randyp SW Iowa 2015 not corn grow.

Time to knock the dust off the keypad and practice with the camera I got at the end of last season. My seed list is ready but still needs taken down a bit.I will say (judy) is going to have her own section in my garden and Hence forth shall be stated in my updates as(The Judy Wing). Also I have some seeds from my good buddy Dew(thanks Scott). One more shout out to Chris(Joyners powders friggin rock)as I will be introducing his ""Mystery Wine""to some good old dark Iowa soil.
Alabama Jack, your puree basic recipe is the one I now will be using to preserve peppers for sauces that I don't dry, send to our friends on this site or torment my people at the factory with. It's so simple that I can move your numbers up or down and get the same results.I will be doing a better job this year on weights and measurements to not only help me but anyone checking in so if they see something I need to adjust,we have accurate numbers to go by.
Starting nursery first week of March, plant out date first week of May.
All will be from seed this year.My first two years I bought some live plants, after I did my first start with seeds last year,I found they were more prepared and thrived because they had been in my control from the start.I do think highly of"chiliplants"and would send anyone looking for a healthy plant or new types to consult them.
I look forward to watch other glogs,as we fight the weather, bugs, and other thing's the Wrath of God sends our way.
   Good luck to all.
 Randy
P.s
If I can get my seed from the "Growdown"to be as tall as the corn here I will be a happy man.

Puree --
2100 gr  peppers
1260 ml wht,vinegar
2tbls sea salt
7tbls honey

I found my new roaster perfect for this,as i ruin more pans trying to cook on a burner.(get a good one)
Use nothing but plastic utensils,I set temp at 275 degrees and adjusted up or down according to my simmer.
cooked down just a bit not 1/3rd for this batch.I am still toying with what works for me.
Waterbath jars. This made 3qts and 1pt(i will never, never cook puree or any heavy on the peppers stuff in the house again.lesson learned.)

Plants are looking great! I second the ease of watering with a drip system. Mine is on a timer but i've been manually kicking it on this year for a lot less time than I ran last year. Last year was 10min twice a day. this year i'm doing 5 min every few days depending on rain and how my Bolsa de dulce looks since that's the first plants to wilt. Second I see them wilting I kick the water on manual.

I thought Iowa was similar to Nebraska that all gardens where required by law to have at least one row of corn? lol

I spent a good portion of my life in Nebraska and that crap grows everywhere. Even the medians of the hwy.

Thanks for dropping in Micheal.I have a little leaf curl and all kinds of things I want to deal with, but I have learned to keep my hands off soil conditioners and any amendments for a week or so to see how the new growth is coming on.Luv the drip system and have not needed it for 2 weeks.
I was born in Omaha so I know all about flatlands, corn and no trees. All my buddies have sweetcorn going and I cant wait till its ready.;
my first buds of the year showed up overnight.LET THE GAMES BEGIN> :onfire:

Love the video Randy... Flowers! Most excellent! Your case (?!) of pork has me salivating too... Lots to like here! How do you like the repurposed water bottle "funnels" next to the plants for adding liquid nutes and supplemental water? Keep up the good stuff!

Glad to see ya stop in Joe.Mine and your prime growing weather is upon us.

Plants are showing signs of taking off! I like your idea of taking a pic from the same spot every week. It will be fun to flip through them at the season's end to see how things progressed. I hope the rain you got last night wasn't too disastrous. At least we have some warm temps finally to let our plants put it to good use!

Thanks for stopping in Carlton.Got 3.2 inches and still counting since Midnight.Have a twister on the ground 20 miles from here now.I will be on edge for 4 of the next 5 days.Hot weather brings these  storms every year. ;)

Good luck with the weather Randy.  Hopefully the bad storms pass you by.   I have a couple of plants growing from seeds from the pods you sent me last year.  They are growing nicely.

Growing things is all about learning and making adjustments. In my post 83# I ran string to a line above the plants.Well that does not compensate for rapid growth to keep the line with some tension.I have bypassed the hook and took string over top to another line attached to outside of beds. Not everyone trims up as much as I do,but it works for me.

Interesting that you trim so many of the side leaves from your peppers when you tie in your supports... does that stimulate side branching for you? Also, what kind of mulch do you have on top of your raised beds? I can't tell if it's wood, straw or a mixture. Cheers!

Good to see ya Rick.I have a growth spurt that will come in the next couple weeks that would  completely overtake anything below the fork.So this year I am just getting an earlier start on upkeep.I was made a firm believer from some on here not topping.I have a shorter season so after not topping last 2 years and having great results,I am sticking with it.Each plant will be judged on their own merit and some may be allowed to run new growth from the main stalk at the ground.I am using ceder mulch.Have the last 2 years and I like it.

First pepper of year showing,Large Orange Thai.no surprise.3 days earlier then last years june 21rst pod.
