Lychee seedlings apparently need 8-12 years before they begin fruiting. That's quite the long-term project

I have tried to grow its cousin rambutan from seed, which is not difficult at all. But rambutan from seed is a long-term project as well. I somewhat gave up on the project when I found grafted trees locally for M$100-200 (U$5-10).

As the old saying goes:
Q:When is the best time to plant a tree to enjoy?
A:20 years ago.
Q:When is the next best time?
A:NOW
😉

Went on a little road trip this morning. And, just when I thought I was running out of new things to grow here............I found out there was a Macadamia orchard about an hour from me. They had just started harvesting this seasons nuts about a week ago so I bought a bag each of cracked and uncracked nuts. They don't get any fresher than this.

As long as I was there...........and they were selling air layered trees and also seedlings, I had to purchase them also! I got two of the air layered trees and 3 of the smaller seedlings.

And I just planted six seeds in 1 gallon pots, it may be interesting.

Bean update. Out of the whole package of 2014 Lima Bean seeds I planted, seven germinated.

The Kentucky Blue pole beans were the most prolific with nearly 100% germination. I'll have to feed and water these heavily.

The Seychelles pole beans had about a 50% germination but are now growing well with a couple of vines about 3 feet up the cage already.

Some of my Miracle Fruit plants. These things grow fairly slowly. Some of these are a year old or more.

The Kossak Kohlrabi are starting to bulb now.

I'll end this post with a pic of one of the Angel Trumpet trees. It's from the Nightshade family, do not eat the flowers.

When I was in Minnesnowta I had grown some castor bean plants near the garden as I had read that the smell from the roots would keep the moles and gophers away and also they are an ornamental plant with somewhat different colors available. I had a few plants that got some nutrient runoff from my pepper plants and I was impressed that they got seven to eight feet tall. Last spring I found some of the seeds I had saved from those plants so I planted some and a few even germinated! Anyway, once they got going here they took off like wild growing quite huge(in my opinion). The tallest is now over twenty feet tall with a HUGE trunk. I was amazed that they would grow this large.

The trunk compared to my forearm.

O damn what is it with this autumn seems that everyone is having pests issues late Summer into Autumn sorry to see that S and my late Sunflowers have been completely decimated in the same way, looks like war to me and I'm rethinking a few things for next year.

If I see them getting out of hand I'll get out the DustinMizer and give them a good dusting.

One less tomato plant, just when you think you got them all!

And like last year, the banana tree has been braced(pvc pipe & T-Rex tape) as the bananas are getting heavy. This years bunch is much larger than last years.
