Anytime Jamie Son.

Mr. Squatch and Stc- Thanks for dropping in guys (you too beehunter!) If I pulled off all the leaves like that I think I would be left with 30% of my leaves on most plants. Some are not affected at all. But I will have to take pictures of my Long Chocolate Habanero because all three are doing really well but one of them shot up this stalk a little higher than the rest of the plant and the leaves are all dark green, dry and gnarly. I did take off leaves from numerous sample plants and none had any bugs....so that is good. Now next I'm calling my local agricultural co op and seeing what they have to say or if they can come out and text my soil and take a look at my plants....if they don't or can't, I will just keep treating them step by step until the end of the season....bring it on mother nature and your fucked up ways of growing!!!! I've got the good fight in me.

Well, I guess I will update my home grow today. How ya'll doin'? It's hot out, it's dry and I need a damn pepper to eat....but tomorrow is Independence day! So get out our grills, gather your friends and family, crack some cool ones and celebrate the red, white and blue. I don't have plans yet but I'm sure something will pop.

So I've been ferting with Xnutrients Grow and Micro....I switched to Bloom and Micro and I am foliar feeding with Liquid Mexican Guano 0.8-0.5-0 the plants seem to really like it.

I'm starting to get a lot of pods setting. Two plants haven't set any pods yet but the other 4 have multiple pods. They are going to give me some good harvests I think. Thank god for that because my other grow is pathetic....lol....kinda...more like ltc...."laugh then cry" hahahaha

I really like the way the TS Moruga Scorpion is growing. All the plants keep getting bigger and bigger. I'm loving it, it soothes the soul :)

Here's some pictures for you Pod Porn Loving Fools! (we need help......)

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!!!

Let the pod porn begin.

This is my TS Moruga (I've got about 5-6 on the plant now, this is the biggest)
GardenPics010.jpg

This is my Trinidad Perfume. (It has around 7-`10 pods I think)
GardenPics011.jpg

GardenPics012.jpg

Not sure what this is, I'm going to have to look back in the Log.....lol.
GardenPics015.jpg

This is the mystery pepper from the Fresh Market. These plants have turned into nice little bushes and I believe will provide a ton of pods!
GardenPics016.jpg

My nephew and an over view of all the pepper plants I have :)
GardenPics017.jpg

GardenPics018.jpg

Figured I'd toss in some tomato action for you non heat growers...they are beasting. I had to put a cage up for one of the branches today lol

Lookin good man! Its really really hard to take care of a garden thats not at your house. My plants at my moms and my plants at home are noticeably different. I was just staring at that pic of that yellow bhut man for like literally 5 minutes. That is one of the sickest, meanest looking peppers I've ever seen! Happy 4th bro.

Happy 4th man! I can't believe you grew a kid and a dsi! You should probably plant more of those. Yeah. Definitely.

I noticed I had a few more of those leaves on a plant today. I'm watching to see what you find out.

mites
.... get a handscope...look near the main leaf vein on the underside...spray an aact or miticide of your choice...

or get some predator mites...they will knock it out...

other than the mite pics you posted, your garden is kickin ass! Grow on king! handsome kid!

@Pepper-Guru - I did buy a handscope (60xZoom) There's no bug issue going on. I took samples from numerous plants. I am starting to believe it is a deficiency in Calcium. I believe the plants are having a hard time with Nutrient uptake. I am going to give them some CalMag+ over the next week and see what happens. Otherwise I am going down the road of "Disease".

I am going to call my local Co op and see if there is anything they can do to help in the form of knowledge. Sometimes they will come out, look at your plants and test the soil. We will see. Step by step bebe! I'm not going to let this get the best of me. It's really done nothing but good things for my knowledge and experience in growing these temperamental beauties.

And as always I will keep everyone up to date with any information that I find out. Thanks for stickin' around my grow log with me and thank you for all the new comers to my page.

UPDATE: POD PORN. Here's some pictures of a few peppers on the plants at my buddies.

PS. We have a few White bullet Habaneros going. They are starting to push out some pods. There were around 4 small ripe ones. My buddy jumped right in and tried one with me (he has no tolerance for heat...he really doesn't eat anything hotter than Japs....but he popped one in! It burnt him up good...lol his eyes were watering, he went and grabbed milk (but didn't act like a baby lol) it lasted for a while for him. Afterwards he said "man that does give you a rush, now I see why you eat these peppers" It was great. My buddy Jeremy is the best, he won't leave me hanging there being the only pepper head with no one to share the joys with.)

