favorite Wild Varieties-What is your favorite

With the end of summer in the northern hemisphere relatively close I wonderf what are your plans on owervintering your wild and what are you experiences? Are you trying to clones? I know I can't resist trying to root branches left after trimming?

Are ther wild that do better than others during the winter? Which ones root easily?

I only recently started playing with wildes and have a chacoense and a praetermissimum thanks to Judy. The chaco is 2 years old, very easy to clone and OW, we'll see about the other one.

I will have to cut back and repot some as many of the plants are just to big, with the cuttings I can tripple the number of plants and not worry that I might have a plant that out crossed.   Also it will be far easier to grow clones than start from seeds.
I had lousy luck with my seedlings this year and lost a lot of super hots, my wilds did much better than the rest.
Next season I plan on just growing wilds and just grow any of the super hots that I over winter which won't be many,
that will give my clones more room and any more wilds I start from seeds.

Nice pics of Judy's Mystery John.     For a praetermissum it has more color and the pods are better than the pods of the praet. that I have already, which looks more like a cross than Judy's Praet. does. It also has more color than some of the other Praets that I have seen.

Absolutely love everyone's pics! The detail is amazing to a hack like me! Lol.
So i missed out on blue mystery seeds, however I now have seeds for CAP 215, CGN 19198, Cumari Pollux and seeds from my own tepin (unsure of variety). Looking forward to growing and trying new wilds next season! These are fast becoming favourite's of mine.
Quick question. I've noticed that the aji chuncho is listed on pepperlover's site as a wild. Is this correct? If so that's another I have growing.

Two of the very plants i wasnt able to germinate this season... My hats off to you John and Walter... Excellent job on both of those varieties...

Thanks James, I hope to have plenty of seeds to share after I get this plant loaded. I notice more pods every day and flower buds are developing pretty fast.

I sowed some blue mystery from your seeds too. The new ones, I took a dried pod and just cracked it and put them in a wet paper towel. They're going to grow in the Aerogarden ;)

Be careful, lol. Wilds are very addictive. Once you get them growing and notice the unique traits you won't even believe that's a pepper.

Oh and so far most I have tried are tasty, great taste and heat in a small package ;).

I've already noticed that with the tepin and CAP 215 I have now. Can only imagine what future seasons will be like as I gain more experience.

It depends on what you consider wild. There are only 9 or 10 actual undomesticated species that are in our gardening circles. Those are what I consider "wild". A lot of the stuff considered wild is cultivated and harvested in the region where it originates.

If a bird eats one of your aji chunchos and flies to Canada, then poops it out in a remote area, would the plant that grows be considered wild because it isn't indigenous to Canada? Maybe.

I have blue mystery seeds that I can send out at a later date. I will toss in the rocopica you had asked about previously also.

Great pics Walt, Tick and JB . maybe one day for me :)

Very healthy looking Cumari pollux. Prefers shade, full sun?

I have one plant in full son and this one in partial shade . All of my plants do better in partial shade during my brutal summers her in Florida . So the partial shade one  is twice as big and pumping out pods not stop  . But they do like sun just not Florida full summer  sun . Very hearty plant that requires very little attention . It is a stink bug attract-or but they don't seem to like the tiny pods ?  :shh:

Now my yellow Tepin does not mind the extreme heat at all . Growing not very tepin like IMHO .

Dont toss out the small lance seeds John, I will give em a try...

Hi John, close up the Rhomboideum pods look almost like a tiny wild tomato. I wasn't going to put it on my list but as it is concidered a Capsicum for now, I will grow it again its been several years since I grew it for the first time and wasn't impressed by it other than the unique yellow flowers and the red berries it put out. The more I read about it the more I discover how little is known about it, just the flavor of the berries or pods is different they are not sweet nor sour or bitter for that matter and they have no heat to them, the flavor reminded me a lot like a Goji or (Wolfberries ) in many ways although they don't have a oily tomato like flavor like the Goji has.  I think Nigel might be better to describe them than what little I can remember about the taste, my taste buds are gone anyways.   I like the close ups of the pods, you can tell that there is some flesh to them if you can call it that.

Walt those are some good pics also,  the Eximium is a unusual species, I have three plants now they will get overwintered, they will have quite a few friends setting on my stand this winter. I want to get 19198 to add to my collection.

@nightshade.... What kind of picture are you looking for? Trying to ID yours? I did not take a lot of photos of my rhombs this year because they got engulfed by other plants. The one in a container I gave away when I moved. I have to dig to find pics of young plants.

@portuge... I will have plenty of seed. Not trying to waste them, just trying to improve and spread good genes.
