as long as you pick them before they are getting soft no worries, I like the thick walls on the serrano cross it lets them get really red without getting soft. Everything looks great my friend.

Cheers

They do have a really nice color. Texture wise they remind me of goatsweed. Buddy at work really likes them and the powder I made from them.

I used a bunch in some pepper vinegar with a few other types. Really good stuff

Mine was really slow to take off, when I planted out it was just one little long branch. I questioned if maybe it was just a weed. It's branched out a bunch and probably 2' tall now and starting to get pods on it. Not even close to anything ripe though.
It is my first tine growing them. The plant itself look nothing like anything I have ever grown.

Ok. That is easy enough.

Not sure why I planted 6 MWs myself, at least 6 of those is far easier to pick than one MC aka...
I planted 3 and I they are all producing well.

Grant is evil...that is all.

Those Mystery Wine are beautiful!

I was behind and had to skim a lot so maybe I missed this but, are you planning to bring the fig indoors or let it go dormant?

I have two.  One is new this year(Lattarulla) and doing great.  The other(Italian Honey) is in it's second year with me.  I left it out last year until the first frost then stored it in the garage.  When the weather got really cold I had to bring it in to the basement,  It leafed out way to early and spent too much time there under my pepper grow lights.  It has struggled this season and I wonder if it will survive the winter.

One fig off the older plant last year was terrible tasting.  Although the stem was drooping it was not ripe or I waited too long to pick.  Either way a big disappointment although I was not expecting fruit that soon.

Those are some nice harvests.  Sadly due to incredibly hot/dry weather and some neglect on my part my plants have yet to set any pods.  All of their flowers just keep dropping right off.  The weather ha cooled off considerably and now everything is in the midst of a massive growth spurt.  Hopefully I can still harvest some pods by the time the frost comes around.

It is my first time growing them…I have a measly 2 figs so far.  This variety is supposed to be hardy.  I am not sure yet what I will do.  I have to figure it out…same with the lemon tree which  is not hardy.

Good to see you back.  Sorry to hear about the peppers.

Is yours a Hardy Chicago?  I have read of them being grown in ground in our climate.  Most, it seems, are planted in somewhat sheltered locations and die back to the ground then grow from the roots again in the spring.  So, if you're in ground up here there will be no breba crop.  Me, I'm not worried about a breba crop, I'm just worried about a crop!

If you look at all the inhospitable places figs manage to thrive you realize most are incredibly hardy until you choose to cultivate them at home and then not so much!

Best of luck.

Update on both fig and lime progress.  Have any limes matured yet that you can tell how well they flavor up on a small tree?  I have wondered how that affects the flavor, if at all.

I went back and looked at my order. This is what I am growing. It says it is hardy in zones 5-8. I am going to read up and see what is the best way to get it to stay alive. My wife wanted the lemon tree. It is a Meyer Lemon tree that had 2 lemons on it when we bought it. 1 turned yellow and we picked it. The latge one is still not ripened. There are a bunch of smaller fruits that will not have time to ripen.

I like to try different things and see what is feasible for future or continued growing.

I've been here and there, but I check in on the forum every once in while.  I've been working tons of overtime since its the busy season for my job.  By the time I get home reading catching up on what you guys post seems more like a chore than a treat.  Hopefully I can get back into a habit of surfing through all the awesome content here.  Pepper porn helps.  : P  I'm also in the midst of planning my east coast trip.
