RocketMan's 2013 Glog; In The House!!

There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments." -- Janet Kilburn Phillips

I love that quote and it will try my best to remember it through this new grow. So, I'm going with only 18 varities this year as we're looking at moving to a larger house if not buying this summer and I really don't want to have to try and haul a ton of plants when we do. the ones I've selected are:

1. 7 Pot Jonah---------------------------- Pic 1
2. Aji Lemon------------------------------- romy6
3. Chili De Arbol Negro------------------ smokemaster via SocalChilihead
4. Datil-------------------------------------- Pic 1
5. Fatalii------------------------------------ Pic 1
6. Gochu----------------------------------- Stickman
7. Red Savania--------------------------- Pic 1
8. Chocolate Habanero----------------- Pic 1
9. West Indian Yellow Habanero------ Pic 1
10. Jalabanero---------------------------- SocalChilihead
11. Jalapeno------------------------------- frydad4
12. Douglah-------------------------------- Pic 1
13. Peruvian White Habanero---------- ????
14. Scotch Bonnet Jamican Red------- Pic 1
15. Thai Short----------------------------- Lieban
16. Jamican Hot Chocolate------------- ????
17. Butch T-------------------------------- Pic 1
18. T Scorpion Yellow------------------- Pic 1

Here's the layout and they went into the dirt.

Alot of them are ones i started last year that never grew beyond a certain point and I'm pretty sure that a lot of it was my new grower mistakes. Since I really want to try them I'm giving them a grow again. Once again, thanks to everyone that helped me getting started with gifts of seeds and to all on here thanks for leaving your incredable words of wisdom that we can all learn from.

Cheers to a bountiful grow this year.

Just found that Lowes has Espoma Bio Tone and it has Mycos in it. So I might go with some of that.
Actually, for nightshades you might want to go with Espoma Tomato-Tone. It's formulated more for them rather than general garden health.

Nice little harvest this morning. The Thai Short hot continues to just kick out the peppers and the first Black Krim is ready

But what the heck is this

kind of looks like it was sitting on something as the skin is still there. I don't really think anything was eating on it but have not seen this before. Any thoughts?

That's blossom end rot, or BER. I get it too. It's caused by the plant not being able to take up calcium fast enough. Reasons can be many, too much nitrogen, uneven watering.

I usually see it on the bottom guys that set first. I was using calmag to try and off set it this year and it seemed to work well early. Then it went from 75-80 to 95-100 in one day and stayed there. And I then had trouble keeping them watered, then boom it started raining. Perfect conditions for BER. I wound up with BER on the middle maties of the plants. Never had that happen before.

As for using it...it's most likely a ruined matie...

Edit: I leave the BER's on the plant for bird bait. We have a huge problem with Mocking birds pecking the tomatoes, let them go after the ruined ones:)

You've gotta set yourself up some kind of irrigation system Bill. Living where you do it's a must... even if it's just a couple of soaker hoses on a timer. The other good part is that you can take it with you when you move.

Also, check your soil pH. Too alkaline and it locks out the other nutes. I found that one out this winter...

Picked up some gear from Walmart last night to set up for AACT. This was less than $20.00 and the pump is for up to 60 gallon tank.

The bucket is a 5 gallon one I picked up from Home Depot and the lid I had already set up for a blow off tube for a batch of Homebrew I made a few years ago. The tubing ran through it perfectly.

The nuts hold the long air stones on the bottom perfectly

Lid in place. I'm bubbling off the Chlorine and will pick up some ingredients later today

More to come later, hope everyone is having a great weekend :)

Just a quick pic of what I fixed for dinner tonight. Pork Loin chops marinated in a homemade Mojo topped with a grilled Pineapple Salsa featuring some of the Thai Short hots and some Serrannos that my neighbor gave me, with some rice and broccoli. This was the first time to fix this but it dang sure wont be the last. That salsa would be awesome on some fish too.

Yummy!

Man, it's been a while since I checked in.  So much going on in the RM world.  Awesome visit and gift exchange with Romy6!  Sounds like a great time.

That powder you made with the chiles and tomatoes -- that's like a powdered salsa!  Just don't add water!  Conceptually, it's brilliant!  I'm going to have to try to make something like that.  I bet it would make a great rub for the BBQ.

Regarding the worm castings and mycos, I found all that at a local hydro store.  They have everything!  I rarely ever go to HD or Lowe's anymore for gardening supplies.  Pretty much everything for growing chiles I get at the hydro store.  If you have a good hydro store relatively close, I recommend checking it out.  You will probably find everything you need.  You will probably even find things you need but didn't know you needed!  ;)

Glad to see your Thai shorts ripening for you.  Definitely a great feeling when your plants return the love.

That compost tea should be awesome.  I picked up the supplies, as well, but have yet to make any.  Perhaps next weekend.  One thought I had is that even though your pre-tea water is alkaline, I'm wondering if the organisms in the final product will make the tea a more proper slightly acidic pH.  With a few exceptions, most microorganisms make their environment slightly acidic.

Anyway, looking fantastic!  :)

Picked up a few things on my way home last night and got my brew on.

since I don't have a compost of my own I picked up this

Wanted to get some Bio-tone but they were out and were out of Tomato Tone so got this for a source of mycos

So, the bucket has been bubbling away for a good 24 hours in prep. I added 2 Tablespoons each of these to the water

I used an old Grain Bag to hold the ingrediesnts. Added

3 Cups Black Velvet
Old produce from fridge along with 3 or 4 egg shells
2 Cups of Organic Dirt

to the bag. Wish I could have found some Chicken Manure or had picked up a bag of Black Cow but when I saw they didn't have the Guano my ADD kicked in and I didn;t think of the other.

The bag going in

Took a look at it this morning and it was still bubbling away but no foam. the Fish Ferts could be holding it at bay though. Going to let this bubble away for another 48 hours and then use it up. Probably do the soil and a Folier spraying.

Have a great week everyone, thanks for stopping by

Great looking brewer setup you got.  It will definitely do the trick my friend.  I am a huge fan of the tea after guys like Rich turned me on to it.  It is almost as if I can watch them perk up and thank me.

Man, I've been watching people do it and finally gave in and read the AACT how to that's pinned on the Growing page. Looked really simple and I had some of the stuff I'd need so figured it's time to give it a shot.

Doc that powder turned out awesome! the powdered tomatoes in it gives it the little BAM to kick it over the top.

Yeah, I can't wait to see how they react to the tea.

OK, you got me going, I smoked some hots and tomatoes, now they're drying...

Use a Blender of Food processor for the initial grind and then get a cheap coffee grinder to finish the job with. My Ninja gets it pretty fine but not quite as fine as a Coffee Grinder would. Gotta pick me up one sometime.

NIce! A couple handfuls of fresh yard clipping would probably kick in the foam. You can also start a small compost heap with some of that compost you bought as a starter...then you'll know you got the good live stuff in there. Your plants will thank you for this!!!

i was planning to add some but my ADD was kicking in and I forgot. I'm planning to get a compost going after the move. Gotta save up some to get a closed system as most HOA's don't like the smell wafting over the golf course :)
