Was out shopping today and of course I picked up some more seeds.  Non pepper, but more nonetheless.  Neon Chart, some large chard, some onion and garlic bulbs, and parsnip.

Five days in and my one bright lights chard seed capsule has two plants up and one hook rocking.  Going to have to say the seeds are quite viable and easy to grow as I did no soaking of the capsule.  Now if I can just get them apart without killing any of them.  Also picked up a 20 gallon tub for my manzano that will go into a container.

Bright Lights.

I don't know what I am going to do with these moruga plants.  They are drinking water like a fish and they already have a spread much bigger than the gallon pots I bought.

3 months to plant out
16 days until the next pepper seeding round.  I wonder how big the chard will be by then?  Planted one capsule of the neon chard when I got home.

It is time for Spring to kick ole man Winers butt out of here!!!

Plants are looking great HBJ! How often do you water your sprouts? I feel the sprouts I have in solo cups should be a lot bigger than they are, and have a feeling I've been under watering.

Right now most are getting watered every other day.  The smaller trays are getting watered 2-3 times a week.

Youre going to cull a plant *gasp*. Such is agriculture. The needs of the many must outweigh the needs of the few.

Your green fam is looking great HJeff. Stocky and dark green, really exactly how you'd want them to look. Can't wait to see those first flowers! Keep on growin strong!

Thanks for the info Jeff. Appreciate it. Definitely think under watering is my issue.

I go by the weight or lack of weight most of the times.  Then  I bottom water until it sucks up the water it wants.

Plants are looking great! Weather... not so much. About the same as here actually. It's a nice break from the cold, but in reality I know it's just a teaser and gonna slam us again. Come on May!!

With the last week of February being similar to the week before, I think we are over the hump.  Two weeks from March and I think its going to be a nice March.

Trying to hold off on going up to the gallon pots as long as I can.  Two weeks away from onion and rest of pepper plantings.  Even the tomatillo plants aren't pot-bound yet, so I think I still have some time.

Had an ice fishing outing to go to today but there was mention of following me around the ice, so I decided not to go and give up my prespawn walleye spot.  That and the knee deep snow I would have to wade through for about a mile.  While pulling my shanty.

Jeff!

Super fantastic update!

The plants are doing just super, super!

I hear ya about not wanting to give up the location of the good spots. When I was on a really good deer ranch, I learned to keep my mouth shut as to whee I was scoring the big boys. They always raided my spots, I say they're sorry asses. Let them do their own homework and come up with they're own plan. I see night fishing in your future..LOL

Keep it green!

You're on track for a stellar season! And those Manzano's are getting ready to go nuts!

I sure hope you're right on those manzanos.  I don't think I will pick any of their blooms off if they start to pop before plant out.

On the one lake I fish the walleye are generally in the same spots after the spawn.  You just have to locate them and pick away at them.  The prespanwn and post spawn time the walleye are in one spot.  Its like finding the spot on the spot.  Where the fish come up from deeper water to feed.  The walleye start staging near the spawning grounds right before last ice and spawn not too long after ice out.  Earliest I have had my boat on the lake has been March 10th.  So last ice could be getting close and the fish should be moving shallower.  People see me there, they might check it out and then have my spot once the ice leaves too.  I've had this spot to myself for 4 years now and I am afraid if the word gets out, it will be a parking lot lol.

Beautiful plants, Jeff!
Those OWs are going to be monsters for you.
If I could, I would overwinter all of my plants...they are doing much better in the second year.
I'm just curious: how many plants you have this year? :-)

Right now I have 124 plus OW and I still have sweets and milds to plant on the 1st of March.

But of those 124 I have:

  • 25 Bonda Ma Jaques ((accidently sort of) that will be given/sold/traded) and put in an isolated raised bed
  • 15 HBJ that will go in a raised bed isolated
  • 12 MoA that will be in an isolated raised bed
  • 7 Brown Morugas that I will probably isolate in a raised bed
  • Planning on several smaller plants in containers this year.
  • And I might put all the other Habanero types off on their own.
So the gardens should actually gain room this year for all the greens and onions and other things I want to grow.

OW are really setting buds right now.
