Thanks Cappy, good info. I already applied some bone meal, but only about 1 tablespoon. I always go light on the ferts anyway and apply as needed during the season. They didn't get a big dose of Tomato Tone to start with so I thought they were needy. Anyway, they have a bunch of flowers and pods right now and all the other pods look to be OK so far. I've picked 2 Dorsets and 1 Bhut off 3 different plants that had the rot, I guess that speeds up ripening because they had turned orange. All my other pods show no signs of it, but I'll be checking every day.

bigt sorry to hear about the blossom end rot. I had some toms that did that last year so I crushed a few rolaids, mixed them in a quart of water and fed the plant through the leaves. Soaked it down good. Didn't have any more rotten ends. Good luck to you.

Good advice Patrick - thanks. I have a few Toms doing that as well! This is my 1st year growing Toms and I figured I over watered them. I added some bone meal to them too, but the crushed antacid in a foliar might get faster results.

Yup, BER will cause the pod/fruit to ripen early. Pretty inedible though most of the time. As far as adding more calcium, I wouldn't fret. Most times there is plenty of calcium in your soil/potting mix for the plant, but uneven uptake ie. uneven watering can cause it. If you've had lots of rain earlier in the season or during podding and now you're back to your regular watering schedule that's probly the culprit. Once things normalize a bit they'll come out of it.


Excellent job on those plants by the way bigT. I'm getting jealous of all those pods you've got on man, but mine aren't too far behind :hell:.
 
You'll have ripe pods anyday BigT with those lush plants of yours. Patience grasshopper you will be in chili overload soon. My plants pod better when they are stressed. Yes sick pods ripen first.
 
My first ripe Fatalii pod! - finally. This was planted in rockwool in early January. (seeds from scoville) I have a few Cappy Fatalii's that were planted in early March (directly in Pro-Mix BX) that aren't far behind. I can't wait to try this pod. One or two more days.

Excellent Job bigT! Have you tasted Fataliis before? If not, you're in for a real treat. What a pod! You'll be eating that guy by Sunday afternoon my friend.

My plants are about a month behind yours and it shows. Mine were started in February and they're just now getting a few almost full sized pods on them. Congrats on your first ripe, and I can't wait to have a taste of mine! Do let us know what the sweet tate of victory is like!
 
update, but no pics yet. my fatalii are fruiting nicely with some nice fat pods with lovely shapes. actually, almost all my plants are producing.

Sodium Hypochlorite 3% solution helped your seeds germinate, grow faster and stay healthy than the rest.
its a recommended procedure for improving germination and growth rates in chile seed.
also I suspect you had exceptional weather for the grow season

temperature is the key factor for chile production.
those seed came from a single ,heavy yielding,Early plant

I topped this one and instead of 2 main branches there are 4 and a 5th side shoot right under. Any one else experience this? Was this a "FIM"?

Nice pods FineX, has anybody successfully air dried Fataliis? They seem to be rather thin walled and I'd rather save my dehydrator for the thick walled stuff like habaneros, manzanos and 7 pots.
 
Well... My first fatalii-flower opened yesterday, so I might be in the race for... something? Most beautiful pod perhaps? BillyIdle (whom I got my seeds from) will probably get the prize for the pod grown closest to the north pole but I'll could be the runner-up!

Anyway. I'm just glad that it seems like I might not be the only one unable to get a single pod this year, ha ha ha.

Seems like you win the northernmost prize, since I had to slaughter down all my plants, including the competition fatalii :( Took the easy way out on the thrips, and restarted it all with fewer but larger plants.

FIM = "F*** I Missed" Its like topping except when you cut into the new growth tips, you only cut halfway through the new shoot. It will have the appearance of creating more than a single bi-lateral split in branching and will seem to create 4-5 branching sites. Topping isn't nessessary with pepper plants. A little training is all they need sometimes inorder to let some sun down into the canopy and promote more branching.

I waited until today to try one. I ate it in bits and pieces and it was good. I ate a fatalii, 3 masquerades, 2 black pearls, some unknown thai/bird style chile, and some other totaling 8 chiles in one sitting. My ass is so goddamn sore right now. Seriously. Hot in, hot out.
