Purple Thunder / Bhut Jolokia x (PdN x Bonda Ma Jacques)

I have decided to start a dedicated Grow Log for
the Purple Thunder Bhut Jolokia hybrid.

It made its first appearance in 2015:
"This coloration might be the result of the intense
light on these red Bhuts, but only 2/6 show the trait.
If it is a cross, the only purple-y plant near the bhut
was Trippa's Mystery Cross. All of these seeds from
the same pod:"

This is chinense x (chinense x annuum) right Paul? 75-25 chinense heavy lol. I think I remember reading that pdn was annuum.
I just looked it up, Andy. Most sites say it is a cross between
an unknown c. annuum and a c. chinense. So I guess it's a
chinense x (chinense x (chinense x annuum))  Yikes!

And then if we throw in the frutescens...

(chinense x frutescens) x (chinense x (chinense x annuum))

  Good Lord!

PaulG, I am already trying to make plans for what I will grow with the new Purple thunder pepper.  I have been picking tons of thai hot peppers for the freezer and for sure will grow them again as they are fairly mild in flavor and will be good mixed with Purple thunder for hot sauce.  I will also grow sweet Chinense peppers to throw in with them as well.  I am a novice so I can't go full-out straight Purple Thunder hot sauce.  Or, maybe I will make pure Purple Thunder hot sauce and just mix some of it with other recipes to adjust the flavor.  Kind of like how they make Scotch Whiskey?

I am approaching the beginning of the dry season.  Plants will need to be planted in the shade of the tree's.

Can't wait.

Those BJH-4's look pretty nice!  They all do actually.

I didnt realize BJ had frutenses in it, the ones ive grown definitely seemed chinense to me.
Wikipedia has a great article on the Bhut Jolokia - nomenclature,
regional variations, etc. They list it as a chinense x frutescens.

Straight up these would make a blazing hot sauce. I think
your idea of using them to add heat to other sauces, or
using the pure sauce in a blended fashion are good ideas.

I'm not sure there are many people who would could tolerate
a pure Bhut hot sauce except in small doses.

I should be able to send seeds out starting end of this week.

I have seeds from all the Purple Thunder plants ready to send out.
I have other seeds available for trade/sharing as well - see my profile.

Be sure to look at the pix here. I am happy to send the varieties you
want to try. Let me know what exactly you want.

Hey, Gary, good to see you on the forum!

Thanks Paul, had a few pods from the white plant but nothing from the violet one, it's been a strange season for us this year the summer wasn't much to shout about.

It's all good, brother!

There are a few in your packet I'm
looking forward to, as well!

My pleasure, Joe. Looking forward to seeing how they do for you.

Excited for the new season!

Pretty good postal service to Belgium,

Gorgeous pods! Looking forward to seeing the forum explode with 'em when people start growing these out.

I have sent these to 27 folks, so there should be at
least a few  showing up. I hope people will post their
results in this thread, like we have done with the PdN x BMJ.

Still thinking about your ''seasonings'!
