MeatHead 2014

Thought I'd start a new glog as my 1st year grow plants have now gone, and all remaining plants are intended for the 2014 season. Currently have growing with hopes of keeping through winter-
Yellow bhut jolokia
Brain strain
Aji limon
Chocolate Trinidad scorpion
Fatalii
Black Hungarian
Chinese 5 colour.
Have all healthy plants bar 1 out of 6 inch pots and in either permanent or semi permanent homes. Due to messing up the labels I'm not sure which is which on the Chinense varieties. Have 1 seedling that was seriously struggling, but it's starting to throw out new leaves so there's hope for it yet. Hoping we either have a mild Winter here, or I can get some lights set up in our spare bedroom to get them through until Spring. Have a few more varieties I have yet to plant, but thinking I may wait til the end of January to start those seeds.

Anyway, enough babbling. On to some pics!
Green pot is an Aji Limon, bag TBD Chinense, Venus fly trap and pitcher plant on the cooler in the back, cayenne I'm trying to decide whether to OW or not in the red pot and some cilantro in the cup

Another couple of TBD Chinense's and the struggling seedling that's popping back (over watering was the cause I think)

Chinese 5 colour and 2 more Chinense's

Aloe vera and a couple of strawberries for my wife

More tbd Chinense's

Black Hungarian (already putting out flower buds that are getting pinched off for now)

Got a few small pods on my yellow 7, along with this one that's growing nicely

Evil looking brain strain I picked this morning

Finally have my first chocolate scorpion ripening, and of course it has to have been attacked by something

Today's little harvest

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Aint nothing wrong with that harvest!

I see a Nardello in there. Your Brain looks very Reaper like. Regardless, it's going to be hot!

Good on ya for the constant pulls!

That brain sure is evil looking. Nice little bowl of fire you got there also!
Thanks Daniel! Safi's and MoA's are getting stuffed for dinner tonight

Thanks Scott! Yeah I've been getting nards nearly every day lately. Looked up some pictures online and I have to agree on the brain looking reaperish. I know for sure I didn't plant any reaper seeds, and the only red superhot I planted last year to OW was the brain strain. Most of the pods on the plant are looking similar as well. I don't have enough experience either to be able to tell the difference through the flavour of the pod. This is the first round of pods though so maybe the next round will look more like a traditional brain.

My first ripe chocolate scorpion

Inside the pod. Plenty of oil, and a giant pile of what looks like frass of some type. Obviously left behind by whatever caused the hole in the top of it. Needless to say I didn't taste the pepper unfortunately

Todays harvest. Only 3 or 4 fatalii's today, but quite a few yellow bhuts. Definitely going to be doing a yellow sauce this year
20140621_184342.jpg

More MoA's! Stuffed the MoA I picked yesterday, along with some SAFI's and banana peppers with some cheese and wrapped it in bacon then baked in the oven for a side with last nights dinner. All were delicious, but the MoA was hands down the best. Great hit of heat from it as well

I've got most of my OW plants figured out as to what's what, but just had one completely throw me today. I have no idea what this one is. Choco scorp that reverted to red? Brain strain throwing off shaped pods?

Oh man a pepper bonanza! Hope my plants are following yours during tomorrow's pull. Also would love to see the MoAs wrapped in bacon and cheese.

You got some sauces in the works?
Thanks Adam! Good luck with your harvest tomorrow. Didn't get a photo of the stuffed peppers unfortunately. Should have enough by the end of the weekend to do another mixed batch so will have to get a pic of that.
No definite sauce ideas yet, need to research it a bit more first. I am thinking with the fruitiness of the fatalii and yellow bhut that a mango based sauce would be good, especially for wings. Also thinking of trying to find a good recipe for a Jamaican jerk sauce for some of the MoA's, along with something mixing up Nardello's with something hot like red habs or maybe even red bhuts if I can get enough.

Handful of yellow bhut's from yesterdays pull

Bhut Indian carbon pods are growing, but staying pretty thin so far. Is this usual?

Today's pull=more of the same. Nardello's, fatalii's, yellow bhut's, black Hungarians and another SAFI red hab and lime green salad tomato

Yellow Bhuts :drooling: .

Carbon Bhuts look interesting... I grew them once, but they did not grow true.  Your are looking nice so far...
Thanks Charles. I'm interested to see how the carbons turn out. I saved the seeds from pods I got in a box I purchased last year. Really wish I would've kept track of who's pods I saved seeds from. Rookie mistake lol.

Lol, awesome stake...
Lol. Thanks Rune. Was an el cheapo fishing pole we got for nothing that I was never going to use anyway. Might as well put it to use.

Today's little update. Yellow 7's looking nice-

My first open CAP215 flower. Not expecting to see a pod set from it though

My first ripe SB7J

A couple of healthy chocolate scorpions. For some reason it's only one plant that's having the pods eaten on me, while the other two are being left alone
20140623_175325.jpg

20140623_175329.jpg

No bug damage means I'll be having a taste test tomorrow night. Would give it a try tonight but have work tomorrow, and previous experience with eating a fresh red scorpion leads me to believe that it'll definitely need to be consumed when I have a day off the next day.

Today's haul. Had one casualty while picking some yellow bhuts, so hoping it ripens on the counter for me

Before pic of tonight's side with dinner. Stuffed banana peppers, safi red hab and MoA's

Your yellow bhuts look great. Meaty and the perfect shape. Your carbons look more or less like mine... I think they are a thicker-brittle skinned pod.

What all do you out in your hab salad?
Thanks Adam. Loving the yellow bhut's! Very productive plant for sure, and the flavour is great! I'm very interested to see how the carbon comes out. All I can remember of the pod I got last year was it was very bumpy, delicious and hot!
Hab salad?

Nice side of pods man! Would love to see em stuffed!
Ask and you shall receive! Pretty terrible pic as I was in a rush to get eating lol. There is peppers and cheese under that bacon.

So while doing my usual after work routine this afternoon (get home, walk the dogs straight away, then check my plants), I noticed I have my first open flower on my growdown aji chuncho. While I'm really looking forward to tasting yet another new pepper, thinking I may pick off all flowers and buds for now to try to get it to focus more on growth for now
20140624_143217.jpg

Today's harvest. A little smaller than the last few days. I'm finding holes all through a lot of tomatoes, and also in pods on one chocolate scorpion plant. Can't find any caterpillars at all. Slugs maybe?  I didn't experience this last year, so this is a new one for me and I'm lost as to what could be causing it and how to stop it
20140624_155555.jpg

Monster nardello pod. Can't find my tape measure to see how long it really is, but I'm thinking 9 inches easy, maybe a little more
20140624_155617.jpg

Really starting to agree with comments on my brain strain pods that they're more likely reapers or primo's. Every pod I've picked so far has looked almost the same as this.
