We are starting the New Year with a little run of freezing weather; lows in the 25˚F range at night.

1/1/13 - Soaked seeds 24+ hours, put into seed starting mix (BG, peat and perlite mix). The temp in the grow shelf about 72 degrees, the dome trays about 84 degrees.

Hi Paul... playing "ketchup" today... It's nice to see some color in your chinenses and everything podding up. Shane was saying he had around 70 days from flower to maturity for his Manzanos. Is that your experience as well?

My Manzano and two Rocoto's are also in full sun and look horrible with no flowers or pods.  Lesson Learned.  Your pods look great BTW

Yup...cheese cloth. I have used it for years! Works great. A few clothes pins to hold it in place and for a few bucks you have some shade!

Things are looking really NICE.I was looking at "shot gunned" leaves when mine were that size(the new shiny sharp vigorous looking up and comers that now know,IT IS THEIR TIME!)from white moths.Its one of my favorite times , when they've gathered strength,have enough roots and leaves to really get going.Your 7's are lookin gnarly ...must take a lot attitude to get em to do that in your latitude!

I'm mustering, but the 40 days of nice weather haven't hurt a bit!
It is fun to watch them really start to get it in gear.

my plants due to my own carelessness      Shows one never gets too
old to be stupid      Anyway, no need for condolences.  It was a mishap

I still have 2/3 of my grow (the round one plants).  It was round two
and three plants and OW's that took the hit.  With that in mind, started
some new seeds yesterday with the idea of wintering over some of the
varieties that like the greenhouse in winter.  And a couple of annum
ornamentals, since they seem to OW well:

fast and entering flowering mode.  The ruler is 24" tall,
so the plant seems to be about 32-33" tall:

The plants that lived through Black Sunday are all doing great. 
Very happy with what is going on.  Every plant has entered podding
phase, so now it's just the waiting game.

You're right, Rick.  The round one plants are really starting to get it on.  
Hoping for another 8 weeks or more of good grow weather  
 
Your grow (and glog) are over the top, buddy.  Last time I looked it was
heading for 90 pages!

No bouncing back from this one, my friend.  The 2-4-D was on the plants
for over 14 hours.  The top 6-8" of each plant were just hanging straight
down,  I just couldn't stand to see them die a slow death, so I cut them all
down and put them in the yard debris barrel.  I can't even compost the
plants themselves because of the spray, and even if the plats bounced back,
I wouldn't want to eat the pods.   I'm wondering if I need to replace
all the soil - would be close to 100 gallons.  The active substance is not
absorbed through the roots, only through the leaves, so I'm hoping I can
replant in those containers without swapping out the soil.

Yeah that will do it ....good old 2-4-D.... So I assume peppers are considered a broadleaf then Paul ?? That sucks bro ... At least it wasn't the lot. Where are theses other photos you promised anyway ??

Evidently.  The directions say tomatoes are very sensitive to it.  
And since peppers are Solanaceae (along with tomatoes, potatoes
and tobacco), I would assume the same goes for them, and they're
just talking about incidental overspray (2 parts per billion).  Since I
thought I was spraying kelp foliar, I made sure the plants got a good
coating.

 Man brother Paul . Sorry to hear about your mishap. I have had some insect issues take a few of mine and a bacterial wilt thing . Glad it only effected a small amount of your plants. Everything else looks very sweet and super healthy.

The one I use in the garden has GOOD STUFF written all over it.

Yeah, my spray bottles were clearly labeled.  Doesn't do much good if one doesn't read it!
 
I guess if you garden long enough stuff happens.

2-4-5-T is was the really nasty stuff ...apparently my dad used to come inside after spraying it and any plants or flowers inside used to be dead within a week. Mind you he is of the old breed ... Spray the weeds and forget about the safety aspects!!
