Nice harvest shot! Seems like just yesterday you were setting up Plant Hollywood (I think that's what you called it).

In regards to the soil - what is your goal for overwintering? I ask because with mine I am hoping for a long dormant period and to get them to start up in the spring not too long before I get them outside. If that's the case you don't have to worry about nutrients so much. If you plan on growing through the winter than you have a whole host of concerns: soil, a lot of lighting, aphids and mites. Due to the cost of dealing with these concerns, I decided it was easier to have the plants go to sleep and bring them back in a few months. Also, I think getting pods out of inside plants in the mid west during the winter will be challenging, so you just have to ask if that's what you want. If you don't care about getting pods, then I think it really makes sense to have them go dormant. Finally, if you decide to grow through the winter, a cheap and easy suggestion in regards to the nutes - put the plants in the soil and see what happens. You know the soil won't be poisoned. So just watch for signs of nutrient deficiency, if you see that, give them a broad spectrum fertilizer and observe some more. Simple and potentially low cost.

Hey Andy, we are planning on putting them to sleep for the winter or if anything, very slow minimal growth. I wouldn't mind cutting a little back here and there. I really don't know how much light it takes to keep them alive VS. the point were they actually start growing again. Right now I've cut them all back (which I'm going to post pics here in a sec) and they are up in the loft underneath 4 T-5 bulbs which equals out to 11,000 lumens at 2750 a sqft. (at one foot from the top) each bulb is 2750 lumens across a 4ft fixture. So I really think it is going to be a trial and error thing here. I have no idea what I'm doing, I figure after what I put some of these plants through this year, it doesn't matter what I do to them, they are going to live lol

I'm taking your advice and just seeing what happens with the nutes. If need be, I will give them some AACT in a couple weeks. It is going to be quite interesting this winter.

Is the soil from an indoor grow or outdoor? If it's outdoor, watch for pests. Otherwise I agree with Pulp.

The plants were outdoors. I basically dug up about 1 gallon of root ball and potted them up in some used potting mix (from an indoor grow) in 3 gallon containers. So I will be watching out for bugs. I'm just going to have to say my prayers and eat all of my vegetables like a good boy.

UPDATE:

So the garden has been pillaged and left to the elements of their soon to be impending doom. 11 survivors are all trimmed back and potted up into 3gallon containers, brought out of the cold and into the loft. It is our first year at overwintering and should be a blast. To be honest, I think it will be like staring at a freshly painted wall, waiting for it to dry...lol but I am excited for it. I'm sure there will be much to do as we get reorganized and make some modifications for the coming growing season. I mean really it's only a couple months away before we get to start some seeds again. (actually, I already started six new ornamental varieties to try and have around for the winter time... :shh: )

This winter we are looking into getting a new grow light, prob. a 400W or 600W HID. My only concern is if I will have enough room above the plants to actually be able to use an HID. From floor to ceiling is 4ft. The light will be vented but I need to research (or anyone can fill me in) how far away the light can be from the plants before it starts to burn them up. I mean, I figure that as long as I'm not putting more than what the sun produces per square foot, then I should be fine. If I can't then we will be looking into either LED or a husky row of compact flouro's.

I've got a question for you guys and I believe I will post this in another thread for the I.Ding of some peppers I have. I planted 5 Naga Morich's this season, all from the same seed. 2 of them turned out Red, 1 of them turned out Orange, one turned out with Brown pods and the last one turned out yellow...lol Now the plants and pods IMO all grew and look alike. (with minor variation that comes with a season of growing) Some of these yellows have a slightly different look to them. In any case you guys can give me your opinion on what you think they are. I'm still going with Naga Morich but if anything I think that it could have crossed with a yellow scorpion? Idk

Here's some pics of the overwintering and pods.

When I have my 250w HID in an air cooled reflector, I can have it literally on top of the canopy. Rule of thumb, place you hand under the light. If it's too hot for you it's too hot for the plants.

Nowadays I use an open reflector, but I keep a thermostat hooked up to my exhaust level with the canopy. Keeps everything a nice 77 degrees.

