I've been to the Yucatan and they have al pastor taco stands on almost every corner. Local joints not tourist traps. So they do eat tacos, but yes, of course, the cuisine is quite diverse. You can also get some Mayan food in the Yucatan.

What we call Mexican, what we call Chinese, what we call Italian, unless you go there you have no idea. Unless you research. ;)

JayTee to victory.

Luckily in NY we have more of the authentic type joints. Even Oaxacan taqerias.

"Some" or "not all" is key here, along with diversity. "Some" people in the U.S. eat at McDonalds, but "not all". Yes, there are taco stands in the Yucatan, but not all people from the Yucatan eat tacos. If I went somewhere and asked people to describe food from the states for me, and all they could come up with is burgers and hot dogs, they'd be missing a whole universe of food from here. At the same time, if someone asked me for a recipe for food from the states, and I knew their only picture of such food was burgers and hot dogs, I'd probably give them a burger recipe, at least to start with, as I'd know it was likely that was what they were looking for. Of course, I'd still ask if that was what they had in mind, to see if there was an opportunity to give them something else.

I got a better camera... I believe I shall be participating more this year. I'm excited for getting creative in the kitchen and eating some good food too

I know geeme, that's common sense though, not everyone eats everything. There's people who don't eat pasta in Italy. :)

I think though you get the gist of this challenge now. That's the whole idea. One popular item, and one unique, from the same region.

So go ahead with your tacos! But you better bring something unique for the combo. ;) This one's gonna be good.

Someone do puerco pibil!!!! Armadillo rocked it here.

Well, after a little JayT time on the interwebs I've got it down to 3 and leaning very hard ot one. May have to look a little more at the other 2 but as they say, "Para todo mal, mezcal, para todo bien, también"

No matter which way I look at it though, this ain't going to be a Corona TD :drunk:

Cheers Y'all!

wait, this isn't canned? what happened to the single thread about each month's throwdown announcement? this long thread is a bit confusing... to me anyway

You'll get the hang of it.
Some jackass won the canned one with Spam.
Sometimes I question the integrity of the voters!

how many people have 4 or more crowns? Any way to JayTee that?

sumbits...

D2S has 3. Hmmm,,,I thought there were more. Oh Well.

That would be be a cool search option. Or a list of throwdown down winners from most to least. Click on a person and it takes you to a screen with all there winning entries.

at some time there was a list, up to about a year ago.

All this research is making me angry !!!!!!

Every time I find 2 dishes, there is at least 1 critical ingredient I cannot find.

But we may have had some breakthroughs

Heh. Nothing is technically "critical", unless you're trying to exactly duplicate something. But then, it's not really your dish. Get creative, not angry. ;)

I JayTeed some stuff, figured out what I wanted to do but also came across a couple unique ingredients, but not enough to dissuade me from the course set. Had to go over the hill to Wally-World territory today, so I stopped at the Elmway taco wagon for a quick bite. On inspiration I asked the taco wagon proprietor if he knew XXX ingredient. Quick conversation with his daughter and he asked if I was selling or buying XXX ingredient. I replied "to purchase" ... low and behold....XXX ingredient was right there at the mercado next to the taco wagon! SWEET!

You think I don't know what you are talikng about with your XXX HA!

And they sell it at Queso's just down the block... FYI.
