MeatHead 2014

Thought I'd start a new glog as my 1st year grow plants have now gone, and all remaining plants are intended for the 2014 season. Currently have growing with hopes of keeping through winter-
Yellow bhut jolokia
Brain strain
Aji limon
Chocolate Trinidad scorpion
Fatalii
Black Hungarian
Chinese 5 colour.
Have all healthy plants bar 1 out of 6 inch pots and in either permanent or semi permanent homes. Due to messing up the labels I'm not sure which is which on the Chinense varieties. Have 1 seedling that was seriously struggling, but it's starting to throw out new leaves so there's hope for it yet. Hoping we either have a mild Winter here, or I can get some lights set up in our spare bedroom to get them through until Spring. Have a few more varieties I have yet to plant, but thinking I may wait til the end of January to start those seeds.

Anyway, enough babbling. On to some pics!
Green pot is an Aji Limon, bag TBD Chinense, Venus fly trap and pitcher plant on the cooler in the back, cayenne I'm trying to decide whether to OW or not in the red pot and some cilantro in the cup

Another couple of TBD Chinense's and the struggling seedling that's popping back (over watering was the cause I think)

Chinese 5 colour and 2 more Chinense's

Aloe vera and a couple of strawberries for my wife

More tbd Chinense's

Black Hungarian (already putting out flower buds that are getting pinched off for now)

Stay warm mH! Nuts about the ice!

Sorry bout the temp troubles...
Will try to! Got a reprieve for the next 2 days. Think the next front is supposed to hit Monday some time. The main problem with weather like today is no one here knows you're supposed to drive more carefully. Had so many accidents in south La today it's not funny. Spring needs to hurry up and get here for all of us! Can't wait to see my own pods and everyone else's pod porn!

Chris, we got the same here, but it looks like you got more ice. I'm with you, this is not deep south weather! Just hope the heat this summer doesn't go nuts too!

AND, more on the way..
Luckily at the moment it's only predicted to be cold for a couple of days next week. No more ice, at the moment anyway. The up and down temps are frustrating though. I just want it to stay warm! Haha. I'm with you on the summer too. Hoping it's not overly hot and storm free this year.

Met with the Pastor at my wife's Church this afternoon and he was excited to let me put in a garden on their land. :woohoo: Going to be growing mainly for the congregation, so it'll be mostly everyday vegetables, but going to reserve a section for my own peppers. Going to get a soil test done very soon to see if I need to amend it with anything, and as we have a bit of rain forecast for the end of the week I'll be able to see whether the ground stays wet or has a decent runoff. Can't wait to get started on this!

Can't wait to see some pics of the new space! Stay warm! Actually it'd be great if you could soak up all the cold for me so the front doesn't make it all the way over. You can help out with that Scott...
Need to work out a layout then I'll be able to get some pics. In ground or raised beds will depend on results from the soil test and whether the rainwater just sits or drains off decently.
Looks like we'll be getting a good hit from the front on Tuesday. Now sure if we'll soak it all up or not though lol. We now have ice, sleet and snow predicted. The latest report says 1-2" of snow and that it'll actually stick on the ground. The 2 times I've seen snow here it only stuck on vehicles and roofs, but melted as soon as it hit the ground and was only a real light dusting.

That's great news on the extra gardening space, you'll fill that in no time. ;)
Thanks Penny! I have no doubt I'll fill it no problem. Have quite a bit of room to work with though which is a good thing

Ice in Lafayette.  I guess that'll finish off any satsumas that might have been still hanging around.
More predicted for tonight and tomorrow. Between 1-3 inches of snow predicted as well. It's been a crazy winter here for sure.

Yeah this cold is ridculous.

Those purple sprouts are fantastic? Are they chieros?
Yeah the weather's nuts. Wouldn't be too bad if it'd stay cold instead of up and down all the time.
Those purple sprouts are black Hungarians. Love the colour! The CGN21500 sprouts are similar as well.

Glad you're getting new arrivals!

And yes, crazy winter we're having! Unlike any I've seen in the last 25 years here..

LOL!

The moisture comes from here where I'm at, but it always goes East, leaving us dry as usual

Thanks Devv! Definitely looking forward to some warmer weather this weekend that's for sure.

Planning on potting the sprouts up to solo cups tomorrow afternoon, so have more seeds soaking in anticipation of planting after that. Trying aji pineapple and not yellow brain again, and some Thai fire seeds I received from Justaguy and bhut Indian carbon for the pepper side. Also have a few different varieties of tomato seeds ready to go thanks to neoguy. Definitely glad I have the extra room now!

Good luck with the Bonda Ma Jacques seedling.
That's a great pepper!  The seed Trippa sent me last year
produced a great plant - very productive with awesome pods.

Thanks Paul. Great to hear the Bonda is productive. Loved the couple of pods I got to try last year.

Got my sprouts all potted up into solo cups. Didn't have quite enough solo cups for all of them so a couple went into some small nursery pots I had laying around from assorted flowers I'd got for my wife.

My funky black Hungarian. This one came up with 4 coty's, and has the largest stem of any of the sprouts.

Also got some more seeds planted. Have Thai fire, bhut Indian carbon, aji pineapple and not yellow brain strain for the peppers, and 4 different varieties of tomato. Danko, coastal pride orange, lime green salad and stupice.

As I have more peppers than I need in my freezer, and also have more than enough powders to last me a long time thanks to a purchase from HBJ  last year, I'm thinking I'll fire up the dehydrator, pick out a bunch of pods from the freezer and make a few powders to give away to help clear some freezer space. If anyone is interested in some free powders, all you have to do is pick which of my current crop of seeds will sprout first. Powders will be sent out as soon as all the pods are fully dehydrated and powderized.
