These postings make me want to get a new geetar.

I finally lugged out my 6262 and have been causing cracks in the drywall for a week or two now.

What are your settings on your 6262?

Well, I need a new volume pot in my ESP. Been scratchy for a while and it is just getting worse. Also thinking about doing an 18v mod for my EMGs as well.

Alrighty, so I grabbed the parts today to modify the EMG 81/60 in my ESP from 9v to 18v. For those that aren't familiar with the EMG 18v mod, it adds extra headroom, gives them more of an organic feel and a little extra high mids. Yes, EMG pickups are designed to handle 18v. In fact, they are designed to handle up to 27v.

So far I am really enjoying it. The difference is extra clean headroom, a more organic tone, definitely boost in high mids and the harmonics absolutely leap out at you. It may not be for everyone, but for $3 you can pick up the parts at Radio Shack to make a reversible mod to try it out. I wish I had a decent mic and recording software to get a good recording for comparison.

Errr, okay. Whatever you say. I wouldn't know. My EMG equipped Schecter doesn't do cleans. I have a Strat for the cleans.

EMG cleans can be an acquired taste and some do cleans better than others. Amp selection makes a big difference as well. 81 and 85 probably aren't the best for cleans, but the 60 I have in the neck position has excellent cleans and this is where I can tell the biggest difference with my 18v mod. Absolutely crystal clear with a nice sparkle. Not all EMGs are metal oriented pickups, either. David Gilmour has used EMGs in his some of his Strats and that is about as far away from metal as you can get.

I have 9V actives EMG'rs on my strat S-S-H. That shit is CLEAN on the neck (60's)........@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have any room for another battery though (it's in the trem cavity, hard tailed it with 4 springs), the H is 80 or 81. forgot which

Umm, EMG 60 is a humbucker. Your single coils are most likely SA's. I'd be willing to bet your bridge humbucker is either an 81 or 85. Is it middy or have more of a scooped mid tone? 81 has more of a scooped mid tone and the 85 has more mids.

Sweet Ibanez! I have always wanted a Joe Satriani model but then I stop and think why?
He is "Not of this world" so I don't think I can mimic his playing very close. :banghead:

Have you played a JS model? Those necks are so comfortable! They have considerably more meat to them than the JEM/RG style Wizard necks, which are incredibly thin and flatter than Kansas. I wish they offered the JS in a set neck or neck through.

I've always tuned to drop D/drop C. I got bored and threw a 7 string set on my ESP the other day minus the high E and tuned down to drop B... Where have you been all my life?! Running it through that Bugera 6262. Never has my guitar sounded better. They were made for each other!

Guess I need to finish up my frankenstrat so I can tune to saner tunings.