Two Pics of another one of my Yellow Bhuts (The only ones on the plant....lol)

Datil
GardenPics023.jpg

Aji Lemons
GardenPics024.jpg

These are some Douglahs that I took off and threw out...(I know it's unspeakable....lol) They were immature, stunted and the plant is not healthy enough to keep them on the plant. It need to get some more veg growth on and get better before it can support pods. They were so green they would have tasted like ass. (I've tasted a few green pods and other than ones that are supposed to be eaten green....they are disgusting)
GardenPics025.jpg

this is my lone Tepin.....lol
GardenPics026.jpg

Mondo Ancient Sweet
GardenPics027.jpg

Yellow Scotch Bonnet that has been hanging on this plant for a month and done nothing......why will you not ripen!!!!
GardenPics028.jpg

and last but not least.......I don't know....hahahahaha. It isn't labeled...but it's getting bigger by the day.

I had the same
Problem with my yellow mushroom. Pod was the same size and color for weeks til last week. Now it's completely orange. Let's see if it turns yellow. Keep it up

Denniz

HEY man, been following your log for awhile. Always like watching fellow IL growers. Your yellow bhut looks awesome, it's the one variety I'm trying to find the "perfect" one of this year. I have 7 or 8 yellow bhuts going from a 3 different sources but no pods yet. If yours grows true would love to connect and swap seeds if you're game. Keep up the good fight and grow on!

Nice pod shots brother. Things are looking good for the issues you've had. Last year I had a mite,or nutrient issue. I never really could put my finger on it til winter when I had a couple plants inside. That is when I saw broad mites for the first time. Words don't explain how small those things are. I am no expert ,but that looks exactly like the damage they cause. Good luck and keep fighting.

Peppergrowingman-hey, thanks for checking our grow out. Where are you at in this great flat state of ours? Of course I am always up for helping a fellow grower out. I'll let you know when they are done.

P-Son- I am going to have to take another look as a lot of you have said it looks like broad mite damage. I have a 60x hand scope. I have looked at the underside of the leaves along the vein...Im going over there tomorrow. I will let you all know what I find out.

Going to start feeding them se CalMag+ with a delivery agent. So we will see! It's a journey...what fun would it be if I got there in a straight line...

Cool, thanks. I'm out in the Rockford area. I have about 30 plants going this year...have high hopes for the yellow bhuts, caramel bhuts, peach bhuts and peach habalokia 2's. Would be happy to hook you up with any of my seeds and if you need any powders/flakes just say the word, I have more right now than I will use in a lifetime :-)

Pepper Guru has it nailed.
Spray with an insecticidal soap before it totally cripples your plants. I've had horrific mite damage this year, to the tune of it cause -effecting total loss of all leaves on many plants, and several severely damaged plants. I'm in a new growing area and have just been ravaged this year. (That and it seems most of the plants I got form Cross Country Nurseries are stunted and just refusing to grow at all. So much for scotch bonnets and red habs this year)
That damage you see is on the new growths yes? If it was a deficiency in fertilizers you would see that pattern repeated more frequently though all of the plant, not just the tender tips.

I'm saying the word PGM....lol. I am in need of powder bad. Im about on my last leg. PM me about it. Also I'm interested in those caramel Bhuts! They sound awesome! I also extend the same invitation to you. Although I don't have any powder, I will have some pods and seeds (non-isolated that is) soon enough. Cool to find people so close.

mites dont still need to be there....thats mite damage dude...trust

Do you have any recommendations (Brand wise) for this insecticidal soap? You know I'm still a noob trying to make it in this big bad world.....lol. Thanks for letting me know. I thought that actually yesterday. I was looking at the plants and I'm like...well what if they got everything they needed from those leaves and moved on. Maybe I need to look at leaves that are not looking that way yet. I will do that tonight....or maybe tomorrow. Depends on when I can get over there. Stupid ass bugs. I just put the blame on other things because my soil is so horrible this year (which I'm fixing in the fall) and when I didn't find any mites...I just moved on to it being something else causing it.

UPDATE: Figured I would update the homegrown again. Since things are going so well here! hahahahaha.....god at least something is going right....makes it a little more bearable.

First up isssssssss Trinidad Purfume
GardenPics036.jpg

Next is my beautiful TS Moruga
GardenPics037.jpg

Not sure what this is....I'm thinking it is what was supposed to be my Peach Bhut...yup! Now I know, because the plant at my friends house was supposed to be a Peach Bhut and it is the same kind of pepper...lame...I was looking forward to that one....oh well. This one is growing pretty cool.
GardenPics039.jpg

This is either a Red Habanero or one of the mystery plants I sowed the seeds from the Fresh Market.
GardenPics038.jpg

Cherry Hots gone Wild! Tons of pods on this small plant. Can't wait for them to ripen.
GardenPics040.jpg

Pepper Alley, It's hot outside.....but it's hotter...in there. lol

I went over to TweakSairaxx's house lastnight, he showed me around his garden and greenhouse. He has some really cool stuff going on. A lot of exotics, some really cool rare South American vegs. I love that he has a dozen lizards roaming in his Greenhouse...it's awesome! We could only find one though. He also has a lot of reptiles (snakes, lizards, tarantula's) Too much stuff to get into. Go to his Glog and yell at him for an update...he doesn't keep up with it....shame, he has so much stuff to see. Anyways he gave me these plants because he didn't have room for them and they were just going to die. So I took them and bought a 17GL container. Potted them all in it for what I like to call my "Pepper Potluck" I've also planted some Organic Cilantro, Chives, Marigolds and Alyssum(ground cover) (all those are seeds.) We will see how this little project turns out! I'm excited for it. (I will list what types they are later, I have to go out and look at the labels....lazy!)

