PaulG 2020

This is for PtMD989. The Haskorea powder earns a place in a shaker!

Hey Paul.
Very interesting list and you keep em coming by the mail. Will be fun reading your glog for sure, just like every year.
When you're starting it, right after new years?

That's right, Uros. The chinese's and other long
season varieties will go into germination on Jan.1,
or close to it. Then the annuums around March 1.

I'm starting to rethink my grow with all the new
varieties, especially wilds. Too many choices!

I'm glad you will be following along!

Considering growing a half-dozen or so c. pubescens
in 2020, maybe as many as 8 or 10 depending.

Have decided on the two in bold font, but don't really
know much about the others. I imagine some are more
suited to a PNW grow than others. I'd like to have a nice
variety of the hairy ones. The three minis seem like fun.
Need something besides the larger reds.

**Red Rocoto F4 - descended from Peruvian seed
Mini Brown Rocoto - stettoman, CD
Costa Rica Red - stettoman
Arequipa Giant - stettoman, CD
Giant Yellow - stettoman, CD
Big Apple  - isolated, stettoman, CD
De Seda Yellow - stettoman
Turbo Pube - isolated, stettoman
**Ecuador Red - stettoman
Aji Largo Rojo - stettoman
Mini Red Rocoto - Semillas de Palma (awaiting package)
Mini Yellow Rocoto - Semillas de Palma (awaiting package)

I like your early choices of the Peru and Ecuador Reds.  Pretty much everything on that list is a solid pick IMO and will do great in the PNW.  The mini brown is a fun grow, but I find the pods to be bland and lacking in heat.  If I remember right, Stetto felt the same, so that might not be just the way they grew for me.

I have a few special rocotos earmarked for you, so maybe it's time to get a package sent before you make all your final choices. :)

Sounds good, brother. Are they wild Tepins?
Towing the tractor on a flat bed trailer?

BTW, If you're c. chacoense or Pequin don't pop
for you let me know and I'll send some more of the
late season pods which have been ripening in the
greenhouse.

Yeah, I'm really torn about what to plant this season.
I wish I had room for 100 plants (and a couple of
helpers  ;) )

I have an old 2004 k1500 and a 16' trailer with dual axles. The tractor is a 50hp JD 5103. I'll be the guy in the right lane pissing people off for 65 miles...LOL
55 is all I'll go as the truck has crap for brakes!  I will pick a slow time of day to bring it there.

I have both of those on the heat mat as I typo ;) Thanks for the replenish offer!

You know it freezes where he's at, and those wilds live regardless. I do hope they're still there. If not, I'll be hopping a few fences ;) :shh:

Thanks for the tip on the mini brown, CD. I don’t
require big heat, but I do like some flavor
Maybe they would make a good buffer in some
super hot chocolate powder

I won’t make my final decision until I see what
I have closer to years-end. Thanks for looking
out for me, my friend. You are most kind.

Haha Reminds me of driving in Southern/Eastern Oregon when
I was growing up!

Good vibes coming your way for those seeds in the germinator!

And good luck in the wild chili quest  :D

Wow, that is surprisingly flattering, seeing my nick repeated so many times!

Those Ecuadors are on the hotter end of the Rocoto spectrum, as they grew for me. A truly memorable pod. My 'PaulG Peruvian Red did not not do right by me, not due to the fault of the seed. I have leftover to try again though.

CD & I agree, the Mini Browns were neither hot nor remarkably flavorful, but yeah, to maintain a color they could work well as a heat buffer for another brown variety...

My De Sedas are flavorful and huge juicy but pretty mild compared to most Pubes I've grown...the rest on that list are fairly consistent re: Rocoto heat, meat & sweet...

<Hate that buddy. I will send you some more of the Peruvian Red seed >

The De Sedas sound like good stuffers!

Gotta say thanks again for all those c. pubescens seeds, buddy!
And for the tips.

Paul, I still have some seed you sent last season, it was simply late when the two that sprouted gave up the ghost and I had to choose whether to plant another so close to June  Those plants never really got out the gate well, kind of a Tiny Tim pair of runts. I should have paid a little better attention to them.

I am going to try again from that same (F3?) seed. I have another Peruvian Red, an OW, that performed nobly for me, so the variety does like it here.

Received my order from Semillas de Palma yesterday.
Order placed on Nov. 24th, so 15 days start to finish.
Not too bad.

Who-hoo!

Just about time to finalize my choices for next season!
Maybe I should just draw seed packets at random from
a sack! Save some second thoughts every time I
decide on a variety I want to grow!

You have such a variety to choose from.
Thanks to THP friends like you!

Or you could just up your grow to 800 plants.

  That's not even funny, Joe

I am really struggling to keep it to 50 plants
in 2020.
