice but Sucks, Enjoy By, and Sculpin IPA are probably all in my top 10 or 20 beers.

Just visited the tasting room at a new Brewery here in north county San Diego. Rip Current Brewing Company.

Currently drinking Lapulin Lust IPA. 8.3% and very light on the malt, but huge on the Cascade and other hops. It`s similar to Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, but I like it a lot more, which is saying something, as I LOVE Sculpin.

Have you had Hopslam, Maharaja, or West Coast IPA?

None of the above, but will be for sure sampling West Coast and Maharaja soon. I don't love IPAs as much as porters and stouts but the three I mentioned are all really tasty to me. La Cumbre's Elevation and Santa Fe's Happy Camper are also enjoyable. My wifes favorite type of beer is IPA, so I've tried several dozen in the last couple of years but it's fairly rare for me to enjoy them as much as a good stout.

Can someone 'splain to me the new trend of craft beers in cans. Yo no intiendo.

Yes. Cans are better protecting a beer from light, so beer from a can tastes like it's supposed to.

More specifically:

They keep beer tasting fresher longer.
They're cheaper for the brewery to use.
They're easier to recycle.

You can fit more of them in the refrigerator.

lighter to ship, 100 percent recyclable, can take them places glass cant go, 100% uv protection, get colder faster, take up less space

so yea

Regarding cans I should also mention the only time they have that legendary "canned beer" taste is when you don't pour it into a glass, which you should be doing anyway. The inside of the cans are coated so there's no aluminum taste tainting the contents but the outside isn't, so when you drink from the can you will probably get a bit of aluminum from the lip affecting the taste. This taste might actually be a bonus when drinking corn water like PBR or Bud Light but I recommend always pouring a canned craft beer into a glass before enjoying. <---See how happy this little fellow is? Probably because he's not drinking from a can.

After a couple of Lagunita's Sucks, which are always delicious but sadly about to go away forever only to be replaced by Lagunita's Undercover, I opened this treat. I call it a treat because I can't get it here and had it shipped from California along with several other beers. Beer trading is great but expensive. I have to say I don't love this. I found their "Big Daddy" IPA to be tastier. This one is just kind of devoid of flavor and bitter. I do like this breweries "Scarlet" and "Betrayal" red ales, alond with their Big Daddy IPA. This imperial IPA left me eager to finish it, just so I could open another Lagunita's Sucks.

Speaking of "imported" beers, I have to say Stone Brewing's "Enjoy By" IPA is delicious, but apparently they are serious about the date printed on the bottles. It's only been here in NM once ("Enjoy By 2.15.13 IPA") and all ten or so bottles we had were delicious. We had two "Enjoy By 4.20.13" bottles sent to us from CA and just opened the second one last night (4.26.13) and it was cloudy bitter and not very tasty. We had it in the refrigerator since receiving it, and the other bottle or 4.20.13 was very tasty, along with all the 2.15.13 we drank so I have to say if you get this drink it, do not wait!

Pretty tired after planting 100 peppers and seeding lots of vegetables so only one beer today but it's a good one... if you like chocolate.

I don't know anything about beer pairings but it went pretty good with a few pieces of this: (yeah, blasphemous probably to eat a Rogue Chocolate Stout chocolate bar with a Samuel Smith's but oh well)