Hey dude,

Your garden's on a roll!
Nice pod production, and that's how the "Yellow Bhut" should look.........for those that have the "smooth shaped pods"
In ground plants are the way to grow if you have the space and appropriate soil............and you do, cause the photo's prove it.............nice
Tweak brought over a "Voodoo" plant which amongst some tropicals that I moved outdoors share space in my hot tub enclosure......the extra humidity does wonders.
Hey King, keep those pod photos coming....

Greg

Ey Pic, thanks! I don't know about all that "good soil" talk.....lol they are growing in my jacked up garden! Hahahahahaha they do look wicked I will say. I can't wait to taste one. Saving seeds from that one for sure. The voodoo Lilly has a tendency to lean. Mine was leaning like crazy, so I propped it up. Some how the stem kinked in the middle....it's still living but I was thinking of cutting it at the kink and using some cloning gel on it (with some other root growth stimulators) and see what happens. Wish I could have come down and seen your monstrous grow.

I've got a few other things to share.

http://www.microbeorganics.com/

This is a great read. It gives a great example of how plants use nutrients and the differences between chemical and organic applications. It has pushed me to advance my organic growing techniques.

I went out last night and got the materials for an AACT setup. Going to start experimenting. I'm stoked.

These are two of Tweaksairaxx's reptiles...first is a monitor. Second pic, I don't remember...lol maybe he will magically grace the pages of my Glog and fill us in.

What an awesome update man! Tons of fun to read bro. Pods should be coming all this week with the weather were about to have  Good luck with the AACT man!

There are various recipes out there for soaps you can make yourself, and I used to do that in the past till this year. My reliable standby of some dawn in a pray bottle with water caused problems. However if you get any decent garden centers about your areas they should have it. There are a few brands but if you have a Home Depot in your area http://www.homedepot...1&storeId=10051 is what I grabbed.
Its organic and you can use it to the day of harvest. I'm not totally positive on it's effectiveness as it will take some time for new growth to arrive but this stuff has a decent reputation.
I highly recommend this because it is not toxic to you. While I don't quite share Pepper Gurus totally in organic growing (Ive used Seven Dust stuff this year, in heavy dosages) I feel that you should be as organic as possible the closer you are to harvest. I refuse to use any sort of toxic substance closer than 30 days to harvest in most plants. (Peppers you have a bit of wiggle room as they don't have hidden spots like say.. your damned cabbages. They are easier to clean up when you harvest them)
The non toxic part is also useful because liquid pesticides absorb more easily in to the skin. With Mites you want to lift the leaves and get the undersides of them, and it is a messy process.

You complain about your soil, provided your not having drainage issues it looks like your plants love it. A total overhaul may not be needed, just mix in some well composted.. anything and you should be okay. What I do every year is till in (Or turn the soil over) with lawn clippings and lawn mowered leaves in the fall after the harvest. In spring I mix in actual compost and call it good. However if you notice specific problems form a lack of something I would follow up with a soil test. Your local county should have info of where you can send it, or google it. That way if you do it now, you have time to plan on what to add to your soil because they will give you specific profiles of what your soil has in it.
If your missing calcium for example, in the fall after the harvest you can mix in a hearty amount of bone meal, that way it has some time to start breaking down and leaching in to the soil by planting time next year.

Thanks Jamie Son! (Hope you don't mind my nick for ya...lol) I just got done at your glog!

UPDATE: For everyone else, I posted a link for a good read in my last post but here is another that I really like. Enjoy.

http://www.teravita.com/Humates/Chapter2.htm

Obsidian- Thanks a lot man! I'm starting to go as organic as possible and if I could feasibly reach 100% Organic I would. It is extremely hard though. I think it is something that this world really needs to push towards. Only because, I feel that if mother nature controlled it for thousands of years, we shouldn't need chemicals to fight it either. If we do, I think it is because we have caused it to be this way. Just my opinion though...and you know how those go.

Thanks for stopping by with the good information. You are welcome anytime (and I don't have an issue with people having differing opinions, I welcome them)

Time to put some moves on these bugs and give them a proverbial squashing!
