Guru's Garden - Traveling the World in Search of Peppers

Just starting this glog now so it's one less thing to do in a few months when I'm knee deep in compost and getting things in the ground.

Not much to report at the moment. Strains yet to be determined, but I'll probably end up growing too many like always...lol

Only thing that's going on right now is a clean back patio and the chickens doing their part turning over my compost pile on the daily. Intersted in seeing how the soil microbes appreciate the added chicken poop!

Pretty.  Yellow chinenses are very nice.  There've been some nice pics of brain strain yellow's around.  You trying those too?  I think they look like a particular yellow 7 strain, but that's just me...

Your plants have really taken off the last two weeks. Those are the nasty Yellow 7's...........the variety that I grow, originally from THSC. I also have the smooth "scorpy" variety that are tasty but not as wicked hot.

Man, the herbs are looking plush especially the mound of Thyme.

Tobacco sounds interesting...........how long till the harvest ?

Best of luck will the tallest grow plant.........growing in compost is the bomb !

Thanks man! On the baccy, not sure! But as the leaves begin yellowing from the bottom up after the flower heads emerge. Something like that.

Those yellow 7s look like the yellow brain strains I grew last year. Very hot pepper for sure. My yellow 7s looked different and were quite a bit milder. All of my 7 pot seeds were from Judy.

Garden looks great though. Thyme is really happy but the cilantro looks about done. That reminds me, I need to plant another round of seeds to keep the cilantro going.

Tobacco- interesting. Never thought about growing it. I should have back when I still smoked. Would have saved a bunch of money.

good to know! Yeah I'll let this cilantro go to seed for coriander. I'm still upset my Florence Fennel would never germ! I need it! As for the baccy, I don't smoke either except for the occasional cigar. The Kentucky gold is for my father in law. The rustica is for me. It's quite powerful. Interested in seeing how it turns out. I plan on taking some with me to Peru as a gift for someone there. It's to be used in ceremony :)

Looking good as always Rich.  You doing Hops again this year?  How did they turn out last year?  Don't remember seeing the final on them in your glog from '13.

Last year was the first year so I didn't expect much, think I got an ounce or so. This year they broke surface looking promising but they aren't growing as fast as I know they should. I have slacked on the mounding so I'm glad you brought that up . Gonna go do that right now.

Looking good Guru. I grew Nicotiana rustica two years ago. Didnt harvest it, just for ornamental value. Not the prettiest plant compared to other ornamental tobaccos, however as you mentioned it's prized for it's ritual use. It's also meant to be useful as a pesticide. Best of luck with the ceremony!

thanks! Did you ever touch the plant? I've read reports of the nicotine being so strong that touching it could give you quite the rush.

Ooh. Hadnt heard that. Yeah it has about 7-8% nicotine compared to nicotiana tabacum's 1%. They used to fill out cigarettes with it in Eastern Europe up until recent decades.

Hope you all have been enjoying this three day, full moon event. Tonight will be awesome as well.

I absolutely LOVE this Jalepeno var. Always the PERFECT example of good genetics. Vigorous growth, highly disease/pest resistant. Perfect leaves and pods every time. Extreme corking.
