Tarantula Porn (spider pics IGGY)

OK here's one that isn't for the ladies. This is a picture of a male tarantula's "junk". This is called a palpal emboli and is what he inserts into the female to transfer sperm. He has one on each of the pedipalps, the small legs in the very front.

The male will make a sperm web and deposit sperm on it. He'll then use the palpal emboli to suck up the sperm and load them. Then if she's in the mood he will try, try again.

Thought I would wake up this old thread with a new photo.

This is one of my favorite little ladies, Poecilotheria metallica, common name Gooty Sapphire tarantula and their home is around Gooty India.

These are her true colors, no photoshop no editing at all. Electric blue.

Patrick your picture taking skills are awesome. I cannot for the life of me get "true" colors with my camera's flash. Your metallica is a jewel.

As far as your male's "junk"....I'm thinking I musta been in a spider in a past life.....okay, I'll let the imaginations finish the rest of my sentence.

I'm not much of a spider person (they don't freak me out, I just don't roll that way) but that is a drop dead gorgeous critter.

They are rather pretty aren't they?

Here's another one of my favorites. This one isn't mine but I have two exactly like her.

How's that for unbelievable?

Great photos Pat! I sure do miss my little ones. Still playing with the idea of buying another one once we get back from deployment.

What's the word on the G. pulchra pairing?

Hey! Who let the squid out? Yo man what's up? Deployed again already? You have my sympathy.

My female G. pulchra is getting fat, not sure if she's gravid or if I feed her too good. She has been doing some trial excavating lately so I'm hoping. I'll be sure to post any news on that right here.

Keep your head down.

Yea, we're at it again! I think we are legitimately the most underway ship in the Navy right now. Unfortunate for my personal life, but it's great for getting qualified. Should have my SWO pin shortly after we get back home. I will have already had my board, I just have to attend a school for 3 weeks prior to getting pinned. Won't be able to go to that school until I get home. I'll also be putting on LTJG (O-2) in the not too distant future!

Good luck with the breeding, looking forward to seeing the update.

Promoted already? Has it been two years? Time just flies by anymore. I'll definitely post any future dealings with the G. pulchra Brian.

I did get lucky with my Psalmopoeus irminia female and she made a sac about seven weeks ago. I pulled it earlier this week. There was an issue with some stuck slings and I did lose a few but I was able to get over 100 good ones. Very happy as this is one of my favorite tarantulas.

Here's the egg sac right after I opened it.

You can see some eggs that didn't develop and the orangeish/yellowish debris is old skin as the babies grew and shed it.

Here is a photo by Scott Land of an adult female Psalmopoeus irminia female. Easy to see why I like them so much.