That final harvest is awesome. David! Good work.

Will you prune the OWs back more, or let them grow
out from where they are now? I'm letting my OWs stay
outside in their pots for now, since the weather is mild.
Lows on 40's highs in mid 50's. Balmy Hallowe'en!
I'll prune them a bit more when new growth starts to appear.
I'm thinking of putting them in Coco Choir for the winter
unless I find a batter alternative for the OWs.

Good luck with the grow shed modifications!

Thanks Scratch. I wasn't concerned about the temperature, I was concerned with too many lumens a sqft. I plan on getting an air cooled baffle and exhausting it out the roof. Guess that's why god invented trial and error!

Hey Pauly, I'm OWing them just like they are pictured unless something goes wrong. If they are too big to sustain themselves or whatever the case may be. I figure I'd like to have them right at the brink of being dormant. I want to see a little growth, nice and slow. Or really I just don't want to see them dead lmao. I am OWing in a coco coir mix (Sunshine Advanced Mix #4) The containers are three gallon and the plants are no more than 15 inches tall. I have 4 T-5's on them now (2750 lumens a piece 6500k) Thanks for the well wishes! Good luck to you as well sir! I'm sure we will be bouncing info and results all winter long lol

Great looking final harvest! You have a nice assortment there.

Thanks Stefan, we're happy with the outcome of the season. Not what we imagined at the beginning (you know the dillusions of grandeur) but a success none the less. Pretty cool to be looking into the next season already. A lot more experiments to come!

UPDATE:

So I've taken that "Yellow Naga Morich" split it in half and have pics for you guys. I also ate it lol. It has a very strong C. Chinense aroma, more so than others. It wasn't packed with placenta which is familiar to the Naga's I've opened up. It had a wonderful flavor. Strong but without the bitter tones. Not as much floral as it was tart. Very tasty pepper. Has to be my second favorite super now. The heat level felt like it was around a Red Savina, although the plant these came off of struggled all season and I'm sure put out sub par peppers. It has potential to be a scorcher I'm sure (should I say more so than it was tonight, as peppers can vary quite a bit) I have a few more of them, I will inspect another and see if I can't go into anymore detail.

Here's my new project for the fall/early winter months. I am expressing the recyclist within lol. This egg carton has six varieties in it. I want to try and have some awesome ornamental plants for Christmas/New year's time.

+Red Missle
+Purple Puru
+Explosive Ember
+Firecracker
+Sweet Tangerine Dream
+Tri-Color Veriegata

This and the overwintering/shed mods. will keep this glog alive long through the winter! :hell:

The yellow pods are a 7/Pot variant.........not a Morich by no means. Looks cool though...
Nice job with the overwinters.

I went to HD and they dont have anything called coco choir. I went to two of them. All they carry is MG. Sucks. oh and Vigara organic. I guess we are to citified to carry good stuff in our HD's

Hey Greg, thanks for the info, I wanted to go that way but the fact that I grew 5 plants from the same seed and 3 came out red, one came out Brown and one came out yellow...that it was a naga M. Now that I think of it, none of the other 4 plants had the flower squeeze at the bottom. I wonder if the brown pods are NM's....oh well.

Hi Sanarda, I've never seen Coco Coir in home depot either. Have to go to a garden center or grow store for that I guess (or online) Homedepot does sell some decent soils though. I've gotten ProMix Organic Blend from there. They also sell some other 2-3cuft bails of other mixes that are OMRI approved. The only reason I have a soiless growing medium that has Coco Coir in it, is because it was given to me. Otherwise, I've been buying Potting soil, a bag of mushroom compost and a bag of perlite. I mix it together and then feed with AACT's. This was just the cheap route I've taken. It costs around 9.50 for around 3cuft.

