Dammmnnn your having bad luck Candice, sorry to hear, what variety was it, is there any seeeds I can send you???

I know and it is only the beginning! They were Butch T under the lights, growing really well too. Will post a pic before I rip em. But I have watered the Chocolate Scorpions that you gave me and Morouga Scorpions with water from the same system as well as all the plants I was overwintering including a white 7 Pot, Viper and a few other superhots and all my ornamentals.
I should be right with seeds thanks Grant, you have already been so generous and I have some choc scorpions left from you. I have learnt from past mistakes never to sow every seed of one type you have in case of mishaps. Glad I didnt!

Cheers Nova ... its just a premix from bunnings Amgrow organic potting mix.

See it here

It already has Coir in it but it seems to get too compacted much when wet for my liking, I want something to create a little more aeration and bulk.

I don't know maybe I should just use it as is??? Coir seems like a cheap filler for my pots though.
I bought this about a month ago for the first time to pot up my seedlings from Jiffy pellets. Seems good so far but they are plants with the bacterial rot so will have to throw them out too. As Micca said I would actually use perlite to airate the mix. If you are using the soil for seeds probably best just to buy a good seedling mix instead. It will probably have more sand and bigger particles to loosen it up.

Nice looking plant happening there Gas

When I use Organic mixes for growing in containers I tend to find it does get too wet and doen't drain too well. So I add in some Perlite or Perlite/Vermiculite mix to add aeration and to help with drainage.
Works for me.

Micca

Hey Micca you can get 100L bags of Vermiculite or Perlite from the Agrishop in Forrestdale for about $26. Most hydro shops sell these for $45 a bag!

Thats cheap as!!! Might have to do that sometime.

Hey I have a tiny little rocoto Manzano Orange with your name on it if interested? I know you aren't too good with them so will let the little blighter grow up a bit before giving it to ya

Micca

Yeah pretty good deal hey.

Yeah if I can't get my other Rocotos up I will definately take you up on that offer thanks (as long as they are from isolated seed). Got those seeds the other day that you wanted some of, will give them to you next time I see you.

I seem to be getting updates, not too sure?

The seeds are from a seed company. Pretty sure they will be isolated seed, he's been good in the past.

hmm for some reason am not getting notifications anymore when people post on this topic even though i have it turned on. Anyone else having the same problem?

It's working fine for me but the same thing has happened in the past for me with a topic I wanted to follow. Think it's just a site glitch. It fixed itself after a while.

I have only used perlite in a mix before. I'm going to use vermiculite to aerate my potting soil for this season, they are going to all be in pots so I might have to go for that deal, sounds cheap!

How much Coir do you usually add to a mix??.

I have some all round certified organic potting mix but would love to use some coir to bulk it up a bit (Cheaper) and stop the need for constant watering and compaction in the containers.

Say I had 6 15 litre containers could I use 60 litres of Potting mix and 20-30 litres of coir or is that too much? I have never used coir before
I just use one of those 9L Brunnings Easy Wetta coir-peat brick to each 25L bag of Coles potting mix.

As others have suggested though, perlite is awesome too. I usually add both peat coir and perlite to my potting mix for final pot up in larger pots, but I find just Coles potting mix and coir to be perfect for small pots.

If your potting mix is super heavy, adding both coir and perlite might be an idea?

Cool thanks for the all the advice.
I am raising/germinating seedlings in Jiffy Pellets, this is is my potting on soil.
But I am definitely needing to add some perlite and/or coir for sure.

Happy Chilli Growing,
Micca

Ummm the cheese was the yellow kind  A cheapo vintage cheddar i think with a top sprinkling of parmasen.
I found that if you put the mash in the casserole dish first and bake it for about 10-15 min then scoop the goodness in (in this case i just added some peas, corn, carrot, caramelised onion and garlic and the mince mix)it's a lot firmer and holds together heaps better than if you just dump it on top of un baked mash.

Heres what it looked like on the inside. Alas there were no chilli ingrediants added BLASPHEMY!
