Wild in Las Vegas 2014 (Hardening off and flowers!!)

So now it's time to make another attempt and hope for a better year.

I didn't want to make a glog this year... but I see many already started. That motivates me to make a glog.

2013 was a year for learning and making mistakes and mostly experiments. Needless to say I found and learned a lot and I know this year is gonna rock!

So let's get started with some pics, and I'll update with th list later today and I'll be visiting glogs in a short while ;) and here's to 2014!!!

Fruit from the Sonoran Chiltepin x 7 Pot Barrackpore F1 in 2013:

My mouth is watering :D. Those look very tasty I can't wait to try a pod from the F2.

Good news tho! I saw signs of buds today very small but they're definitely buds and it wants to fork out. It's still small but I say it would be nice to let it do it's thing. It's gonna get a pot up today

Great stuff going on here Walt!

I just love the hairy ladies pics, but not in real life...LOL

Thanks Scott! Yup it's going well so far, for some I doubt I'll get any pods before the heat, but that's where "Plan B" comes into play :D.

I know what you mean I love the hairy ladies too but not those ones that have arms and legs LOL.

This weekend I decided to do a lil bit more organizing since I felt like I was running out of space so I did this...

Time for some tea :D. This is at 4hrs.

This is what Mycos do to your roots.

I like hairy plants but I also like hairy roots :D.

And last but not least, the first wild to win the race!! Lanceolatum!!

 Hope you all have an excellent week! :fireball:

Great update you got there Walt. One of these days I'm going to have to make a LED light. The results speak for themselves. How is the light penetration for more mature plants?

Amazing progress! I think I be to add some mycos to my mix haha!

Love the pic of the Chilitepin x barrackpore! That is currently my strongest start! Looking forward to the harvest!

Love the led info... Maybe next year I'll have the resources to make it happen!

Thanks Jeff! About penetration I'm not sure. Seems good to me because most plants seem to branch out earlier and doesn't look like they're not receiving enough light. Let me dig up a few old pics so you can see ;).

Same here Adam! That cross is one of my strongest too.

As for the LEDs, I hear prices are dropping considerably. Should be cheaper to build by that time.

Smokemaster suggests 1W LED because of lower consumption and basically more lumens per watt. I'm trying that next. This light I was was supposed to be just an experiment and to test my ability. Now it's a light I can rely on. If you need help lmk, I'd be glad to help.

nice lance!!

Thanks Rob! Lmk when you want to meet so I can give you the seeds.

Purple light looks cool

Yes it does LOL :bong:

Looking good Walt!

My brother has LED's, enlighten me on them please ;)

Ok, well there's lots of controversy regarding LEDs efficiency over other sources of artificial lights. I will give my personal opinion about this and seems to make perfect sense IMHO.

We all know plants need light to perform photosynthesis to survive right?

All plants use light for photosynthesis, and some studies prove that plants only use a certain wavelengths from the light spectrum to stimulate photosynthesis.

Plants only use blue and red light and they have no use for the other colors or they're not very useful.

For the most part if you give a plant white light at say 20 watts part of the wattage is heat and the rest is light, but you're also giving the plants light they don't really need and can't use. What I think is that it's a waste off watts and not as effective as the same wattage in LED.

With LED you're giving the plants exactly what they need and not wasting watts on heat and unusable light.

The big difference I can't argue is availability and prices, but for LED if you can build your own then it can be a good advantage over CFLs. I can't really see myself spending $40 every year and a half to replace the bulbs on the T5HO. LEDs can last up to 5 years or 50,000 hours without worrying about replacing anything.

Hope I didn't a bore you with all the gibberish LOL.

Mild update...

Ok well not much is happening so I'm just update with something to keep the glog going.

Here's what's happening.

First off I'm having bad luck with the pubes... I have no idea what can be causing this but some have died from unknown reason.

Lemon drop is starting to pod up.

Some are looking like this and being put into bigger shoes.

Tepin x 7 pot is looking hot and showing buds already. Pinch or leave??

Here's another different looking Tepin X 7 pot... looks annum to me.

Here's something I'm excited to watch. The new kid :D. Sown on 1/27 and came out completely today 2/6 (fast!!)

I also have a Lanceolatum almost out of the seed shell and 2 more right behind it. Also more wilds germinating already.

Nice looking plants and closeup photog. That's a shame with the pubes, are the leaves drying up or are the seedlings bending and damping off ?

I'd leave the buds on the 7/Tepin cross...just out of curiosity to see how many clusters show up per node in the early branching.

Yeah, that sounds good to me... also, at this stage you might not want to risk damaging the new growth... you can always pluck them when they're more mature too...

Really cool how one looks like chinense and the other more like an annuum.

Got to be those annuum genes making them grow double time! Can't wait to seem their adult size.

Yeah LEDs make sense on paper, just lots like alot of assembly for be right now. Next year is another story though.

Thanks for the info on the LED's Walt.

I'm with Greg, my first impression is they're damping off. You can gently move the soil away from the stem and see if they are browning. Jason said a cap full of hydrogen peroxide will help, and can add a second. I had a Red Rocotto do that, and lost it, ticked me off it was the only one out of ten that germed.

Thanks Greg, I do have a suspicion... I posted a while back that I cooked the seeds and while I looked thru the pellets some where foul smelling. So I neglected the tray and when I decided to look at the tray some were germinating (even on those foul smelling ones I believe). They still grew but it's strange that a few died within a few days and I treat them all the same.

If these don't make it then it's a good opportunity to make an excuse and sow some more LOL ;).

Thanks for stopping by.

Ok, so they stay :D. If it throws nice pods I will do anything humanly possible to keep it alive! :fireball:

Thanks Adam, yup I believe they also call it "Hybrid Vigor" Lol.

The hardest part assembling the whole jazz was the soldering aside from that it's just to think like a gadget designer, and feel free to let your imagination run wild ;).

Thanks for the info on the LED's Walt.

Thanks Scott! That was my first thought but I hardly overwater and I check them twice a day if they need something ;).

I actually pulled it out of it's misery and it's weird that I saw roots at the bottom of the cup and nothing in the middle or close to the surface. I suspected gnats ate the roots but I don't have a single fungus gnat nor did I find any larvae in the inspection I did. So I come to a conclusion that it's root rot.

And here's a little surprise :D.

Behold the Lanceolatum!! And now to keep it alive

Have a great Friday and an awesome weekend!!

-Walt

What a great day!

Lanceolatum......niiiiiice

Great Lanceolatum! I'm sure it's gonna do great!

happy for the rest of your success.. hope your new BBGs do better.. and along with your wilds

Thanks everyone!

Sorry THP'ers I been quite busy and I been working 12hr night shifts. No bueno...

So plants are doing great and still growing.

CGN 19198 just started showing signs of buds, wow. I'm so excited for this one :D.

First all 4 C. Lanceolatum that germinated very well for me and not a single helmet on any of them.

(Sorry I played a lil bit too much with the photo editor...)

One of my favorite. Cumari pollux.

Another Cumari pollux. More pubescent, I have no idea why.

A couple I'm sooooo excited! (Ok all wilds make me excited LMAO :D )

CAP 500 - C. Eximium.

CAP 1530 - C. Cardenasii (C. Eximium actually)

This one is one of my strongest seedlings.

Tepin X 7 pot barrackpore F2.

My healthiest CAP 501. Very nice growth on this one. Looking forward to see it fruit ;).

I think I need a bump, and I'll get the rest up on my lunch break LOL. Time to go make some mula
