PaulG 2014

Grow List 2014 - Many new varieties and a few repeaters.
This is the third year of my original three year plan to grow a slew of different
types to see what grows well here before settling on some consistent performers.
I'd love to grow some of the new varieties from this season again, and some more
of my favorites from 2012, but not enough space.  But I have seed for my favorites for
season 2015, so I have something to look forward to already!

Major goal for season 2014 - lay in a good supply of super hot powder!

Just a quick update on the wild Texas Tepins.  This one has the most ripe pods; all will have to go to the greenhouse when and if I need space for starts in party cups:

Looking good Paul! Your plants whether big or small always look perfect.

Haven't been around much but have you started your aerogarden yet? I just had my first sprout in the aero  . A 7 pot lava. Can't wait to see the master( that being you sir)  show us how it's done.  :fireball:

Hey Paul, which aero do you recommend? Was looking on craigslist and got a little overwhelmed. Can you bring a plant to fruit with one of the larger models?
Hey, Adam. I bought the Aerogarden Extra model because it was on sale.
The Ultras are probably a lot more convenient and glitzy, but they are spendy
even on sale.  I think you want one with 6 or 7 ports just for efficiency's sake.
I didn't find many Extras on Craig's list before Christmas, so just ordered from
the company's web site.  For information from experienced users, Pinoy or
Denniz would be able to tell you a lot more than I.  I'll be hitting them up with
questions, for sure, as I get more into it.  Good luck in your search!

edit: forgot to answer your question.  I think if you do a lot of pinching and grow
smaller varieties that you can keep under 2', the answer should be yes.  Make
sure your aerogarden has the full 2' high lamp arm.

You view my grow with kind eyes, my friend!  Thank you for the good vibe, Jamie!

Allright, your off to an aerogarden career   :woohoo: !
How many days to sprout?

I'm feeling a little trepidation going into this.  Seems
fool proof, but I know I can circumvent just about any safeguard!
I just got mine set up today.  Am starting the seeds Shane sent
and a couple more:
Datil (from a pod you sent my first season - 2011!)
Mystery x Goat's Weed (your cross via Shane 2013)
Charapita (Shane 2013)
C. Galapagoense (Pr0digal Son via shane 2013)
Roco Pica (Pr0digal Son via Shane 2013)
C. Exile Chacoense (Pr0digal Son via Shane 2013)
Biedseye HTM (Trippa 2012)
We'll see what we'll see    ;)

Powered up and rarin' to go!

Wish me luck on this one!  At this point I'm more comfortable
with the Jiffy Pellets and Seedling Mix.  Jericson and Denniz
make it look so easy!  I can already see I want to come up
with something other than their 'grow sponges' and baskets.
I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to transplant out of them
after the plants grow out a smidgen.  I'm thinking a pinch or
two along the way to make the plants bushy.

What did you think about the process of getting it going, Jamie?
I probably should have started with some varieties that are easier
to germinate    I'll start the annuums in it when (if) these
are done

Looking good Paul!! Nice to see you got the Aerogarden running. I have a small advice... idk but when I researched and researched I never found how to exactly sow the seed... so what I do is I gently pierce the sponge so the seed can be in the sponge and not outside. I never had helmets, here's a pic if that helps. Idk what the other Aero users say, but that's what I do.

(I know it's a rapid rooter, I'm just running an experiment of my own but it's pretty much to show what I explained above.)

Aerogarden are so fool proof, just plug and play. Just watch the water level and you're good. Good luck brother!

Here's a pic of how mine grew, and way too fast but good. I'm hoping to get some nice ones out the aerogarden.

I wouldn't recommend the Aerogarden for "full" size plants. There's too much babysitting, in example you have to fill in the reservoir every couple of days. Yup they drink A LOT. Another thing is that the roots can clog the pump and you need to constantly check it. Another big thing is support, have to really check all that.

It's all perfectly doable, but it's too much babysitting. It's up to you really.

Thanks for the advice - their 'grow sponges' have a hole in them into which the seeds are supposed to go.  Seems kind of funky.  I was wondering if a guy could fashion something out of rockwool or the rapid rooters like you are showing.

That's good to hear, Walt!  But a little scary.  If I screw up I look like a real ditz
Thanks for the well wishes!

Looking good with the modern tech Paul! I'll be watching the results.

Have a great evening!

Mike
Sometimes I'm not sure about the 'modern tech' thing.
Dirt and water always worked pretty good    ;)

Thanks, buddy; hope you are gearing up for a great weekend!

These look almost like artificial plants

That's awesome growth, my friend.  I'm thinking that I will want to transplant
as soon as it looks like they are ready to hit the road in Spring/Summer.  I really
appreciate the heads up on these issues - what you say makes perfect sense!

The workbench is pretty cool too. Looks like it has seen a fair amount of work over the years. Looks like you try to keep it organized, you just have more stuff than places to put it. Looks like my workbench.
That is so true, Jeff.  And always several projects going on at once!

Here it is in all it's glory.  My 'Command Central'
Where all the 'magic' happens   :liar:

The HTM stands for Harbour town Market (local fresh fruit/vege market) where the originals were. I suspect they are some form of Thai variety. I strongly suspect Prik ki nu. However I stuck with birdseye HTM because I can't be certain

Thanks, Tristen.  I figured it was a market of some kind.
I'm looking forward to seeing the areogarden doing a nice job ob them!

We are heading to the Oregon Coast for the weekend - should be
spectacular storms brewing.  Last nights news said possibly 30' (a
shade less than 10m) waves sometime today and overnight to tomorrow.
Will try to grab a pic or two.  Wind gusts to 70mph (112kph) are possible,
so it may be dicey.

I'll leave you all with a picture of the Round One seedlings.
The Trinidad Scorpion is really a slow grower - hardly shows in the photo:
_DSC1098a_zpsbbb3e96d.jpg

I have transplanted 21 Jiffy pellets to 18 oz. cups over the past two days.
Should be photographable sometime next week.

I'll be back on the glog sometime Sunday.
Hope everyone has a great weekend of fun
messing with your pepper plants!