UPDATE:

Well guys, I chopped and slopped the last harvest onto the dehydrator last night. I seeded a few varieties before throwing them on though. I would like to offer them to any of you that read my glog first. (you have to have left a comment previously) I've got 70-100 seeds of each variety. They are all OP'd for your fair warning. I've taken a picture of the pod whole and halved. Let me know if anyone wants any. I will offer them here until Wednesday, after that I'm going to offer them in the Marketplace for nubes. If you want any (10 of each, as many types as you want) just send me a SASBE or SASE, with postage and I will pack it up and send them on their way. You can either post here or send me a PM. They will be ready to go in about a week. Should be good timing if anyone sends out in the next few days. My address

alright, that's all of the ones I felt like seeding. Let me know guys and gals, otherwise I'll be posting some updates soon!

My prayers go out to all of those in the path of Hurricane Sandy. Stay safe and keep us updated on your well being!

Lovin' the Long Chocolate Hab. I had never seen pics of one yet, but had some seeds from Ajijoe, so I had sowed some. Got sprouts. Now I'm really looking forward to growing these out!

Like Stefan said, you had a great grow this year. Looking forward to whatever else you come up with this year and your 2013.

You definitely had a great grow this year, and I enjoyed looking at the pics. I'm looking forward to seeing what you are up to in 2013!

Thanks Stefan, there will be plenty of crazy stuff goin' on soon enough lol. I can't wait.

Those LCH's took a long time to pod up and ripen, I was surprised. They are worth the wait though. I don't know if the grow time I got is normal or not though. I took one to OW, I'm really curious to see how they all come out.

2013, I'll have some stuff going on all through the end of this year too!

Hope the choco's turn into monsters for ya!

Bad news-My new flat of 72 that was supposed to replace the seedlings that fried in the sun....the soil was sitting at a chilly 108 degrees. (Don't ask me why, the other trays did great with the greenhouse dome on. Only thing different is these were sowed in Pro-Mix) So I need to start another flat.

Good news- I potted up the 42 of 72 remaining cells into Solo cups tonight. They all look happy. The root growth was better than I though it was going to be and I'm thinking might be why the slowed growth. (It's not a spider web, but I am using cheap Jiffy seed starting mix from Walmart) I'm hoping to see some real good growth in the next 5-10 days.

I plan to start feeding with Alaska Fish Fertz with the next watering. I will also be making some changes to the lighting. Things are moving along a little better. A lot of bumps in the road but I'm working through them as they come.

Brain Strain Pics (100% germination rate by the way. Thanks Cappy!)

I know you made this post a long time ago, but I realized that I missed the start of your grow so I read through the early part of your glog. This set of pics really caught my attention because the seedlings all look great, and it made me wish time would fast forward to Feb/Mar so I can start planting again. I love how you created your own setup and worked through any issues that came up on your own. Very skillfully done, my good man!

(I had to chop some pics out of this reply because I got a message squawking about posting too many pictures)

Hey King,

You say "long" choc hab`s, is that diffrent from normal choc habs then? and dont say there longer its a serious question. ;) Ive got a choc hab growing away here & then saw you wording "long" so was just curious.

That harvest looks awesome buddy, you should cut the top of that dogs dick chilli & pretend your smoking a pipe (new avatar?) Go one better & get a moncle, bowler hat, stick on mo & you would the the landed gentry of THP.

Thanks Stefan, I didn't do it all by myself, I did a lot of research and asked questions all along the way....aughhhh the beginning...it seems so far away. There were many bumps along the way but they make you learn quickly, I'm glad they happened.

Mezo.

Mezo....but they are longer!...hahahahahaha. They have a very unique shape and they are pretty large pods. I'm not sure about the flavor or if the plant growth looks the same from a choco hab to a long choco hab because I've never grown the regular ones. Theirs a picture of the long chocolate hab above, if you want to see it.

I might just do that too, except then I'd have to say "and in this picture, I have a dogs dick in my mouth"......lmfao

Im not even going there Dave (Dog`s Dick) ive got a warning point already. LoL

Hey, have you ever watched Animal Farm as a kid?

Mezo. (cluck, cluck cluck)

A warning point! NO, not you! Behave Mezo, THP would lose cool points if you got booted for verbal molestations of other members.....but then again, I like to laugh.

To be honest, I don't remember much of my childhood.....So I'll go with yes?
