chinense Trinidad Scorpion

Here's my first ripe trinidad scorpian (next to a naga)...

scorp_naga.png

Not a great photo I know, the flash makes it look more orange-ish than it really is, and you can't really see the pimpled skin that well. The tail isn't really there on this one, but most of the newer pods on the same plant look almost identical to the first pic posted in this thread. Now to try them both, and see which one I like more... :hell:

Yeah it's a bit different... most of the other (newer) fruit on the plant look like the ones TriniHottie posted... there are still a few of this different shape though...

i remember reading an article where the naga was actually tested for heat and they grew the nagas alongside jolokias and red savinas in the same growing conditions and the savinas totally underperformed from their previous record so conceivably the nagas and jolokias might have been underperforming, but i can't find the article anymore so i'm just hoping i didn't dream it up... man, if only hplc testing was easy and cheap. but anyways, its all about the growing conditions.

The CARDI people are a secretive bunch, I've emailed them asking about their scorpion and they didnt give much info at all, they basically said go look in the local markets, then a few months later they put out their media release talking about their refined scorpion etc.

I dont think they let any and everybody see their pepper fields either.

Tell them you are on a special assignment from THP ;)

To throw out my two pennies and make an appearance from the shadows, the same seeds grown under different conditions can have drastic variances in heat levels. Heck, even my nagas, 16 plants in total, had a big variance in different pot sizes to different locations. Though they were all brutally hot, there was a noticeable difference. So you cant really get a true measure by one test. Now with low temperatures, the nagas I still have growing are damn hot, but not as hot as they were when grown during summer.

I want to see a picture of the CARDI Red Scotch Bonnet that was tested at 900,000 SHU ripe.

You're not thinking of the Saga Jolokia story are you, where they discussed CPI's controlled testing of the Bhut Jolokia, the orange hab, and the Red Savina, are you? This one:

Hey Lenny .... U suppose to "BIGUP" CARDI... lol... but I was planning on goin to the Sugar Cane pepper fields and taking a look and some pics too!! See what the Secret is about...hmm...

Ok so I just tried my first scorpion (the one in the pic). Cut a bit less than 1 cm off the end and ate it... HOLY FREAKING BAT SH&T... I'm onto my second icecube and it is BURNING, it's the hottest thing I've ever eaten, and I've eaten my nagas. The burn is insane, all over my tongue (it feels like it's moving around :S), and it's in my throat too. Starting to move to the top of my mouth... it's been a good 5 minutes, and it hasn't eased up at all. I respect the scorpion... owww...

Ok, it's died down a little bit now, just feels like I've taken a bit bite out of a hab now. The flavour was there, a little different to nagas and habs, but I didn't have much time to appreciate it so I can't really describe it. Not as strong a flavour as a hab or a naga though.

Ok, I should get back to cooking dinner... This will be fun :hell:
