WC 2010

Did you manage to watch the England game Toon? That was some bad luck not getting 3 points, you have my condolences. If it ends up an England/Australia match in round 2, who will you be cheering on????

Neither
I'm English born, Aust raised.
Don't support an A League side nor watch the games.
World Cup is always a case of 'interested, but not concerned', it's just a diversion to my beloved club Newcastle Utd.
Club before country!

And BTW it's FOOTBALL! Only the US call HANDEGG "Football" and Football "Soccer"... ;)

Same deal here Armadillo, ever watched an Aussie Rules game?

I've been a Victory member for the last 4 years, but then I'm used to supporting a team in a sub standard league :). A-League isn't perfect but it's the best we've got here. And being born in Scotland I'm also used to disappointment in international competitions so I'm just happy to see Australia make it to SA.

:woohoo: we won the first match

We played bad especially in the first half and needed a lucky own goal. With elia we played a little better.

is anyone else really annoyed with that constant "bee hive" horn sound? I'd rather hear the chants and cheers of the crowd which helps build the excitement and intensity.

Play 80 minutes.
Only score is an own-goal.
Annoying f'ing plastic horns labelled as culturally significant.

Yeah, I'm gonna keep NOT watching soccer.

This is my first year watching it- kinda like the nation vs nation aspect of it. Feels about the same as watching hockey to me. Will say those horns really kinda BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ what? they BZZZZZZZZZZZ hey! BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I have to say I'll take FIFA over basketball and I'll take the lowest division of soccer over baseball.

After you watch a few games you hardly notice the vuvuzelas anymore. It's not just the locals blowing them, a lot of visiting fans have them too.... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I'm a sucker for the underdog. What a brilliant way to finish the game for New Zealand. It may not have been a win but I'm sure the kiwis are over the moon on their first ever world cup point. Congrats.

Nothing outstanding so far, only thing is them bloody voodoo horns they are driving me nuts and to top things off FIFA have chickened out and are gonna do nothing even though there are complaints coming from all sides, broadcasters, fans and players.
They wouldn't be as bad if some actually attempted a bloody tunes rather than that gawd awful drone

After watching just a few games Dave, I have not noticed them until the announcers say something.

I had Portugal winning that game but it would have been really nice to see Ivory Coast pull it off, another tie. Damn.

The only way I can block out the noise of the 'hive' is turn the sound off!!!!!! It's much better to heard drums and chants and singing and the ooooohs and ahhhhhhs of the crowd but you can't hear any of that due to the bees

Aw crap!

The first chance I get to contribute to this thread, and the bloody Banana Banana bunch get well and truly thrashed by Diego Forlan and a few pals!

South Africa never had a hope and were even worse than Italy, which took some doing, I assure you...!

Interesting to read your comments about the vuvuzela. Most of us whites really hated them before the WC, but they have somehow become a uniting factor that has brought the blacks and whites a little closer, around a sport which is traditionally a blacks-only zone, in SA at least.

I do miss the traditional singing and chanting though, and would not go to a game sans ear plugs, which I sell, along with a range of vuvuzelas, at my gift shop. Hey, when life provides lemons...!

Pretty nice, though, to watch three games daily at sensible hours. You blokes must be really dedicated or own decent recording devices!
