Meatfreak 2014 Glog

So I've started my grow a couple of weeks ago, 28th of January. I use the same setup as previous seasons, 2x 125watt CFL 6400K lights, black/white foil. First round were the Chinense, about 22 different varieties, mostly superhots and hots. Almost everything germinated within a week and with a total germ rate of 92% I was pretty pleased. I potted them up last week and they quickly showed new growth again. Well enough talk, this is what the plants looked like yesterday, 10 days after transplant and almost 4 weeks from start date.

This season I'm growing out a couple of crosses from friends like Gary/Nagabrain Chocolate F-2, Mike/Elysium Oxide Bonnet and Jamie/Green Hornet F-2. Also some phenotypes that showed up at John's garden, 7 Pot Peach F-2 and 7 Pot Caramel F-2. Of course I'm also growing my own discovery from last season, Pimenta Lisa F-2. Got 2 seedlings going, one has the desired traits so far and the other one is green as grass. Looking forward to growing both out!

Last weekend I started up the second round, mostly Annuum and some Chinense I got in trades these last few weeks. Today the the first ones sprouted after merely 3 days and even Chinense! Well that's it for now, thanks for keeping up so far :D

Might be too hot for you, but the peppers sure seem to be loving it.

This was before the heatwave, after it there was hardly an flower left on the plants and even buds shrived away :( Don't hope we get more of these days, bad for pod setting.

Nice pics as always Stefan!
Damn heatwaves are pissing me and my plants as well, EU is smaller than it seems :)
It should be better in the next days.

All the best

Grazie, Rino :)

Glad to see all that color and that you're harvesting produce Stefan. That's the best part of the season when things start to roll.

Wishing you continued success!
Thanks, Scott. Things are definitely in motion here now :) Had a lot of flowerdrop but luckily new buds are forming quickly and setting so can't complain on that part :)

Jal and Tomato harvest looking great Stefan... did you have some steady rain before last weekend? Some of your 'maters looked cracked. My Datterini and Russian Plum Tomatoes are starting to ripen up now, and I have to stake the plants because they've so outgrown the cages I planted them into. Not the worst problem to have I think... :)  Drive on!
Yeah, we've had about 10 days of rain in a row. The ones I harvested now aren't cracked, also added nutrients especially against the easy cracking of the maters. Good to hear about the Datterini and Sacharnaja Sliwa Krasnaja. Should have sown the Sacharnaja Sliwa Krasnaja again this season, got a couple varieties I'm not so impressed by this season. Season isn't over yet, your gonna need some more stakes for the Datterini for sure ;)

Dang those scotch brains look nasty!!
But they taste good :D

Should have bought some Scotch-Brain from you, Stefan! Even if not hot now, may eventually get there down the gens! Orange podded of the Pimenta Lisa is DELICIOUS! And do have one looking like the pods on your website! Still, green pheno yields an astoundingly flavorful pod!
Glad to hear about the Pimenta Lisa, my green phenotype is ripening of to a peach color to. Can't wait to taste them and see what the flavor and heat profile of that one is. They have both an excellent yield and just keep on going producing new pods.

Great work Stefan! Looks like you got some good eatin' coming up. I need to find some new paste tomatoes... I have not been a huge fan of my Roma's this year, and I am jealous of all the great other pics people have been posting around here.

Thanks, Adam. I'm not so impressed by a couple of my paste tomatoes either this season. I should have sown the Dix Doigts de Naples again, that one had great flavor and yield.

Some more pictures to share.

Lovely looking pods and 'maters Stefan! It's nice to see so many Chinense varieties ripening up for you about now!  Do you have any shade cloth to put up over your hoophouse? If you can afford it, it might be a good idea when you get heat waves like you had last week. Drive on!

Yeah, I've been thinking about it also. Thanks for the idea, I have to look up how much it will cost since my poly is quite big. Don't expect any more heat waves but you never know. Really glad I started the Chinense 4 weeks earlier this year, it's really paying of. To think that all the pods that will set till the end of August (maybe even longer) will still get ripe is going to promise a big harvest :) Last year I ended my season at the end of October but should have gone longer since we didn't had frost.

Excellent pull Stefan! Looks like you'll be grilling up some peppers soon, or is it salsa time? Why choose?
Indeed, Adam. Both will happen tonight when I fire up the BBQ :D Later this week I will make sauce from the tomatoes. I'm waiting for the sauce maters to ripe of until I make preserved salsa.

Tasted this little fellow tonight, Thai (Red) Demon. Flavor reminded me of a Cayenne, only stronger so I was pleased with that. Also the heat felt a lot stronger  did not expect this little pod to be this hot. Quite the back throat burner but it faded away quickly. I don't know why I didn't grow this variety early, it will make a great Sambal Oelek! This last week has been very warm again, next week will be a bit cooler so the plants can get some rest again. Have a great weekend!

Very nice Stefan! Where did you get your seeds for the Thai Red Demon? I've got the same variety growing, and it's my tallest Annuum. Cheers!

I got the seeds in a trade a couple of years ago. They were original bought seeds, had this golden coating on the seeds :) It's the tallest Annuum over here also, over 5 feet now. How are the Datterini going? Had a small harvest earlier this week and they tasted amazing again, still our favorite among all other varieties. The only small negative I can find out this variety that it tends to grow very wild and lot's of branches. It's a lot to maintain ;)

My Datterinis are looking a lot like yours about now, but I can't keep 'em on the plant since the kids in the neighborhood have found 'em! :)  Cherry tomatoes are just for popping in my mouth while working in the garden or for putting a few in a garden salad, so I really don't mind as long as they leave my salsa tomatoes alone. Costolutos and Russian Plum tomatoes are doing very well now. they're well over 2 meters tall and producing ripe fruit.

The Pimenta Lisa pods that are a little bit older are turning all-purple, except for the stems. The plant is about 2/3 of a meter tall and producing 2-3 flowers at each node.

Thanks for the pictures, those maters look delicious :) Did you make sauce or salsa with them already? Well at least the kids like the Datterini :) Yeah the P. Lisa has 2-3 pods on each node over here as well (same thing with the green phenotype), it looks exactly like mine. They are ripening of quickly now but I try to leave them on as long as possible.
