Guru's Garden - Traveling the World in Search of Peppers

Just starting this glog now so it's one less thing to do in a few months when I'm knee deep in compost and getting things in the ground.

Not much to report at the moment. Strains yet to be determined, but I'll probably end up growing too many like always...lol

Only thing that's going on right now is a clean back patio and the chickens doing their part turning over my compost pile on the daily. Intersted in seeing how the soil microbes appreciate the added chicken poop!

Hope everyone has had a decent winter so far and here's to happy germination!

EDIT UPDATE: This glog has turned into an ongoing overwintering, greenhouse and soil building how-to!

Been eyeing this pile of gold for about three months now. Decided to grab it today :)

Where in hunt in Va they cut all the timber over 2013/14 and now there are piles of shredded wood in two area over 15 feet tall. I cannot until it starts to breakdown more so I can get tons of it! Last winter it saved me on one of the coldest days hunting, steam was coming out of the pile and kept my feet warm all day while also providing an elevated view for hunting :)

Dang man, garden is looking outrageously good, pods galore!

Have a great 4th,

Cheers
Thanks man, you do the same! We are actually throwing a big "4th of Juluau" event in light of my Mom's birthday. I'll have the stage set up for my band
(video i made with my singer, Nic and friend, Shane - incase you haven't seen it)
and open mic stuff too. We always do a big bonfire and set up a mini tent city on the property and let people camp it out. I'll be using is as a small going away party as well because I'm leaving for Peru on the 20th and will be gone until August 11th, just in time for the Deftones/Incubus concert :)

Awesome! Be sure and not let that resource go to waste! It will dramatically improve your garden soil :)

Not to worry, had a maple taken down a month back and have two huge piles decaying as I type!

Here we go. Finally getting some growth :)

This is what I always wait for, crazy mutant branching and bulking.

You said you did a manure tea - just a pillow case, 55 gallon drum and how did you aerate it?  I'm so far behind the 8 ball with this new garden soil I have it's killing me and I need to get my plants going.  I gave them some diluted comfrey tea on Monday and plan to keep that up for awhile, but I've got rabbit manure and could do a tea with that as well...

Looking awesome Rich!! Great work on the music video! ... Jealous of you heading to the Incubus/Deftones gig ... Hope they tour it down here but I am doubtful seeing as they both toured this part of the world last year.
the plants are starting to pod up nicely ... That Caramel bih looks like it is going to treat you well productivity wise this season ... Have a good Party and enjoy your time away ... Peace Trippa

I didn't aerate it at all, aside from occasional stirring. With rabbit though, you can use that right away. I would put it into rain water and let it do a sun tea thing for a day or so, then use it full strength. Technically, my chicken manure had a chance to be in the coop, doing its thing for a month or two. Then I just sun tea'd its up for about 5 days.

Thanks man, I need to start working on the next video. I have so much footage that I could almost do another as is. Maybe film a few more band ish elements and then go from there. Thanks for checking it out man.

Ok. Probably last update for about a month or more.

I'm leaving Monday for Peru. So this is likely the last chance I'll have to get out in the garden and snap pics or update you folks.

Good news is that the garden is pretty much on autopilot. I have the drip on a timer/rain delay and the mulch is doing the rest. Things are starting to shape up in the plot.

Did a modest harvest today:

The Fatalii seedling is no longer a seedling. Her genetics as perfect as ever.

See you guys in a month or so! I'll take lots of pics in Peru, I imagine, and let you all live vicariously through them ;)

Looking like you are leaving the garden in great shape Rich!

Have a blast in Peru bro ... Enjoy! Cheers Trippa

Ok. Quick update from Peru on some SKETCHY wifi. Finding some awesome strains out here. The small red and yellow ones are Aji Charapita. The long yellow are Aji Pucunucho. The giant red one are the giant Rocotos here, and the white ones no one has been able to tell me "el nombre" hahah but check it! Awesome peppers for sure! I've already harvested seeds and will be essentially smuggling them back :)
