The red dawn...

Saw that kind of 'thang in Abilene, TX when I was a kid. It was like that for 24 hours. The next day everything was covered an inch or two with reddish brown dust. I'll take that though over a volcanic eruption and the ash. Been through a couple of those too. Do not want.

You Aussies down there take care of yourselves.

that is very cool! Imagine a horror movie filmed entirely in that natural atmosphere. I'd pay to see that.

We get smog from pollution that makes the sun hazy and blocks stars...does that count??
 
I don't think so but the horror film thing might still work. It's still like the picture too only less red.
 
Cool pics. This is just more evidence of global warming. We are closer to the sun than ever and the dust particles illuminate. Pretty soon we will be so close we will see sparks. So the scientists say.

Yeah it's no longer dark red here, it's now more of a peach colour and the wind is blowing down trees, the dust is still as thick as it was this morning......I just went and moved my car so it was parked out in the open and not under all the trees in the car park here at work.......
 
Must make for some interesting mucous.
Orange and blood colored snot rockets.

And yeah, you Aussies have some really killer dust storms.

That is just wild..reminds me of big wildfires when I was younger.

The quakes recorded magnitudes of 3.0 and 2.6 about 20km south of Frankston.

Parts of the state also received heavy rainfalls yesterday, triggering flash flood warnings.

That was Melbourne in 1983, fortunately I wasn't yet living in Australia so I ducked that one. Seeing that picture makes me realize how much Melbourne has changed in 25 years.

I'm roughly 20kms from the epicentre of that one. I heard quite a loud rumble and then I could hear my roof shaking for about half a minute. At least it shut up the bastard yapping dog next door for a while. It's the third one I felt this year, although they're always very small.

Nice pics from NSW guys, if you didn't know what Aussie desert dust looks like you'd think they were taken with a red lens filter. I think the car washes will be raking in the dough tomorrow.
 
Here are some pictures from the front of my house.

I heard it was coming so i moved all the baby plants back inside to my grow box in the garage where they were safe and sound.

90 KM/hr wind all day wouldnt be nice to few sprouts.
